Re: [ha-Safran] Encyclopedias

2014-08-12 Thread Barbara Mende
Another vote for keeping the 1972 EJ, but in the eight years I've been at our
synagogue no one has ever looked at the yearbooks in my presence, and certainly
no one has asked about them. I think the school director, who gave the old
copies to us presumably because he wanted more room in his office, may have
sneaked in to look at them once a year or so.

[ha-Safran] Greetings from ResourceMate - AJL members

2014-08-12 Thread Association of Jewish Libraries
We hope that you enjoyed the AJL conference in Las Vegas in July.

While ResourceMate Library Automation Software was not able to attend in
person we hope to be there in Washington DC for the special 50th Annual
Conference.

As members of AJL we wanted to be sure to support the conference in some
way and decided that in lieu of attending we would send information about
the family of products.

We hope you found our Places of Worship brochures as well as our Product
Comparison guide that lists features of each of the ResourceMate family of
products. Demos were also available.

I wanted to make you aware of a promotion that we also offered at the
conference. Using promo code 20AJL14, you would receive a 10% discount on
your ResourceMate software purchase. The code expires Sept 25, 2014.

Since we were not at the conference to speak with you directly, I wanted to
share testimonials from two of our over 9,900 users.

Akiba Academy of Dallas says:
LOVE it - worth every single penny.
It’s great product and I’ve been using it for 10 years at multiple jobs.
I did forget to say how WONDERFUL the staff is. Every time I need help.
Everyone is prompt, friendly and VERY CAPABLE !

Dix Hills Jewish Center says:
I did research before selecting Resourcemate. It was the easiest to use,
the most comprehensive for my needs. The support, both on-line and
personal via phone, is excellent. I heartily recommend Resourcemate.

I would be happy to answer any of your questions or to take your order.
Please reply to this email or call our office at 1-800-815-8370.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Tanja Ducharme

Re: [ha-Safran] Encyclopedias

2014-08-12 Thread Joyce Levine
Hi Bernice,
If you have the space I would suggest that you keep the 1972 edition of EJ
since it has some articles which are not included in the newer edition. I
would not keep the yearbooks, however.

Re: [ha-Safran] Offprints of articles by Moshe Pelli

2014-08-12 Thread Ben Ravid
Shalom,

Yes, I have a similar problem with off-prints - on the Jews of Venice...
Some of the articles were photo-reproduced in B. Ravid, *Studies on the
Jews of Venice, 1382-1797 *(Ashgate: Aldershot, Hants, 2003)*, *which is
suitable for university libraries and research centers.

Also, may I draw your attention to two other works that are suitable also
for the "general reader":

Robert C. Davis and Benjamin Ravid, *The Jews of Early Modern Venice*
(Johns Hopkins University Press: Baltimore, 2001).

B. Ravid, ed, *State of Israel, Diaspora and Jewish Continuity* (University
Press of New England: Hanover and London, 1998), expanded paperback edition
of *Israel: The Ever**‑**Dying People and Other Essays by Simon Rawidowicz.*

Since 2016 will mark the 500th anniversary of the ghetto of Venice, which
as Robert Bonfil, observed, “retains the copyright for the semantically
innovative term ghetto as defining the locus of the settlement of the Jews
in the city,” your library may be receiving inquiries on Venice and the
ghetto.

With all best wishes,

Benjamin Ravid
