Most new bios let you adjust the wait time for the drive to respond. Try increasing the time until it detects correctly each time. I had a SSD that used to do that and that's how I fixed it. Duncan, It seems like one of the main features of this mouse is to move it around between machines and workspaces. For all but home use, I'd lose that sucker. Frankly, I can't see my funding this device, but others may see the benefits. I've almost gotten rid of wireless mice anyway (except on laptop).
