[ha-Safran]: Electronic Children's book-- My Own Pesah Story
Finally it is done. I revised my 1981 children's book, My Own Pesah Story, and turned it into an electronic book. Illustrations by Micha Klugman are included. Moses comes alive for the characters to tell the story of Passover. ;-) Yes I know it is not the right season. More stories will follow. My doctoral dissertation on Hebrew names in library catalogs is also available for downloading. Many chapters are applicable to Judaica libraries. [ha-Safran]: Class novel
Our Principal is keen for us to study a Jewish novel at high school level. We have been doing Counterfeit Lives, a holocaust novel, at Year 9 level, next year we plan to do a unit on the Holocaust and film using some current and older fiilms. At Year 12 level we have studied Eli Wiesel's Night, so would like to get away from the Holocaust theme. It needs to be a novel that has literary merit and good characterisation and would be able to be taught by a non Jewish teacher. He suggested Lazerson's Skullcaps and Switchblades which I need to reread. We are a Chabad boys school, so would need to be appropriate for our students needs. [ha-Safran]: Weine Correction
A day school librarian asked me today why Weine classified Mishnah as 323.1. This is obviously wrong so we checked. Mishnah is indeed given a 323.1 number in the Weine Relative Index, 3rd Ed. So change that number to 232.1 and check your shelves in case you made the same mistake my colleague made. Linda R. Silver, Librarian Jewish Education Center of Cleveland 2030 S. Taylor Rd. [ha-Safran]: Barcodes on old books?
What are the criteria to use in determining whether or not to place bacode stickers on very old books? Is there a monetary value (of a book) beyond which one should not apply any labels, such as barcodes, when automating a collection? Thank you in advance Andrea ___ Do you Yahoo!?
