Re: [H] Realtek on-board NIC question

NEVER take a driver update from Microsoft unless it's to update M$ hardware,
period.

newer is based on WHQL not the actual version or date of the driver and I have been
burned more than once trust even basic driver's updates from M$.

For the past 6-8 months, MS WinUpdate suggests that I STILL need to
update my driver for:

Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) PCI-E Gigbit Ethernet NIC

OK. Fine
I have updated my NIC driver each month, as best I can, from the Realtek
website. It appears that I still do NOT have a MS compatible NIC driver.
I give up!

I've been so burned in the past using MS suggested drivers from the
Custom Update view. I usually just blow it off. But, this Update bitch
is now 8 months old!

Does MS just not care for Realtek? I can solve this by just plugging in
Intel GBit NIC cards. I just do not want too ATM,(unless I have to,
just to make MS happy again.)

Is there a battle between MS and Realtek? Confused I am.

Duncan

Rick,
Thanks. Like you, I am 'once burnt, twice shy!'

I may still have to upgrade from the on-board Realtek NIC to a plug-in
Intel NIC sometime in the future. I find the Realtek website is getting
really confusing lately. So many OS choices! But, as the LAN continues
to work fine.

I will continue to just ignore M$.

Duncan

I think it is too much for MS to keep track of properly,
OR things are detected/IDed wrong sometimes, apparently...
OR they send the wrong driver because it gets stored or linked
wrong on the server.

I've used MS update provided video drivers and been hosed in the
past...
I take their advise into consideration, but mostly ingore their hardware
updates
and go to the manufacture..

Thank you for the share. Yes, I do know I can hide it.
I'd like to find out WHY it keeps popping up month after month.

Ditto here, used MS update video drivers for my nVidia card once, never again.
:(

Seems so, I was getting it in Vista too. I finally just chose to hide it.

I do have a fix (new hard cards!), if necessary. And, I do know that
this (my) fix works (tested/confirmed 8 yrs ago)!
Odd because MS seems to accept my still running older 2 Marvell on-board
NICS!

Confused I remain... :)
Please forgive my curiosity. I'd like to know.
