Not quite the same spec but that's what I just got a Viglen MPC-L for thanks to Alan Popes pointer to the Ubuntu podcast. 512Mb RAM, 80G hard drive, 400MHz Geode processor. As well as the bundled USB keyboard and mouse mine came with a 1GB USB Flash key in a separate box for some reason. Mine arrived last Thursday as it happens :) 512Mb RAM, 80G hard drive, 400MHz Geode processor. As well as the bundled USB keyboard and mouse mine came with a 1GB USB Flash key in a separate box for some reason. It's a nice box and the size/power/noise levels are all low enough that it is ideal as an always on light weight home server type device, but its processor is a little underpowered for (my) desktop needs. Which is why I was looking for something a little more powerful, while still being relatively small/low power. Another possible alternative is to just upgrade to a EEE 901 and plug my existing 701 into my KVM permanently... BTW Bob, have you looked carefully at the mouse that came with your MPC-L? If it is the same as the one I received you may want to throw it out before it contaminates anything :) Andy -- Please post to: Hampshire@mailman.lug.org.uk Web Interface: https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/hampshire LUG URL: http://www.hantslug.org.uk --

We've left it carefully sealed in it's plastic bag so far. Re: [Hampshire] Asus EEE BOX ?
Has anyone purchased or played with one of these: Asus EBXB202-BLK-X0024, Intel Atom, 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM 160GB HDD http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148886 Yes I know if comes with XP Home, but it seems like a reasonable spec for the price (even with the M$ tax) and it's a small footprint lowish power device. So does anybody have any experience of running Linux on one? Andy In theory it is simply an Intel atom motherboard, same basis as the EeePC and many other netbooks. This should mean it all just works fine. But I've got not actual experience of it working ;) -- Please post to: Hampshire@mailman.lug.org.uk Web Interface: https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/hampshire LUG URL: http://www.hantslug.org.uk --

So does anybody have any experience of running Linux on one? Given a very similar spec to the AsusEEE 901 I'd expect similar performance. ie. Very usable for general work, not intended for heavy gaming for development. Most linuxes should drop straight on to it. You might want to look at some of the Atom bundles that are about like[1] I've just built the above spec for 171 inc vat. Slightly chunkier case so there room to add DVD if you want, and no XP. Or [2] for 175 with a bigger disc.
