Re: [ha-Safran] Call for submissions: 2025 Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award

2024-09-09 Thread Talya Sokoll via Hasafran
Hello!
Just wanted to send a quick reminder that all submissions for the 2025
Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award are due *THIS FRIDAY, September 13th, 2024*.

The Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award recognizes unpublished manuscripts of
Jewish fiction targeting ages 8-13. The committee defines an unpublished
author as not having previously published any works of fiction for young
readers. This includes self-published as well as commercially published
work. Completed manuscripts are due September 13th, 2024.

The manuscript must be a work of fiction in English between 20,000 and
50,000 words with significant Jewish content for readers aged 8-13 years,
both Jewish and non-Jewish. It should reveal positive aspects of Jewish
life. Please note we do not accept poetry or short stories.

The winner will be announced in January 2025. Questions can be referred to
the Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award Chair, Talya Sokoll.
The winning manuscript will receive $1000 and recognition in the publishing
world. We do not guarantee that your book will be published, but many
winning manuscripts have found publishers. See the list on the Award's
webpage.

For details check out the Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award page of the
Association of Jewish Libraries
or contact me
by email.
Best,
Talya

[ha-Safran] Booklist from We Contain Multitudes panal at AJL conference

2024-07-16 Thread Talya Sokoll via Hasafran
Hello!
I just wanted to send out a booklist that the panelists of the We Contain
Multitudes

panel compiled. This is a *non-comprehensive* list of recommended titles
for young people that contain Jewish representation as well as
representation of other kinds of identities. I've linked the booklist here

as
a view-only Google doc but if anyone wants to add any titles please feel
free to email me directly and I will add them!
Best,
Talya Sokoll
