Re: [ha-Safran] Memoir or other engaging read to learn about Judaism

2023-12-05 Thread AMK Judaica via Hasafran
1) Hugo Mandelbaum, Jewish Life in the Village Communities of Southern Germany
(Feldheim), is an overlooked and easy-to-read, short memoir with a lot of
content about traditional Jewish life.
2) Abraham Carmel, So Strange My Life, is the autobiographical account of an
Anglican-turned Roman Catholic priest—turned Orthodox Jew (taught English in
Yeshiva of Flatbush H.S.).

I had a request from a friend who's colleague is looking for a book she can
read to learn about Judaism. In order to keep her interest and attention, she's
hoping to find a memoir or some other engaging narrative. I don't think it
needs to be a complete Judaism 101, just something that will inform and maybe
invite further research or learning. Even a quality work of fiction might suit
the purpose at this point.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

all are fascinating stories of journeys to Judaism and learning about its laws
and traditions.
I read them all and enjoyed each one.
