[ha-Safran]: Living Torah Museum in Brooklyn

2010-02-01 Thread lahad5
Did anyone ever hear of The Living Torah Museum in Brooklyn -
http://www.thelivingtorahmuseum.com/
I do not know who sponsors the museum and if their claims are
legitimate. I have a teacher who would like me to buy their DVDs and
I am hesitant.

Thanks so much -

[ha-Safran]: Posters - clarification

2009-09-14 Thread lahad5
I posted the other day requesting sources for posters on Israel and
Torah-related themes. I received wonderful responses but I should
have specified that I need these posters for high school; most that I
received would be perfect for elementary.

So - if anyone has a source for posters appropriate for high school
classrooms, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much -

[ha-Safran]: Yom HaShoah

2009-03-22 Thread lahad5
Every year we begin our Yom HaShoah program with a candle lighting
ceremony where students light candles in honor or in memory of
relatives who were in the Shoah. We preface the ceremony with a
reading related to memory, hope or survival.

We are looking for a new reading - does anyone have any
suggestions? It need only be a paragraph but one that will help set
the mood for high school students.

Thank you so much -

I have a high school student who is researching the eye. He heard
somewhere that the Vilna Gaon said that since the Hebrew word for

Does anyone know if the Vilna Gaon really said this and where he
could find the text and if the nerves, veins and/or muscles actually
do add up to seventy and how (he has checked Gray's Anatomy and spoke
with some doctors but no one could help him)

[ha-Safran]: Answer to Looking for the Source

2004-10-25 Thread LAHAD5
I had posted, asking for the source of the saying that a person dies when
he uses up all his words or when he runs out of steps.

Since so many of you asked for the response, this is what I received -

It is found in Sefer Chasidim, the edition published by Mossad HaRav Kook,
paragraph 162. Also in the Mekitzai Nirdamim edition, page 13.

Additionally, as some of you mentioned, there is a mention of using up
one's allotment of words in one's lifetime in the short story Tehilla by
S.Y. Agnon.

2003-11-19 Thread LAHAD5
A teacher brought in some seforim and would like to know if they are worth

A 5-volume set of Chok Yisrael, published in Russia in 1898. This is a

the Zohar and perushim in Yiddish.

Sefer Devarim, published in Vilna in 1879.

The print in all these volumes is clear but the pages are yellowed and
somewhat crumbly; the binding is not good.
