Re: [H] Opinions Please

Sounds like a nice rig though I am not up on the newer
Dell models. Other than
to say you might want to get some of the upgrade
elsewhere I offer these thoughts:

Get a second battery, run them together and you wont
be deep-cycling one, they
will degrade (wear out in the lifetime sense, not
per charge) slower, and you
have longer run time if you need it.

Get a real SATA hard drive an IcyDock enclosure
rather than a pre-made
external. About $160 would net you 500GB 7200RPM,
USB+eSATA, tray swap capable
like the Barracuda IcyDock I put together.

Don't install the Roxio since Nero or a
shareware/freeware solution are better
products. For that matter even Cyberlink PDVD I find
not worth the hassle when
Media Player Classic (and I assume VLC) suits the bill
for free.

If you are serious about wireless, get a Cisco card as
the have more power
better range IMO. I find nothing but issues with
consumer grade cards signal
strength but have not used the new Intel stuff.

Beware if the Bluetooth stack is Widcomm you want to
use a headset. Broadcom
has decided in their infinite wisdom in stacks newer
than v5.0.x to make all
headsets use handsfree profile which is great for VoIP
(so they say) but ruins
the ability to headsets as wireless headphones for
non-streaming audio. In other
words, things like windows sound events get lost
because the headset is in
standby until a stream kicks in.

Most of all, have fun!

I don't know about there being a separate admin just
used for installing
windows, I suspect that is not the case given my
experience with Recovery Console.

If you are not using EFS to protect files, you may be
able to use one of the
boot CD's made to overwrite passwords reset the
admin password so you can get
in. NTPasswd comes to mind but I have not looked for
it in a few years.

What happens when you try pointing it to the other

have plenty of
chances to hit F3 to abort. Could it be that a
password was used
during the setup process that you forgot it ?

Turn it sideways and use an external KB mouse! ;)

I guess I'd have to agree with you somewhat since I
think even 4:3 sucks for
that reason. 3:4 or 9:16 would make more sense to me
but I've yet to see a
laptop with portrait mode pivot.

IMHO I'd get a bigger drive.

 Definitely get a bigger HD.

Only if you don't have to sacrifice spindle speed. I'd take a smaller 7.2k
drive over a larger 5.4k drive any day of the week. Secondary storage has an
absolutely huge impact on performance in mobiles, since it's frequently the
least comparable part relative to a desktop system.

I am pretty sure that it should work. Compare the connector here:

Are you saying that my 6yr old D series Replicator that I got with my
Dell Latitude L400 should work with any D series laptops? Of course
this is NOT what the CSR told me last night. I do know that the newer
replicators have more ports not that I need them all anyway.

You are right on the money with large documents! I tried 3 before getting one that worked 100%. The Belkin 2-Port USB print server is golden. Hi,

I’m after a convertor to convert my USB/Firewire Epson R1800 into a network printer. I see a lot of choices but some reviews mention that they corrupt large documents due to lack of memory which worries me as I will be printing large pictures regularly. Does anyone know of a good review site that does some side by side comparisons? Or does anyone have any first hand experience of these?

Also if there is a good one that will also convert a USB hard drive into NAS that would be a nice bonus J
