Re: [H] Do I have really bad luck? PSU?
LOL OK. Ugot me! Yes, I accept that "Know" is relative in this sandbox. I was just observing that most of the psu comments are relative to price. I accept that all of us are not floating in bucks. But, with a psu, I'd rather spend a bit bigger to get the quality and performance I expect. Picky me! Best, Duncan At 00:07 05/20/2008 -0700, you wrote: LOL! Some people like to keep current? CWT as a ODM is supposed to be good. Issues stem from capacitor choices and what the OEM is looking for price point wise. Re: [H] Do I have really bad luck? PSU?
Antec has had major issues because they use crap caps. They supposedly have fixed the issue but I will not buy another from them. HardOCP has a great power supply forum where people are discussing who actually makes what & with what components. http://www.hardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=93 James Boswell wrote: > I've had horrific luck with Antec power supplies over the last couple of > years, these days I'm preferring Enermax or Corsair units, both of which > I've had zero problems with. > > > On 17 May 2008, at 00:16, Scott Sipe wrote: > >> What brand PSUs are people liking today?

I've had quite a few burned up Antecs as well. I've since learned that most of the models I've had burn up were built by CWT. They now use SeaSonic for most models. I don't know if the Antec-branded SeaSonic-build models are as good as a branded SeaSonic, but I'd feel at least a little better about them today. My preference is generally PCP&C / SeaSonic (Some PCP&C units, like the Silencer series, are built by SeaSonic; others by Win-Tact), then SeaSonic-built supplies (Like the Corsair HX series, 620w and below), then FSP/SPI/Sparkle. There are some brands that are fairly exotic that are superior...but the availability of those above is generally far better. BTW, the newest Corsair HX units (over 620 watts) and the VX series are built by...yep, CWT. Supposedly new CWT units are solid...but I'm playing wait-and-see. Re: [H] Do I have really bad luck? PSU?
No, they don't use any appreciable difference in electricity at a given load level for a 450W unit vs a 750W unit. You will have some minor variance as efficiency changes throughout the output range, but it should be within a few percent. Most modern supplies can do around 80% throughout the entire range though. > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:hardware- > [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Scott Sipe > Sent: Friday, May 16, 2008 9:26 PM > To: hardware@hardwaregroup.com > Subject: Re: [H] Do I have really bad luck? I've had horrific luck with Antec power supplies over the last couple of years, these days I'm preferring Enermax or Corsair units, both of which I've had zero problems with. One thing I've never been sure of--do the power supplies with higher wattage automatically use more electricity? ie, at the same load level, how much electricity is a 450W going to use versus a 750W? I'm happy with a OCZ 700 and a cooler master 850 pro. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Scott Sipe Sent: Friday, May 16, 2008 6:17 PM To: hardware@hardwaregroup.com Subject: Re: [H] Do I have really bad luck? What brand PSUs are people liking today? For a single GPU, 2 HDD rig? The first computer--that had dead HDD and video card--is in an Antec sonata case with whatever psu came with it.
