Re: [H] PC running at 100% CPU?
This sounds very promising and exactly like my problem-great find Josh...now to just figure out how to get the cmd to run... 😝 Ok just did it and wow, yup! The 100% CPU immediately went down and the fans have spun down and HALLELUJAH!!! Sweet, SWEET silence! It is *exactly* like how he describes in his blog... https://www.andrewmunsell.com/blog/oculus-rift-bug-power-plan-configuration/ ...down to the graphs in TM and it being pegged flat at 100%, and then dropping down as soon as the powercfg cmds were run! Pretty amazing to find a fix for a problem that fits and works so well! And from back in 2016 too, no less! The weird thing though is that I can't think of what it was that installed that would modify my power settings to do this (unlike in his case)...guess I just have to see if it happens again but at least I know how to deal with it now! Thanks again so much Josh! Sweet, sweet, blessed silence!! 😊 BINO -Original Message- From: Hardware [mailto:hardware-boun...@lists.hardwaregroup.com] On Behalf Of Joshua MacCraw Sent: Sunday, January 28, 2018 4:31 PM To: hardw...@lists.hardwaregroup.com Subject: Re: [H] PC running at 100% CPU? The main reason I care (well other than something unknown grabbing all my CPU which is concerning) is that the fan kicks in at this CPU load and it makes the normally deathly silent laptop a little loud... And no AV or Malwarebytes Lopaka...and those should let the CPU go once they're done running anyway, right? Definitely strange...I've been pretty sick the last two weeks so mustering the motivation to do a deep dive into what's going on is beyond me right now...was hoping for an easy fix...*sigh* Any other ideas? -Original Message- From: Hardware [mailto:hardware-boun...@lists.hardwaregroup.com] On Behalf Of Joshua MacCraw Sent: Saturday, January 27, 2018 11:24 AM To: hardw...@lists.hardwaregroup.com Subject: Re: [H] PC running at 100% CPU? +1 on SysInternals tools FTW On Jan 26, 2018 11:11 AM, "Christopher Fisk" wrote: > Check out process explorer > https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs > .microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fsysinternals%2Fdownloads%2Fprocess-explorer&d > ata=02%7C01%7C%7Ca55a9a4b7dd8491362aa08d565bb95b8%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb4 > 35%7C1%7C0%7C636526778697098352&sdata=l7Uru0UHA%2BDNxAb5Cc > 0vyukiWq3RYjpbbT4lY6eCJF0%3D&reserved=0 > to > try to track down the culprit. > > On Fri, Jan 26, 2018 at 1:54 PM, lopaka polena wrote: > > > You running any AV or malwarebytes on it? Re: [H] PC running at 100% CPU?
Check out process explorer https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer to try to track down the culprit. Re: [H] PC running at 100% CPU?
You running any AV or malwarebytes on it? I've seen those grab CPU resources but only for a couple minutes after boot then usually tapers off. lopaka On Fri, Jan 26, 2018 at 10:42 AM, Bino Gopal wrote: > Hey guys, my fancy new MSI laptop (I fixed the random freeze/lockup issue > btw, once I replaced the cracked USB/audio board back in Nov!!) is doing > this weird thing where it goes to 100% CPU shortly after boot and stays > pegged at 100%. > > It does this even when totally disconnected from any network and I did > check Task Manager and Resource Monitor (for more detail) but I couldn't > really find any running process that was grabbing the CPU and I did try > shutting down anything that looked suspicious... > > Anyone seen this before (Win10 Pro v1709 OS 16299.192 64-bit) and any > ideas...? >
