"Yalkut Moreshet" – English Edition

The editorial staff of "Yalkut Moreshet" ("The Heritage Anthology") is
proud to announce the publication of an English edition of our journal on
Holocaust Documentation and Research.

Yalkut Moreshet is the longest running journal of Holocaust studies in
the world, appearing now for more than 40 years. Many of the articles that
have been printed in Yalkut Moreshet have become standard components in the
bibliographies of Holocaust courses in all Israeli universities. Historians
and students draw on the articles appearing in Yalkut Moreshet in their
research, and references to the articles appear in the footnotes of
numerous works of research.

Yalkut Moreshet prints research articles, source material, testimonies
and reviews. Throughout the years leading Holocaust historians, such as
Yisrael Gutman, Yehuda Bauer, Dina Porat, Dan Michman, David Bankier, Dalia
Ofer and many others have been regular contributors to the journal.
Historians from around the world, in growing numbers, also contribute
articles to the publication.

Each issue of the English Edition of Yalkut Moreshet contains articles
from the current copies of the journal, as well as a number of articles
from past journals which have become "classic" items in the field of
Holocaust studies. The English Edition will be published on annual basis.
The first issue appeared in the winter of 2003 and we have received very
warm responses from subscribers. The second issue has just been published.

This journal is a must in every university, public and Jewish library,
and can appeal to the general public who show an interest in the topic. I
am sure that you will find it to be in great demand by your readers.

What historians have to say about Yalkut Moreshet:
"Yalkut Moreshet" was established by a group of people, among them, leading
activists in the underground and experts in the field of Holocaust research.

The journal has left a significant imprint on widening knowledge of the
Holocaust both for students and for a broad audience of interested people.

Publishing Yalkut Moreshet in English can serve the important objective of
placing the material at the disposal of people in different countries."

Professor Yisrael Gutman, Former Chief Historian at Yad Vashem:

"Yalkut Moreshet" is one of the first two periodicals dedicating itself
entirely to Holocaust studies in the broadest sense. As such, it published
a wide spectrum of studies, detailed investigations, broad overviews,
philosophical treatises, testimonies and book reviews - some of them by now
world-renowned scholars. It has become a cornerstone of Israeli Holocaust
research."

Professor Dan Michman, Bar Ilan University and Chief Historian at Yad Vashem

[ha-Safran]: Hebrew question

2005-01-26 Thread Talya Pardo
Thanks again to everyone who contributed their answers.

For those of you interested in the finalists, I decided to use simply
Hashalah for Circulation and Yaatz for the Reference area. Simple, fewer
words for the kids to stumble on, and those two were the most consistent
among the answers I received.

Thanks to everyone,

[ha-Safran]: Hebrew script on RLIN

2005-01-26 Thread Heidi G. Lerner
Dear Safranim,
I would like to know which libraries are currently contributing Hebraica
records (Hebrew and other Jewish languages written in Hebrew characters)
into RLIN (either cataloging directly into RLIN or uploading from a local
system) utilizing the RLIN Hebrew script capability. It does not matter
whether catalogers are using RLIN Terminal for Windows or the new RLIN21
client.
If your institution is contributing Hebrew-script records to RLIN, could
you please contact me privately, one response per institution. I would also
like to have the name or contact information for the principal or head
cataloger of your institution's Hebraica cataloging team.
Please excuse duplication to other lists to which this query may be
cross-posted.

Thank you in advance for your prompt response.

2005-01-26 Thread Marcie Eskin
Dear Safranim:

We are looking for a video or DVD about the Bedouin. Does anyone know if
one exists or if Bedouin tribes/culture may be highlighted in a video/DVD
on another topic? Thanks.

[ha-Safran]: Jewish women comediennes research

2005-01-26 Thread Rebecca Hankins
Dear AJL:

It was suggested to me that I contact you regarding a researcher's
request regarding the above subject. I let her know that Sophie
Tucker's papers are at the American Jewish Archives, but any additional
information would be helpful.

Below is her request:

I am putting together a grant proposal, and I am writing to see if you
could kindly help me locate information (broadcast, archival,
periodicals)
on the following Jewish women comediennes: Belle Barth, Pearl
Williams,
Patsy Abbott, Totie Fields and (maybe Sophie Tucker--she is better
documented than the other women I'm working on). I have located
recordings
and a few books with references to some of these comics--Nachman,
Segarve
and others, but I'm wondering if perhaps there are special collections
that
I can mine for more information.

I'm afraid I haven't had much luck locating databases or archival
sources. I just called the Museum of Television and Broadcasting in
NY
today, so we'll see what happens with that. Bowling Green State
University
has some of the old recordings of Belle Barth and Pearl Williams. As
for
Abbott, I have come across some material which is in
Philadelphia--Freedman's collection (I would have to check on that)
which
has some of her doing her material in Yiddish.

Thank you

Rebecca
