Please post the following item on behalf of AJL-Canada.
Many thanks!
Anne Dublin
Toronto

If you're in Toronto on January 24 - 27, 2024 at the OLA (Ontario Library
Association) Super Conference, please add *Before, During, and Beyond The
Holocaust – Curating and Balancing Historical and Modern Jewish Books* to
your calendar. The session will take place on Friday, January 26, 2:15 PM -
3:30 PM. Authors Kathy Kacer, Anne Dublin, Tziporah Cohen, and Joanne Levy
will discuss Jewish books: important historicals that cover events like the
Holocaust, biographies about influential people, entertaining books that
explore modern life and holidays through a Jewish lens, and works that
educate and inform on antisemitism and hate. The aim in this session is to
discuss and highlight Jewish books and where they fit into libraries--from
displays to honour Jewish Heritage Month and holidays, to providing
supporting resources for in-class curriculum and everyday learning.

2019-09-20 Thread Anne Dublin via Hasafran
I'm delighted to announce that  A Cage Without Bars (Second Story Press) will
receive the Canadian Jewish Literary Award (Youth) 2019. http://cjlawards.ca/ I
hope my family, friends, and colleagues will be able to attend this event.
Wishing a sweet New Year to my AJL friends and colleagues,
Anne Dublin

Here's the press release:
The Canadian Jewish Literary Awards is honouring eight outstanding books for
2019.  Now in its fifth year, the Canadian Jewish Literary Awards recognizes
and rewards the finest Canadian Jewish writing.
Winners have been declared in the following categories: fiction, memoir,
biography, history, scholarship, Holocaust, Yiddish, and books for children and
youth.
“Choosing just eight Award winners was a challenge this year,” says Jury
chair, Edward Trapunski. “The depth and breadth and quality of the submissions
show the vibrancy of the culture and the appeal of Jewish themes for fiction
and non-fiction writers.”
The awards ceremony will be held on October 27, 2019, at 2:00 pm in the Tribute
Communities Recital Hall, Accolade East Building, York University, 4700 Keele
St., Toronto. Everybody is invited and welcome. Admission and parking are free.
The York University subway station is conveniently right outside the door of
the theatre.
Meet the winning authors and hear them speak about their books. A dessert
reception will follow where the award-winning books will be available for
purchase and author signing.

Re: [ha-Safran] Please welcome Ellen Drucker-Albert to AJL News and Reviews team!

2020-06-03 Thread Anne Dublin via Hasafran
Hi Ellen,Welcome to the AJL News & Reviews team! I’m sure you’ll do a wonderful job as co-editor for Children’s/Teens Reviews. When I was in that role a number of years ago, I found it rewarding and stimulating. Chava, good luck as you transition to new endeavors. You’ve done a terrific job!Lisa, I’m glad you’re staying on as co-editor. Keep sending those meaningful Jewish books across the U.S./Canada border. All the best,Anne DublinToronto Sent from Mail for Windows 10 From: Sally Stieglitz via HasafranSent: June 1, 2020 1:19 PMTo: Hasafran; Dina Herbert; Kathleen Bloomfield; Karen Ulric (ajlcopyedi...@gmail.com); Lisa Silverman; Pinchuck, Chava; Heidi Rabinowitz; Kolodney, Uri; Daniel Scheide; Jefferson, Rebecca; AJL Council; AJL Board; Ellen DruckerSubject: [ha-Safran] Please welcome Ellen Drucker-Albert to AJL News and Reviews team! Dear safaranim, It is with great pleasure that I ask you to join me in welcoming our newest AJL member and AJL News and Reviews team member, Ellen Drucker-Albert. I have known Ellen for three years; we work together on a local committee called "Long Island Reads"  and she is always great to work with! Ellen will be joining us as a co-editor for Children's and Teen Reviews and working with fellow co-editors Chava and Lisa as Chava transitions to stepping away from her role at News and Reviews, after a significant tenure on our team, to focus on new endeavors.  I've asked Ellen to "introduce herself" in a short blurb:  It is my absolute pleasure to be joining AJL’s News and Reviews team as co-editor for Children's/Teen's Reviews. I am excited to return to my “roots.” I began my librarianship career about 25 years ago at the Solomon Schechter Day School of Suffolk County on Long Island, NY, where I assisted in the creation of their school library, and served as their Librarian, sharing my passion for Children’s and Teen literature. Jewish education was, and remains an important part of my career path. I taught elementary through high school age groups at the Solomon Schechter Day School, Camp Ramah in the Berkshires, the high school programs at the Suffolk Hebrew Midrasha Academy and the Ivry Prozdor High School of the Jewish Theological Seminary. I provided instruction in subjects ranging from Bible, Jewish literature, film, Constitutional law and Jewish ethics. I am also an attorney admitted in the State of New York, and have been a grader for the NY Board of Law Examiners since 1999. Currently, I am the Adult & Information Services Manager at the Cold Spring Harbor Library & Environmental Center. I serve as a member of the Long Island Reads Committee, an Island-wide reading initiative intended to bring readers together to discuss one book and participate in related programming. I moderate a monthly book discussion at the Cold Spring Harbor Library. I enjoy providing readers’ advisory services to my Rabbi recommending titles for his book discussions at the synagogue and participating in these Jewish-themed discussions. I am looking forward to contributing to the mission of the AJL promoting Jewish literacy and am appreciative of this opportunity to promote and encourage the engagement with Jewish literature for Children and Teens! Ellen Drucker-Albert  Please join me in welcoming Ellen to our community.  Best, Sally-- Sally StieglitzCommunications and Marketing Coordinator  | Long Island Library Resources Councilsstiegl...@lilrc.org | 631-675-1570 x2005 http://www.lilrc.org  http://orcid.org/-0003-1552-9188LILRC is a member of the Empire State Library Network (ESLN) Follow LILRC on Facebook Twitter Instagram __

[ha-Safran] Thank you!

2020-07-06 Thread Anne Dublin via Hasafran
Dear colleagues and friends,
I would be remiss not to add my thanks to all the other messages sent so far.
Thank you to the organizers, AV staff, participants, speakers, and “chatters”
who added immeasurably to this conference. I would not have been able to attend
the in-person conference, so this virtual conference gave me an opportunity to
connect with many of you. From the comfort of my own home, I attended many
interesting and forceful presentations. Although I’m no longer in the librarian
business, I still feel connected to this wonderful group of book lovers and
book mavens. May you go from strength to strength.
All the best from Toronto,
Anne Dublin

[ha-Safran] Looking for source of quotes

2021-07-07 Thread Anne Dublin via Hasafran
Dear friends and colleagues,I’m in the process of writing a journal article, and found a couple of quotes I want to use. I’d like to footnote them correctly. Here they are: John Irving: “… to look at the arc of your life, it’s all connected. To see how you got from there to here.”Edward Albee: “… the act of writing is an act of optimism. You would not take the trouble to do it if you felt it didn’t matter.”   Thanks in advance for your help.Anne DublinToronto  Sent from Mail for Windows 10
