RE: [ha-Safran]: Weine or Elazar for Small Reform Synagogue
We could use this wiki for the discussion about synagogue historical collections instead of starting something new. Toby Harris, Librarian Temple De Hirsch Sinai 1522 E. Re: [ha-Safran]: Weine or Elazar for Small Reform Synagogue
Thank you to Debbie Stern for reminding everyone about checking the wiki for useful information. The co-administrators of the wiki are now Diane Romm, who originally set it up and added most of the original content, and Tina Weiss. I also encourage everyone to add your own ideas to this growing body of knowledge. Don't forget to toot your horn when you add something (it's easy - just click "send notification" and others will know about the new material you've put in.) Re: [ha-Safran]: Weine or Elazar for Small Reform Synagogue
Dear Michelle, Mackin is now providing free cataloging in Elazar with books you purchase from them. They might be able to do a retrospective in Elazar. They can be reached at www.mackin.com Good luck, Susan Dubin --- Messages and opinions expressed on Hasafran are those of the individual author and are not necessarily endorsed by the Association of Jewish Libraries (AJL) === Submissions for Ha-Safran, send to: hasaf...@osu.edu SUBscribing, SIGNOFF commands send to: Listproc @ lists.acs.ohio-state.edu Questions, problems, complaints, compliments;-) send to: galron.1 @ osu.edu Ha-Safran Archives: Current: http://www.mail-archive.com/hasafran%40lists.acs.ohio-state.edu/maillist.html History: http://www.mail-archive.com/hasafran%40lists.acs.ohio-state.edu/history.html AJL HomePage http://www.JewishLibraries.org
RE: [ha-Safran]: Weine or Elazar for Small Reform Synagogue
My congregation also recently re-organized its library. We hired a wonderful consultant, our own Susan Dubin, to help make those kind of decisions and set up a new system. [ha-Safran]: Weine or Elazar for Small Reform Synagogue
I've already replied personally to Michelle Sandler about this, but wanted to remind everyone of the usefulness of the AJL Wiki for these kinds of questions. There's a wonderful page with concise information and very helpful links about cataloging for synagogues and centers at http://ajlwiki.pbworks.com/Cataloging-for-Synagogue-and-Center-Libraries that answers many questions about this topic. The Wiki has lots more useful information. Link to it directly from the AJL home page. If you have great information to add to add to the Wiki, just use the Edit tab on the top of any page to submit permission to do so. Diane Romm and Joyce Levine are our wonderful chairs of this project. It was wonderful seeing so many of you at convention in Seattle and I add my thanks to the very hard-working convention committee that made it such a success! Looking forward to working with all of you over the next two years as your VP for Publications. Debbie Stern, Library Director Mordecai M. The library is small and unorganized. The rabbi has gotten together a few members to help organize the library. They do not have any library training. Should they use Weine or Elazar?. What about subject headings? If I go with Elazar who sells the subject heading list? I did not see it in the AJL publications list. The Elazar book is not listed there either. I have a business account with Baker & Taylor. My husband has a small DBA company called Seal Beach Software.
