[ha-Safran]: Judiac Librarians discussion at AJL
Come join us for a lively discussion/roundtable on "Judaica Librarianship Coming to a School near You"...even if you've given up on the idea or haven't considered it, we want to hear what you have to say! Two MLIS graduate students, Haim Gottschalk, Indiana University and Nancy Poole, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, went looking for the proverbial Jewish Librarianship program, and could find it nowhere...short of transferring to C.W. Post for the MLIS and undertaking a dual master's degree in Jewish Studies at NYU. (Or failing that, packing up for Israel.) We are looking for the possible - a program to produce a well rounded Judaica Librarian!!! We'll share what we know and ask for your experiences. We'd like to say we'll offer mimosas and snacks, but that might be pushing our luck What ? Higher Education for Judaic Librarians Roundtable Nancy Poole & Haim Gottschalk Where?Senate Room (Session 6A) When? Re: [ha-Safran]: Suggestions for fiction books about Israel
The Waiting Wall by Leah Braunstein Levy is the beautifully-illustrated story of two children's perceptions of the Kotel as they approach. The Secret Tunnel by Joy Nelkin Wieder is an easy chapter book taking place during the time of the first Beit Hamikdash.. [ha-Safran]: Suggestions for fiction books about Israel
Melinda, I love the book The Chicken Man because it is my mother's story only instead of chickens she cared about the kibbutz public area gardens from 1933 to 1950. No one knew better than Mom when to water the flowers and how much water each plant liked :)- Very few kibbutzim today are still living the socialists life. It is possible that by the time that the 2nd graders will be in 8th grade to idea of kibbutz life as described in the book will be a part of the past. It has a historical value as long as kids know the reason for the kibbutz philosophy in the past. It is no longer needed.
