[ha-Safran]: Secular Hebrew-language ebooks

2010-06-07 Thread Diane Romm
Read an interesting announcement recently about the development of
secular Hebrew-language ebooks:

http://www.teleread.com/2010/03/12/the-first-hebrew-epub-online-store-hebrew-e-books-at-mendele-he-books/

The blog mentions a site called Mendele Mocher-Sfarim Bareshet

Anyone familiar with it?

[ha-Safran]: Questions for Synagogue librarians - DVD collectioins

2010-06-07 Thread Marga Hirsch
Fellow synagogue librarians,

How do you manage your DVD collections? Do you leave DVD's in their
cases, or keep them behind the desk? Do you assign them call numbers
or categorize them another way? I'm thinking of changing the system I
inherited here and am interested in what others are doing.

A related question: do you still have videocassettes? I have a
shelf-ful; they are rarely checked out. I'm very short of space, so
I'm thinking of removing them all and replacing the titles that I
think people will borrow with DVD's. Does anyone have advice to offer
on the subject?

Reply off-list; I'll summarize the responses and post the summary for
each question.

Thanks!

[ha-Safran]: Meaning

2010-06-07 Thread Linda Silver
Today's People of the Books ended with this statement: Nonfiction
Monday is a moving meme headquartered at Picture Book of the Day (
http://6traits.wordpress.com/nonfiction-monday/ ) and hosted this
week at Charlotte's Library. (http://charlotteslibrary.blogspot.com/ )

Does anyone have any idea of what a moving meme is or am I the only
one who is not utterly, totally familiar with annoyingly-obscure
computer lingo?
