Incidentally, if you are looking for an Aspire Revo and don't want to
wait (like I didn't), Best Buy has them, only they don't know what
they've got. The price here was $199.99. I just went in to see if I
could find a netbook or other with an Nvidia Ion Chipset. The 'Geek
Squad' guy was clueless. He said they don't carry Aspire Revo's and
there was one sitting right next to the register.

Bino,

You must have missed this link:

http://lifehacker.com/5391308/build-a-silent-standalone-xbmc-media-center-on-the-cheap

In short, you have a tiny noiseless PC that has HDMI out and can run at
least 720p and most of the time 1080p because of the ION chip.

With vdapau you can get full accelleration via the nvidia chipset.

I picked one up at newegg. Used it for a side room. Connects
straight to whs, and does 720p with no issues at all.

In short, you have a tiny noiseless PC that has HDMI out and can
run at
least 720p and most of the time 1080p because of the ION chip.

Ok , I want to make one of these... thats really, pretty kewl. Anyone
bought one? Where at? Any other info not found on the site to share?

*laugh* most likely true. But 'works better' to mean in part less coaching of
my 66 year old mom, who can easily work the media center interface from a
remote. I don't know if I have the stamina or time to coax her through any
linux or without a simple remote

I think Linux would work better. Lifehacker has an article about that.

With vdapau you can get full accelleration via the nvidia chipset.

But you shouldn't have to deal with that - you install XBMC Live, which
boots linux and into XBMC directly. Then you can just use the remote.

The only issue with Linux is if something goes wrong.

I've got the revo sitting here but haven't set it up yet. I plan on
using XBMC which will be a learning experience for me. Then I'll try to
get it to run with a hauppauge remote. It's much more fun to cobble
things together;-)
