[ha-Safran]: Re: Need recommendations on Jewish book for third grade

2005-07-28 Thread Barbara Karp
I have two suggestions. They are coincidentally written by the same
author. Following each title is the publisher's blurb.

Wieder, Joy Nelkin. The Secret Tunnel. Hachai Publishing (c2005).

During the time of King Chizkiyahu, dark days lay ahead for Yonatan and the
Jews of Yerushalayim. The wicked King of Ashur, Sancheriv, was about to
surround the city. The enemy could easily win by simply blocking off the
water supply of the Jews. As the danger grew closer, Yonatan resolved to
help protect his family, his city and his people.

Wieder, Joy Nelkin. The Great Potato Plan. Hachai Pubishing (c1999).

Simcha thought that he, Mama and the little ones would soon be on their way
to join Papa in America. But when a terrible war breaks out in Europe they
are unable to leave Warsaw. Simcha knows Papa expects him to keep the
family safe while they are apart. Can Simcha come up with a plan to save
his family from starvation and from attacks by Russian soldiers?

[ha-Safran]: Synagogue archiving

2005-07-28 Thread Enid Sperber
Dear Colleagues,
i second Anne Molloy's posting about the Synagogue archiving conference at
HUC in Cincinnati. It is such a good conference that I have made the
travel commitment (and expense) to go. This will be my third visit and I
too highly recommend the experience.

[ha-Safran]: Biblical Archaeological Review run to give away

2005-07-28 Thread Henry Hollander, Bookseller
A customer would like to donate to a library a complete run of Biblical
Archaeological Review from 1977 to the most recent issue for the cost of
shipping. This is three boxes and would probably cost about $40.00 to ship
via media mail. If anyone is interested, please contact me so that I can
make the Shiddich for you.

Best Regards,
Henry Hollander

[ha-Safran]: Circulating music CD's

2005-07-28 Thread Isabel Pinson
Thank you all so very much for your information on your system of
circulating CD's and song information. It has helped us at the Center for
Jewish Education in Baltimore greatly. Many of you asked me to share the
results.

1. Most keep the CD case on the shelf and the CD itself in a folder or
sleeve and pull that CD when the patron wants to check it out.

2. Songs are catalogued in the bibliographic record:
 a.  by listing the song in the notes area;
 b. going to the web and getting song lists by doing a keyword search
for a specific title.
 c. put all the songs into the MARC record by going to the
www.jewishmusic.com website (the songs for their CD's are listed) and
select the song list, copy it, and paste it into the MARC record (notes
field). .soundswrite.com was another source
used.
 d. going to "Google" to locate the album track information/ retrieve
song title information from the internet, which was then cut and pasted
into the online catalogue.
 e. "Itunes" software was another tool mentioned. This was helpful in
locating different versions of the same song on various CD's so patron can
then hear the version.

Thanks again to all and Shabbat Shalom
