China. 9820.050+, Beibu Bay Radio, Nanning. 10:14 - 11:02. Been checking
this one for about a week; today the magnetic field was quieter, and I could
get a good logging. At 10:33:30, a break in the music, male anncr with "BBR,"
brief announcement by female, possibly in Vietnamese. Then M anncr again with
"FM 96.4, Beibu Bay Radio." At TOH, 5+1 time pips, similar ID routine, and
into Vietnamese. Weak at tune-in, but built to a pretty good level by 10:30.
Frequency drifted slowly upward through the period, from 9820.050 at tune-in to
9820.117 by TOH. Thanks to Barbour for noting this one. (Delibert Aug. 5)

Peru, 5486.70, La Reina De La Selva,(PRES) 1048-1100 The noise is terrible
this morning. But
with a very weak signal, I noted a program of music and a male in Spanish
comments here.
At my local area, we are fogged in, creating a lot of moisture on and around my
antennas.
I am wondering if this might be causing all of the local noise? Anyway, the
entire shortwave
spectrum from 4 MHz to 6 Mhz, sounds the same with hardly any signals. I have
compared
the signal between four different antennas with the same results. Selva still
remains audible
during the period, albeit very poor. (Chuck Bolland, January 23, 2008)

2004-01-03 Thread Bob Combs

This morning I logged a station on 7270 KHz between 1417 and 1508 UTC
Language unknown, likely Malaysian.
Program musical selections, with announcer talk in between songs. Female
ID (maybe).
Source: Probably RTV Sarawak
Problem: It did not sign off at 1500 per information on most lists I
have seen.
QRM: at 1503 a middle eastern/eastern horn type music station came up on
frequency with no ID and dominated the frequency.
Any help on this to verify RTV Sarawak was station?
Thanks.

2005-05-02 Thread WWildes256
Greetings, fellow listees:

A. I am new to the list, having returned to SWLing after a 20 year hiatus.
I don't usually spend any effort on domestic s/w broadcasters, concentrating
instead on (1) European, and (2) Latin American ones.

B. However, I heard a station yesterday afternoon that intrigued me.
I stumbled on it at 1810Z, 1 May 05, on 15385.
A man and a woman were reading in English from, ostensibly, Psalms 109 and
29.
It went like this:
The Man: "The Voice of Yahweh is strong."
Followed by: The Woman: "The Voice of Yahweh is strong."
The Man: "The Voice of Yahweh is powerful."
The Woman: "The Voice of Yahweh is powerful."
The Man: "The Voice of Yahweh is (...choose any word you want...)
Followed by The Woman: etc
And on and on like this for at least twenty minutes.
After five minutes, the thing was repeated.

I listened closely but did not hear an ID. The signal was weak but
intelligible.

At 1835 Z I clearly heard a female vocal "Ave Maria" that sounded like Karen
Carpenter (Oh how I miss that girl).

I had to run an errand at 1900, and got back at 1920, hearing a female duet
on a religious song in Spanish, and still hadn't hadn't heard an ID.

I am consciously trying to avoid "list logging". I knew that Daniel Sampson's
Primetime Shortwave shows KJES in English on that frequency, but still had no
firm information on the weak signal I heard.

Suddenly, at 1930, a very YL boomed out "Kah Jota Eh Esse", at least five
times louder and stronger than anything that preceded it.

C. Equipment: Kenwood R1000 and 80 foot long wire

D. Years ago 15170 was used by a station in Papeete, Tahiti. Programming was
in French and consisted of "island" music, and was always a delight to hear.
Does anyone know if they're still there?

Thanks.

Re: [HCDX] Logging

2006-11-16 Thread Noel R Green
Re this loggingtoday (Nov.15) I could hear the usual buzz
jamming on 6015 at 0800 that I assume is the DPRK jamming Liberty #1 from
the south of Korea. On the hour I heard Radio Pyongyang interval signal,
then their anthem and opening of programme. The jamming was too intense to
be 100% sure of the language, but tentatively I think it was Japanese in
parallel with 7580 (Spanish [Cuban?] lady reading numbers on here same time)
and 9650. Can anyone confirm the language service?

South Korea, 6015, Korean Broadcasting System, (pres) 1105-1140 Noted
comments by a man and woman. Between 1125 and 1130, a large production,
music selection was presented. It could have been the NA. At 1137, more

to improve slightly. (Chuck Bolland, November 14, 2006)

2005-05-02 Thread Guy Atkins
Hi Bill,

Your catch is KJES, Vado, New Mexico; I've heard them with this very sort of
programming before. They are a Catholic broadcaster.

RFO Tahiti has been off 15170v for some years now... perhaps 8 years? At
least it seems that long! I sorely miss their music; the only way I can
catch them now is via their 738 kHz MW frequency. Fortunately I live in an
area where they can be heard with regularity and good strength on coastal
DXpeditions. Most evenings I have a het from them on 738 here in Puyallup,
which is inland from the coast; I last heard audio out of them from my home
location in the Fall of 2004.

Tahiti had a 25mb frequency too, but it's been off even longer.

[HCDX] Logging, R. Quillabamba

2016-10-31 Thread Dave Valko
5024.93 PERU R. Quillabamba Found R. Rebeldes audio off again
(just OC) at 0950 and waited/hoped for R. Quillabamba to s/on which it
did at 0957:13 w/usual opening routine by alternating M and W in SP
including QTH, ID, calls and freqs, pgming format, etc. 0959 fanfare
and another ID anmnt by M, barnyard SFX starting w/Rooster crowing,
Horse, Dog, and even a Wolf howling, then live studio AM W DJ w/nice IDs
and freqs and website www.radioquillabamba.com over camposino mx. Into
campo mx at 1002. Canned ID jingle between songs. Then the audio of R.
Rebelde came on at 1005:10, however R. Quillabamba was giving it a run
for its money. Had to tune in LSB to avoid the het from Rebelde. A bit
of noise too, possibly from 5015. Would say conditions were poor. Had
it be good, I can’t imagine what Quillabamba would’ve sounded like!! A
video of the reception can be found at https://youtu.be/TPnks1hNxy4

Yes, KJES has a unique format! 15170 Tahiti is long gone, no other SW
frequencies either, but some manage to pull in their MW 738.

[HCDX] Logging for the Last Week

2012-09-01 Thread Dave Valko
UNID. 12085 UNID. CH stn here after V.O. Mongolia went off 1058. Canned
anmnts w/poss. ment of website or e-mail "...dot com". Off at 1100. 12080 QRM,
and what sounded like DRM started at 1059 as well. Hrd this once before. (31
August)

INDONESIA 9525.98 V.O. Indonesia (pres.) Back here at 1104 check. W tlk very
very weakly. Couldn't even tell what lang. (31 August)

UNID. 15518 Unid. pres. Clandestine Tlk by M in Asian lang. and remote rpt at
1228. Jammed by mx jammer on 15520. Both moved at 1230. This moved up to 15543
w/M continuing, mx bridge, then more tlk. Jammer showed up on 15545. Then found
it had moved to 15553 at 1252 w/mx jammer on 1. Lite Chinese-like mx at 1254
then diff. M at 1259. Mx and canned anmnt by M, 1300 prob. ID anmnt. Then found
it on 15562 w/more tlk at 1304. Mx jammer found it at 1308:23 on 15560. Found it
had moved again to 15567 at 1322. Changed freq again to 15603 at 1333, and jammer
followed to 15605. 15603 went off at 1400. Was not //15487. Wish I had the
Perseus recording this cat and mouse game. Who was this?? (31 August)

NIGER 9704.98 La Voix du Sahel 2220-2255 call-in pgm w/M host in FR and many
callers. Ments of Niamey and Africa. Koran 2255-2259, then closing ID anmnt by M
at 2259, flute IS, choral NA 2259-2301, brief tone, deadair, then signal off at
2302:05. Fairly strong but low modulation. At least it was in the clear. Hrd
while checking out the new Wellbrook ALA1530S+ antenna. (31 August)

BRAZIL 4754.87 Unid. ZY heard here the last couple days both in the AMs and
PMs. A lot of tlk. Rom. ZY song 0057. 0100 fanfare, M anncr 0101 and canned
anmnts. A little too weak and too noisy for ID. Hrd on Perseus with new Wellbrook
ALA1530S+ testing it out. (1 Sept.)

CANADA 6159.98 CKZU, Vancouver Found in the clear w/CKZN gone at 0836. But
it was there 15 minutes earlier. Hrd usual informative pgms w/CBC Radio One IDs.
CKZN came back on at 0843:24, so no chance for perfectly clear reception over ToH.
(1 Sept.)

COLOMBIA 5909.94 Alcaravan R. Usual pleasant Ranchera mx and canned IDs at
0853:55 and 0900:10. Very strong but w/UTE QRM above at times. (1 Sept.)

BRAZIL 4805 R. Dif. do Amazonas Really nasty airplane buzzing sound on their
xmsn today first noted around 0905. Looks like its caused by 4 'signals', 2 on
each side of the fundamental, each spaced apart by about 130 hz. First time to
notice this. (1 Sept.)

PERU 4747.08 R. Huanta Dos Mil 1013 end of song and anmnts by live studio M
anncr starting w/TC. No ID hrd, mx bridge at 1018, then canned anmnt w/ment of
internacional and Ramone ??, Santa Domingo, radio, Bolivia "muchas gracias", then
live M returned w/morning greeting and more tlk in SP and Aymara w/ments of
Bolivia, Santa Maria, pampa. Same canned annmnt at 1028 as hrd at 1018, 1030 pgm
outro, then into campo mx. Diff. M anncr at 1034. Fading pretty quickly after
1030. (1 Sept.)

UNID. 15527 UNID. pres. Clandestine Had the Perseus going this morning and
found it here coming on the air at 1159:40 with the jammer coming on 15530 at
1202:20. The stn was too weak to copy. Changed freq at 1212:50 to 15518, at
1230:22 on 15543, at 1236:17 on 15553, at 1303:15 on 15562, at 1317:30 on 15567,
and everytime the jammer followed. Stopped the recording before it had moved to
15603. So its using the same freqs in the same order, but changes at different
times. Not as good as yesterday. Who is it?? (1 Sept.)

PAKISTAN 15265 R. Pakistan Hrd at 1657 w/IS mixing w/VOA. Usual brief
prayers, nx fanfare, and W w/EG ID/intro for the nx. Nice to hear this on the
Perseus and ALA1530S+ antenna. Tried adding the ARR preamp but it just boosted the
noise along with the signals. Even though signals are weaker, it sounds better
w/out the preamp. (1 Sept.)

ISRAEL 15850 Galei Zahal Nice solid clear signal w/live concert at 1930. (1
Sept.)

[HCDX] Logging the Past Few Days

2008-10-12 Thread Dave Valko
10 October 2008: Was getting some audio on 7260 so decided to make a short
trip up to one of the nearby micro-DXpedition sites.

RX: Eton E1
ANT: 315' Beverage (BOG) at about 310°.
QTH: Paint Creek/Mountain Road
Duration: 1010-1130 UTC
Solar Indices: Didn't copy them.
WX: Clear starry sky. Temp low 40's F.

VANUATU?? 7260 R. Vanuatu (tent.) Tlk by M at 1010 start. Soft, almost
LA-sounding ballad at 1015. M anncr at 1017, brief mx bridge, then feature
w/M interviewing W in south Pacific-sounding lang. Studio M anncr returned
at 1029. Tlk by diff. M at 1030. Came back at 1035 and it appeared to be
gone, although there was a weaker signal there. Someone was here in
Vietnamese after 1100, maybe VOA Thailand?? (10 Oct.)

PAPUA NEW GUINEA?? 3290 R. Central?? Just a weak signal at 1020. Couldn't
get any audio. Was getting stronger later but still no audio. (10 Oct.)

EQUATORIAL GUINEA 6250 R. Nacional, Malabo (pres.) Long tlk by M in SP
from 1951-2000, then Afro Hi-life mx. Went off in mid-song at 2004:32*
unfortunately. (11 Oct.)

LIBERIA 6070 ELWA Sounded like an EG rel. pgm w/M host from 2050. Some
mx. Ment of Liberia at 2100 and possible addr during brief anmnt by M. Mx
bridge, then diff. M w/ID and more vcl mx. Into US rel. pgm w/M host and
rel. mx. Another locally produced pgm at 2133 w/W mentioning "From Liberia,
from.". Still going at 2214. Kind of weak w/some QRM. Thanks Brian
Alexander tip. (11 Oct.)

Had pretty decent Asian reception this morning. S.F. = 71, A Index = 25, K
Index = 4!!! There were G3 level Geomagnetic storms due to a coronal hole.
More importantly, the sunspot count is up to 16 with a group plainly
visible. Its odd that polar propagating Asians would be coming in so well
with the MUF at 4 and 5 mhz over/around the pole. (12 Oct.)

PAPUA NEW GUINEA 3290 R. Central?? The signal here has been hrd the last
2 days now. Wonder if it really is Central. (12 Oct.)

LAOS 6130 Lao Nat. R. 1050 nice soft lcl mx. Tlk by M in SE Asian lang.
Another more lively song at 1055. 1059-1102 several canned anmnts over ToH.
The first was a dialog between M and girl bracketed by mx. The others were
simple voice-over anmnts. Mx pgm continued with a lot of tlk by M. Getting
another stn underneath and almost at the same strength at 1150 check. Mx to
the ToH, usual Bells starting abt 20 seconds before the actual ToH, M anncr
briefly w/poss. ID but unfortunately another stn on an adjacent freq signed
on at this time blasting away. Instru. lcl mx bridge, poss. nx by M. Fair.
(12 Oct.)

INDIA 4895 AIR Kurseong (pres.) 1142 end of pleasant lcl male vocal song,
W and M anncrs briefly in Indian lang., then into more Arabic-sounding song
but the audio lvl of the song was much too low and never did come back up.
Decent strength. (12 Oct.)

CHINA 5050 Guangxi PBS 1159 soft Chinese instru. mx. Slow instru.
signature melody at ToH, IDs by 2 diff. W, then W w/pres. nx. Good signal
this morning but already fading at this time. Was noted as early as 1050.
(12 Oct.)

CHINA 6035 Yunnan PBS (pres.) Finally in the clear at 1201 after huge
signal on 6040 went off. Ttlk in Asian lang. by W. Sounded like CH. M
joined in shortly after. Mx at 1207. More tlk by M and W going towards the
BoH. There appeared to be another stn underneath. Dare I mention
Bhutan??!! (12 Oct.)

MALAYSIA 5964.95 Klasik Nasional (pres.) Just some pleasant MOR mx at
1151 check. (12 Oct.)

Besides the above, here is a rundown of 60 meters:

5040 AIR Jeypore Tlk in Indian lang. at 1143.
5010 AIR Thiruvananthapuram Same as above.
5005 R. Nepal(??) Decent carrier at 1144 but lcl noise was right on top.
4990 AIR Itanagar M tlk in Indian lang. at 1144.
4970 AIR Shillong?? Strong carrier and only poss. audio at 1144.
4940 AIR Guwahati Indian mx at 1145.
4920 Xizang PBS Strong at 1146.
4905 Xizang PBS //4920 at 1146.
4869.93 RRI Wamena Mx at 1146.
4835 AIR Gangtok?? Fairly weak carrier at 1147 but a signal here.
4810 AIR Bhopal?? Just a carrier here as well at 1147.
4795 UNID. A carrier here at 1147 but may be nothing.
4975 UNID. Carrier at 1148.
4760 AIR Pt. Blair?? Sounded like vcl mx at 1148.
4965 AIR Shimla?? Carrier at 1155.

Hi Dave,

Typical of V. of Tibet, via Tajikistan. See the Aoki list entries on all these
split, jammed frequencies, tho the exact ones and times may not match what you
heard.

[HCDX] Logging from 14 and 15 November 2008

2008-11-15 Thread Dave Valko
14 November 2008: Went up to the remote micro-DXpedition site to catch the
Asians fading out and the Euros fading in on 41m and below. In summary, it
appears the transition is around 1500-1600 here locally. The 49mb is
quietest (least amount of stations) at that point. Had 2 antennas up (see
below).

RX: JRC NRD-535D and Eton E1
ANT: 315' at 50° Beverage (BOG), and 394 ' at about 0° (1355-1600) changed
to 95° after 1600.

QTH: Pennsylvania State Game Lands #26
Duration: 1355-1920 UTC
Solar Indices: Solar Flux = 68, A Index = 1, K Index = 0. No storms.
WX: Foggy (100 yard visibility!!), warm, mid 50's.

MEXICO 6104.91 Candela FM (pres.) 1356 tlk by M in def. SP. Better on
50° than on the 0° BOG. Difficult audio at this time even w/AGC off. Mx
bridge at 1358, then W anncr, and weak carrier popped up on 6105. Could
definitely tell this was in SP but imposs. to copy an ID. Brief canned
anmnt at 1359. A little stronger on peak at 14009 w/alternating M and W and
then Rock mx bridge at 1401 followed by M anncr again. Still going past
1500!! Pretty slick professional pgming from what it sounded like. (14
Nov.)

Nothing on 90mb PNGs at 1352 using the 0° BOG. (14 Nov.)

No sign of 3815U Greenland either at 1400 or 1500. Only a Ham net on 3813.
(14 Nov.)

No sign of 9730.8 Myanmar on 0° BOG at 1354 check, but was getting near
readable audio at home prior to this micro-DXpedition. (14 Nov.)

CUBA 5025 R. Rebelde Playing "Thunder Island" at 1409. Stronger on 0°
BOG. This, a weak carrier on 5030, and extremely weak carrier on 4800 the
only 60mb signals coming in. Also CODAR!! (14 Nov.)

Did a check of 49mb from 1414-1425 comparing both 0° and 50° BOGs. In
summary, excluding the Canadians, was getting audio from a few obvious
Asians using the 0° BOG, but mainly just weak carriers using the 50° BOG.
Noticed Euros starting to fade in after 1630 (11:30 AM locally here). (14
Nov.)

BELGIUM 9970 RTB 1440 W interviewing M in FR. Much better on the 50°
than on the 0°. (14 Nov.)

USA 9264.95 WINB 1456 "Last Day Prophet" pgm, cut off at 1457, then NA
and ID w/freq change-over anmnt by M, and off at 1459*. Found on 13570 at
1502 but carrier distorted. (14 Nov.)

PALAU?? 9965 WHRI 1510 M w/rel. tlk in EG, sometimes quoting scriptures.
Finally instru. mx at 1528, then ID and South Bend IN addr at 1529.
1530-1559 nonstop instru. rel. mx. World Harvest R. ID at 1559. Weak and
slightly readable w/quick fading. Wasn't there before 1500. Was looking
for Palau. Don't see this listed or logged anywhere. (14 Nov.) (see
below)

UNID. 7520 UNID. Extremely weak carrier here at 1600+ on 95° BOG, but did
hear M anncr at 1616 on 50° BOG. Pakistan?? Farda (Thailand)?? (14 Nov.)

ZANZIBAR 11735 R. Tanzania Zanzibar On at 1640 w/Hi-life mx. (14 Nov.)

UAE 6180 FEBA 1720-1730* lively AR choral mx, M 1722 briefly, then more
mx sounding like Horn of Africa style. 1729 FEBA IS, then Pop-like instru.
mx and off. Weak. (14 Nov.)

UNID. 4800 UNID. 1726-1743, Decent signal here going off and on several
times. Sounded like someone testing. Must be something local (east coast
NA). (14 Nov.)

ALGERIA 6300 R. Arabe Saharaui Democratica Already on at 1753 w/faint AR
mx. Better on 95°. (14 Nov.)

EGYPT 9250 Radio Wadi el-Nil (pres.) Hrd pre-1755. Sounds
middle-eastern. Rumbling carrier like Egypt. (14 Nov.)

RUSSIA 6055 V.O. Russia Huge signal signing on at 1800 w/ID by W. Seems
way too strong to be coming from Europe at this time. S-6 strength. (14
Nov.)

NIGERIA 15120 V.O. Nigeria 1818 pgm on Right of Women. Still carrying
pgm at 1824 check. Nice ID w/1830 TC at 1830. Some adj. QRM. (14 Nov.)

ANTARCTICA?? 15476 R. Nac. Arcangel San Gabriel?? Getting a carrier here
at 1833. Sounded like M anncr at 1908 check but couldn't be 100% sure. (14
Nov.)

EGYPT 6289.81 R. Cairo Came on sometime between 1840-1845. Off freq too.
(14 Nov.)

UNID. 7215.07 UNID. M tlk in FR at 0537. Some actualities/sound-bites.
Apparent nx or press pgm. Was there at 0600 ToH but not at 0612. Getting a
lot of slop QRM from AR on 7210, I guess Fana. (15 Nov.)

USA 9495 WYFR 0559 IS theme song. Not very strong. Was hoping for
Abkhazia. (15 Nov.)

UNID. 5800 UNID. Something here w/huge S-9 +25 strength at 0619 w/AM
signal playing code. Only groups of 5 letters. No messages. Code practice
maybe??? Odd that its in AM mode. (15 Nov.)

VATICAN 7250 Vatican R. 0628 End of pgm w/web site URL, mx bridge, EG
ID, bells IS for a few seconds only, and off. Then came back on w/IS
continuing and ID in IT. Good. (15 Nov.)

PNG 3305 R. Western?? 1148 carrier here but couldn't detect any audio at
this time. Def. mx at 1207. Mx a little stronger at 1222 but nowhere near
enough to copy anything. Def. tlk by M at 1225. Mod. just much too weak.
(15 Nov.)
