One of our readers in the library is in search of a modern novel that was
originally written in English and subsequently translated to Hebrew. The
novel should focus on a maternal figure in a patriarchal society or,
alternatively, matriarchs in a female lineage.

The Hebrew novels *Four Mothers* and *Tamara Walks on Water* by Shifra
Horen would be two such examples, but for the language origin.



Another option could be a novel that touches on physical and emotional
maternal deprivation or alienation, also written originally in English and
translated into Hebrew.


Any suggestions???

I was asked by one of our professors:
Is there any way to find out how many books of poetry were published by
African American/Black poets (slave, free born, or freed) in the eighteenth
century? How many in the 19th?

One of our professors is looking  for the frontispiece - an image - of the
1644 Latin publication of Pirke de Rabbi Eliezer, translated by Vorstius.

I would contact Kevin Young at the Schomburg Library.  He edited the
recently (2020) published compendium *African American Poetry: 250 Years of
Struggle and Song*.
It contains notes on the texts, as well as biographical notes on the
poets.

Smadar,Would Sefer Ha-Aggadah  edited by Bialik and Ravnitsky and translated 
into The Book of Legends work?  All original sources appear in footnotes, in 
English, so everything can traced back to sources which can often also be found 
in translation.  There are 3 -4 pages on Kamtza and Bar Kamtza and numerous

[ha-Safran] Can you help with identification of copy of cantorial sheet music without title page?

Dear colleagues,

A student asked me to identify the photocopy (no title pages) of cantorial 
scores for the High Holydays which once belonged to their mother.

The original book must have been published before 1992. It has at least 224 
pages. It was used by a conservative cantor in Philadelphia.

I really want to help, but I am out of my depth. I already did some searches in 
WorldCat but before I go deeper and start looking for bibliographies or bother 
other people, I wanted to ask whether anyone of you maybe can identify the 
publication on first sight (I would also be grateful for any advice you might 
have how else to get a handle on this).

I linked the scans the students send me: One contains 
scores, some of which have designated composers, Louis Lewandowski (buried in 
Berlin Weissensee), Jacob Wasilkowsky and previous JTS faculty member Israel 
Goldfarb, and the other 
contains the first 2 and the last 2 pages of the photocopy.
