2022-07-11 Thread Sandra Aguilar via Hasafran
Dear AJL Members,

USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education is
seeking a Thesaurus Specialist to join its Archiving, Indexing, and Metadata
team within Information Technology Services. This position reports to the USC
Shoah Foundation Manager of Metadata.

The Thesaurus Specialist (Library Tech Specialist) will be responsible for
overseeing and expanding the Institute’s circa 70,000-term thesaurus used for
indexing its Holocaust and genocide collections of audio- and audiovisual oral
histories. The thesaurus management work involves researching, writing, and
organizing indexing terms, as well as creating the appropriate hierarchical
structures according to existing standards (USC Shoah Foundation Thesaurus
Management Guidelines) and using proprietary software.

USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education develops
empathy, understanding, and respect through testimony, using its Visual History
Archive of more than 55,000 video testimonies, academic programs and
partnerships across USC and 170 universities, and award-winning I Witness
education program. USC Shoah Foundation's interactive programming, research and
materials are accessed in museums and universities, cited by government leaders
and NGOs, and taught in classrooms around the world. Now in its third decade,
USC Shoah Foundation reaches millions of people on six continents from its home
at the University of Southern California.

Initially a repository of Holocaust testimony, the Visual History Archive has
expanded to include testimonies from the Armenian Genocide that coincided with
World War I, the 1937 Nanjing Massacre in China, the Cambodian Genocide of
1975-1979, the Guatemalan Genocide of 1978-1983, the 1994 Genocide against the
Tutsi in Rwanda, and the ongoing conflicts in the Central African Republic and
South Sudan, War and Genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and anti-Rohingya mass
violence. It also includes testimonies about contemporary acts of violence
against Jews.

2022-07-11 Thread rmwk--- via Hasafran

Dear Mr. Galron;

As per our conversation:
I recently self-published a limited edition book in the field of Judaica.
Brandeis University Press advised me to to turn to Randall Press, and ( with my
input) they did, a stunning job.(The Metropolitan Museum of Art requested a
copy from me)

Title:
Czenstochower Yizkerbukh, by Chonon Kiel, An Illuminated Manuscript,Edited
Translated with an Introduction by Mark W. Kiel
Czestochowa was a major center of pre-Holocaust Jewish life in Poland.During
the fall holiday season, September-October, 1942, more then 40,000 Jews, 95
percent of the population, were murdered

I am interested in having my book distributed to libraries, universities, and
book shops that have Holocaust Studies and Judaica departmentsin the U.S.
Canada, Israel, Germany and England. The price of the book can be determined by
you.
I would greatly appreciate whatever help, to what ever extent, you could afford
me.

Your name was given to me by Ina Cohen, librarian at the Jewish Theological
Seminary, in New York.
My telephone number is 201- 294- 9788, or house phone, 845-504-5554. Best to
reach me by email: r...@aol.com.I would be happy to send you a sample copy

As a first-time attendee, I LOVED how supportive everyone was.
It was wonderful to be with old and new friends.
