[ha-Safran]: Citation for Echoes and Reflections

2008-09-10 Thread Eva Radding
Gloria Jacobs asked about:

Echoes and Reflections: A Multimedia Curriculum on the Holocaust.
Anti-Defamation League/USC Shoah Foundation/Yad Vashem, 2005.
See Lesson 2: Anti-Semitism, Part 1 - Pre-War Jewish Life and Nazi
Antisemitism from Survivors of the Holocaust, Shoah Visual History
Foundation, 1996.

This curriculum, in a loose-leaf notebook, was jointly published by
ADL, Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation, and Yad
Vashem. It includes an accompanying DVD (or videotape) with video
testimony of survivors that highlight aspects of the history covered
in the curriculum.

According to the website for the curriculum,
http://www.echoesandreflections.org/:

Ten multi-part lessons are provided with a companion DVD or VHS of
over two-and-a-half hours of visual history testimony from survivors
and other witnesses of the Holocaust. Each of the interdisciplinary
lessons is supported with numerous primary source documents,
including poems, literature excerpts, maps, photographs, timelines, a
glossary, and student handouts.

The curriculum is available through the website.

[ha-Safran]: FDR and the Jews

2007-10-26 Thread Eva Radding
Aviva,

Here are a few books that would be helpful to your student doing
research on FDR and the Jews:

Beir, Robert. Roosevelt and the Holocaust: a Rooseveltian examines
the policies and remembers the times. Fort Lee, N.J.: Barricade
Books, 2006.

Feingold, Henry L. The politics of rescue : the Roosevelt
administration and the Holocaust, 1938-1945. New Brunswick, N.J.:
Rutgers University Press, 1970.

Wyman, David S. The abandonment of the Jews: America and the
Holocaust, 1941-1945. New York: Pantheon Books, 1984.

[ha-Safran]: Historical Fiction recommendations

2007-10-24 Thread Eva Radding
In response to George Lederer, here is another work of historical fiction.

Conway, Sara. Murder on Good Friday. Nashville, TN: Cumberland House, 2001.
The murder of a Christian boy in 1220 brings accusations
against a northern English town's few Jews. Miracles convince the
townspeople that the boy is a saint, while the bailiff searches for
evidence that will lead to the killer and save the Jews. The mystery
is engaging, and the setting and relationships between the characters
are well portrayed. Grades 9 and up..
