I constantly get amazed at the amount of compute power
per dollar ratio.

It also excites me to think about the future and what
will come to pass.

Imagine...

16 core cpu's for 100 dollars :)

2006-06-10 Thread Greg Sevart
Sure, and AMD could do another price cut (though this seems likely to be the
pre-Conroe cut...).

Conroe will debut with very, very reasonable pricing. The 1.86 will be just
over $200, and the E6600, already looking to beat the $1000 FX-62, will be
only $316.

And, the dual core P-D 805 is only $124 right now. :)

I think one of the greatest things about Conroe is that it should force AMD
to reset its pricing structure to something more reasonable the X2
pricing is insane.

And on July 23rd, Intel drops the Pentium D 805 to $93.

Dual core for <$100...I think that's far more impressive.

CHIP FIRM AMD has kicked into price cuts today by slashing prices on 939
and AM2 sockets.

Distributor prices seen by the INQ show that the Athlon 64 3000 will cost
$89, the 3200 $99, the 3500 $109, and the 3800 $139. In the last case,
that's a 50 per cent drop.

(From The Inquirer).

Confirmed.

I get your point. I am just saying far more of the system builders on this list
sell more of the low end then high. I know that local shops probably sell 30
3200+ for each 1 of the X2 etc

Just as it is. The drop will also be reflected in the sempron line etc. While
people on the list tak the high end it is the low that sells. :)

[H] Heat - Value

2006-06-10 Thread GM
I need to replace my father's motherboard/cpu. He's 85 and does not play
games. Since I want to keep the costs down and use his DDR memory and APG
video I kind of like the ASUS P5P800SE. But I'm torn between the Intel D-805
or the D930. About $65 more for the 930. This is not a deal breaker but the
805 is probably good enough but I'm concerned about the heat. I've been
reading mixed reviews about 805 running hot (too hot?). No overcloclking
need be considered. Retail CPU. Thoughts?

Re: [H] Heat - Value

First of all, isn't a D 805 a bit too much overkill
for your father?

If you want something that will give the least amount
of problems, then I would suggest going for a Celeron
D and pair it with an intel original motherboard.

They make a bulletproof combo. No fuss, no headaches.

Plus the Celeron will be plenty fast for your dad.
Don't go for the higher speed ones, because they
generate more heat.

I also would assume that your dad, being old and all,
probably doesn't keep the temperature down too much at
home. So if it is warm and if the computer is in a
poorly ventilated area then you are in trouble, but if
you have a Celeron D 330 for example, then it barely
generates any heat.

Get the cheapest 9XX, there is no need for more mhz if this is not a game

Anybody here know of other 5 disc DVD changers that support DiVX. My only on

What about getting the Asrock-939Dual (~$70) and a cheap AMD 64 processor
(AMD price cuts soon). Much less heat than Intel, you can use AGP, upgrade
to PCI-E later and keep your DDR memory. I'm running the board right now and
it has been solid. If you get it, just make sure you follow directions and
install the AGP driver before you do anything else after windows install.
