Mark, While I am a Pioneer Elite fan, I am still intrigued by the DLP technology. Perhaps because I have used an PRG for all these years. I do plan to fully investigate this B4 I break the piggy bank. Thanks. Duncan At 21:02 08/29/2008 -0500, you wrote: I know a lot of people like Plasma, I prefer DLP, much better picture. Is there really a meaningful difference between the PRO-141FD and the PRO-151FD other than the $500 difference? Read the specs. The 141 weighs ~2lbs more. Duh? Not sure personally since I can't afford an Elite, but did find this..: Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-1FD series Simultaneous with the release of the basic Kuro panels, Pioneer will ship its two Elite models, again in both 50- and 60-inch versions. The main differences between non-Elite and Elite panels have to do with picture calibration options--according to the company, all of the lines share the same black-level performance. On these Elite models, however, professional calibrators and other knowledgeable adjusters can access color temperature and other controls from the user menu, making it easier to dial in the best picture. Whether that's worth an extra $1,000 or $1,500 depends on your point of view. Models (suggested retail prices) Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-111FD ($5,000) Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-151FD ($6,500) Step-up features of the Elite Kuro PRO-1FD series User-menu calibration controls Pioneer Elite Kuro Signature Series Monitor PRO-1FD series New for 2008 Pioneer is adding an even more expensive pair of models to the Kuro lineup, a sort of Elite Elite dubbed the Signature Series Monitors. Your extra cash--just how much extra is TBD--over the standard Elite models loses you a tuner but nets you an even thinner chassis (2.5 inches, still a far cry from the model demoed at CES) and even more custom-installer-friendly calibration options, including the ability to somehow calibrate the TV remotely (that's right--without being able to see the picture). The 50- and 60-inch Sig Series TVs will ship in October and August, respectively (for some reason, the 50 comes out later than the 60). Best, Duncan I have come really close to buying the 60 inch Elite in the last two years, but what has stopped me was the fear of burn in particularly since most TV is not HD, or widescreen and they all seem to have that floating logo thing all the time. I understand, the black side bars on SD, and the logos the broadcasters put in the corner, can cause burn in. What is your real world experience with the Elite, and how long have you had yours? How big is it? m At 21:33 08/25/2008 -0700, you wrote: At 05:08 PM 8/25/2008, you wrote: Viera's are good, but Pioneer Elite Kuro's are arguably the best plasmas to be had, but then again, they do cost 4-5-6 grand. :) They are the best, the new PRO-151FD 60 price actually came down a grand to 6500 but it is a fantastic display. Re: [H] Just Wondering?
So, Bro's choice is a Viera? I have not kept up with trade names. I Am a Pioneer Elite sorta person. Only because I OWN one now. Not, because I can drop 6Large on my LAST TV. But,. :) I'm open to opinion...I'm no dead yet. My current choice has trouble. I can spend ~$500 to try and baseline it again. If not, it is toast and I look for a replacement Yes, Pioneer is my first source. Happy to know that they kept the drive strong all of these years. TNX for the link. I did misplace it. I will go and dredge it for all it is worth. I no longer need the best. But, I refuse to believe I can not have the best. Whatever the best might be. Thanks John. I also really like anything Samsung. One day, I might even own something with that brand name... :) Best, Duncan At 17:08 08/25/2008 -0700, you wrote: Viera's are good, but Pioneer Elite Kuro's are arguably the best plasmas to be had, but then again, they do cost 4-5-6 grand. :) I spent weeks reading on the AVS forum, http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/index.php .
