I am going through the same thing at the "request" of our new rabbi who feels that Sefaria is adequate for most text study, so-called coffee table books just take up space and there is no need for multi-volume items. For books that still have some value i.e. are not outdated or classics, maybe there is a book drive that raises money for scholarships, Better World Books might have a drop off at a nearby public library or there could be a book dealer who might be interested.I do feel your pain.  I think a lot of us are going through  similar challenges right now because of space needs and/or the perception that books are outdated.Aileen GrossbergLampert LibraryCongregation Shomrei EmunahMontclair, NJ

Happy Hanukkah:I am getting rid of half of my Reform Synagogue Library.  The Library room is needed for a Youth Lounge/Classroom/Meeting Room.  I have 1,500 adult Judaica books to get rid of.  Most of the books were published pre ISBN. I live in Southern California an hour from Los Angeles.  Where do I take them to be donated or where can I sell them cheaply?  I am not necessarily looking for payment, just a way not to have to put them in the dumpster.  They are sitting in a storage shed at the synagogue and the space is needed for other things.  I have already tried the Jewish Federation of Orange County and the one in Long Beach, the Jewish Community Center of Orange County, and the one in Long Beach. Heritage Point Jewish Home for the Aged in Orange County.  Lastly, the Jewish Studies Department at the University of California in Irvine.  All of these locations have turned me down.Michelle Sandler MLSLibrarianBeth David Westminster, California

[ha-Safran] Libraries - Better World Books Services for donating your gently used titles: in response to Michelle Sandler

2023-12-10 Thread Wendie Sittenfield via Hasafran
Dear safranim,

I had a contract with Better World Books.

They provided boxes and paid for UPS labels.

I would send them my gently used titles. They require that a minimum of
14 boxes are sent at a time.

They have criteria and protocol which are explained on the website.

Ina Clagette was my outstanding customer service representative.

B.W.B. will either donate the books, or resell them. The library receives
a small percentage of the proceeds for books sold.

The impressive part is that the company provides you with statistics and
analytics in a format that looks great to include in an annual or mid year
library report.

The link below explains the details.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
