Re: [ha-Safran] Speech to text / Text to speech apps

2022-03-03 Thread Emily Bergman via Hasafran
I have a blind student who uses JAWS, which I've been told is one of the
most popular screen/text readers. My university provides the Kurzweil
program to students. Emily

[ha-Safran] Does anyone have....

2022-03-03 Thread London, Shira via Hasafran
Does anyone have a copy of the Holocaust memoir The Puzzleman, by Ivan
Moscovich that they are willing to lend for a short time? Our library would
pay all shipping and insurance costs. I have searched everywhere for this book.
The author lives in the Netherlands, and although I have contacted the
journalist who interviewed him for The Jewish Week, I haven't heard back from
her. Many thanks!

[ha-Safran] Controversial book

2022-03-03 Thread Marcia Goldstein via Hasafran
In a previous post, there was mention of the map in the book "Amazing Women of
the Middle East" eliminating Israel (the area is labeled as Palestine). Have
any communities contacted their local libraries about this book? If so, have
any libraries removed it from their collection? Incidentally, Amazon is selling
the book, with half of the reviews giving it one star for the inaccuracy
portrayed by the map.

[ha-Safran] Association of Jewish Libraries Statement on Ukraine

2022-03-03 Thread AJL PR via Hasafran
The Association of Jewish Libraries expresses deep concern for and solidarity
with the people of Ukraine. We are devastated over the loss of life and
destruction of property and wish to offer support in any way we can to assist
in this very difficult situation. There are many important Judaica collections
in Ukraine, including in the state libraries, archives large and small,
museums, and university collections in the hard-hit cities of Kharkov and Kyiv,
as well as throughout the country. We are hoping and praying for the safety and
care of the custodians of these collections, many of whom are friends and
colleagues, and for their families and the broader Ukrainian nation. Please
know that we stand with you in these trying times.
