Kalau setakat sembahyang sahaja sudah memadai kita dipanggil ahli sunnah, maka Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul lebih sunnah dari kita, sebab beliau solat belakang Nabi dan sebijik macam Nabi buat. Malah kalau sahabat yang buat perbuatan bida`ah, ada ketika Abdullah bin Ubai yang akan tegur sahabat tersebut dari perbuatan bida`ah itu."...Tu dia tuan-tuan yang kata Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul, bapa munafik tu. Tambah Sheikh Abdul Aziz al-Badri lagi, "Nasib baik Allah matikan Abdullah bin Ubai lebih awal dari Nabi saw. Sekiranya Allah matikan dia selepas wafatnya Rasulullah, dibimbangi akan wujud satu lagi mazhab yang mungkin dipelopori oleh Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul. Kerana apa?...Kerana dari segi ibadah, Abdullah bin Ubai buat sebijik macam Nabi buat, dan dia boleh keluarkan fatwa tentang masalah fekah dan ibadah."...Ni dia tuan-tuan. Bukan ana yg ucap semua ni, tapi inilah dia tulisan Sheikh Abdulk Aziz al-Badri. Kat area Penang memang tak jumpa buku "Islam, ulama dan pemerintah". Ana pun ada sahabat yg bagi pinjam buku tu yg dibeli di Kelantan. Nampak hebat kan si Abdullah bin Ubai tu tuan-tuan?...Tapi pasai apa dia tidak dikatogerikan sebagai sahabat, dan dihumban ke neraka Allah?...Jawapannya ialah dia ikut Nabi hanya semata-mata dari segi ibadatnya sahaja, tetapi nn jauh di dalam lubuk hatinya, tersimpan satu hasad yang cukup busuk kepada perjuangan Nabi saw. Dalam ertikata lain, ibadat yang dibuatnya, tidak ada keikhlasan langsung. So point ana ialah buku tulisan Sheikh Abdul Azizi al-Badri itu cukup baik utk sahabat-sahabat salafi baca utk bermuhasabah. Dengan membacanyaseorangyang miskin akan menjadi kaya, dan jika dibaca ketika hendak tidurnescayaakan terselamat dari kecurian, kebakaran dan kekaraman. Barangsiapasentiasa membaca ayat Al-Kursi, nescaya Allah akan kurniakan kepada ahlirumahnya kebaikkan yang tidak terhitung banyaknya. Barangsiapa berwudhuklalu membaca sekali, nescaya Allah akan meninggikan darjatnya setinggi40darjat dan Allah akan mendatangkan para malaikat menurut bilanganhurufnya,seraya berdoa untuk sipembaca sehinggalah ke hari Qiamat.Dan tersebut dalam hadith yang lain:Barangsiapa membacanya ketika hendak tidur, nescaya Allah akan membukapintu rahmat baginya hingga kesubuh, dan mengurniakan kota nur menurutbilangan rambut dibadannya. Jika sipembacanya meninggal dunia pada malamitu, ia dikira mati syahid.Imam Jaafar S hadiq r.a. mengatakan:Barangsiapa membaca sekali, nescaya Allah akan menghindar darinya 1,000kesukaran duniawi, yang terkecil sekali ialah kemiskinan dan kepapaan,dan1,000 kesukaran ukhrawi, yang terkecil sekali ialah azab neraka.(4) SURAH AL-BAQARAH (Sapi Betina)Barangsiapa membaca dua ayat terakhir dari surah ini (Amanar rasulu)sebelum tidur, ia akan terselamat dari segala bala bencana dan marabahaya.(5) SURAH ALI-IMRAN (Keluarga Imran)Barangsiapa membaca tiga ayat yang pertama dari surah ini, nescaya iaakanmencapai kesihatan dari segala penyakit dan terselamat dari gangguanjin.(6) SURAH AN-NISSA' (Perempuan)Barangsiapa yang membaca ayat yang ke 75 dari surah ini, nescaya ia akanterselamat dari kejahatan para penjahat.(7) SURAH AL-MAIDAH (Hidangan)Barang siapa membaca ayat yang ke 7 dari surah ini, sebanyak yangmungkinselama 3 hari berturut -turut, insyaAllah akan terselamat dari was-wassemasa wudhu dan sembahyang. Barang siapa membaca ayat 89 hingga ayat 101darisurah ini, keatas air lalu diberi minum kepada orang yang bercakapdusta,nescaya dia tidak akan bercakap dusta lagi.(8) SURAH AL-AN'AM (Binatang Ternak)Barang siapa membacanya sebanyak 7 kali, nescaya akan terhindar darisegalabala bencana. Jika ayat 63 dan 64 dari surah ini,dibaca oleh penumpangkapal, ia akan terselamat dari karam dan tenggelam.(9) SURAH AL-A'RAAF (Benteng Tinggi)Barang kali membaca ayat 23 dari surah ini, selepas tiap-tiap sembahyangfardhu, lalu beristighfar kepada Allah, nescaya akan terampun segaladosanya. Barang siapa membaca ayat 47 dari surah ini, ia akanterpeliharadari kekacauan para penzalim serta ia akan mendapat rahmat Allah.(10) SURAH AL- ANFAL (Rampasan)Barang siapa membaca ayat 62 dan 63 dari surah ini, nescaya dia akan dicintai dan dihormati oleh sekalian manusia.(11) SURAH AL-BARAAH (AT-TAUBAH) ( Pemutus Perhubungan)Barang siapa membacanya, nescaya akan terselamat dari kemunafiqan danakanmencapai hakikat iman. Barang siapa membaca ayat 111 dari surah ini,dikedai atau ditempat-tempat perniagaan, nescaya akan maju perniagaannyaitu.(12) SURAH YUNUS (Yunus)Barangsiapa membaca ayat 31 dari surah ini, keatas perempuan yang hamil,nescaya ia akan melahirkan anak dalam kandungannya itu dengan selamat.Barang siapa membaca ayat 64 dari surah ini, nescaya ia akan terhindardarimimpi-mimpi yang buruk dan mengigau.(13) SURAH AL-HUD (Hud)Barang siapa membaca, nescaya ia akan mendapat kekuatan dan kehebatansertaketenangan dan ketenteraman jiwa. Barang siapa membaca ayat 56 darisurahini, pada setiap masa, nescaya ia akan terselamat dari gangguan manusiayang jahat dan binatang yang liar. Barang siapa membaca ayat 112 darisurahini, sebanyak 11 kali selepas tiap-tiap sembahyang, nescaya akanmencapaiketetapan hati.(14) SURAH YUSUF (Yusuf)Barang siapa membacanya, akan di murahkan rezekinya dan diberikankemuliaankepadanya. Most Muslims are
aware of and try to avoid the major sins in Islam - murder, suicide, adultery,
alcohol, gambling, usury, etc. Muslims are forbidden to harm themselves or
others. Yet millions of Muslims all over the world are doing just that -
harming, even killing themselves and their families. Islamic scholars have
historically had mixed views on the subject, and the actions of these Muslims
have not been unanimously forbidden or even discouraged.
The danger is
tobacco use - cigarette and cigar smoking, chew, etc. The mixed views on the
subject came about because cigarettes are a more recent invention and did not
exist at the time of the revelation of the Qur'an in the 7th century A.D.
Therefore, one cannot find a verse of Qur'an or words of the Prophet Muhammad
(peace be upon him) saying clearly that "Cigarettee smoking is forbidden."
However, there are many instances where the Qur'an gives us general
guidelines, and calls upon us to use our reason and intelligence, and seek
guidance from Allah about what is right and wrong. In the Qur'an, Allah says,
he [the Prophet] commands them what is
just, and forbids them what is evil; he allows them as lawful what is good,
and prohibits them from what is bad..." (Surah al-Ar'af 7:157). So
what are the evils of tobacco use, for your health and for your deen (religion)?
1. Danger to your
health
Allah
says,"...make not your own hands
contribute to your destruction..."(Surah al-Baqarah 2:195,
);"...nor kill yourselves..."
(Surah al-Nisaa 4:29). It is universally understood that cigarette smoking
causes a number of health problems that often ultimately result in death. Men
who smoke contract lung cancer at 22 times the rate of non-smokers. Smokers
are also highly at risk for heart disease, emphysema, oral cancer, stroke,
etc. There are hundreds of poisonous and toxic ingredients in the cigarette
itself that the smoker inhales straight into the lungs. In an authentic
hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that "Whomsoever drinks
poison, thereby killing himself, will sip this poison forever and ever in the
fire of Jahannam (Hell)." Over
3 million people worldwide die from smoking-related causes each year.
2. Danger to your
family's health
In the Qur'an,
Allah says: "Those who annoy believing men
and women undeservedly bear on themselves a glaring sin" (Surat al-Ahzaab 33:58).
The Prophet (peace
be upon him) said that "there should be neither harming, nor reciprocating
harm." In another hadith, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Anyone who
believes in Allah and the Last Day should not hurt his neighbor." Those around
the smoker inhale what is known as "second-hand smoke" - the unfiltered,
poisonous waste that goes in the air around the smoker. There are over 4,000
chemicals in cigarette smoke, over 40 of which are known to cause cancer.
Second-hand smoke causes or aggravates asthma, bronchitis, and other
respiratory problems, especially in children.
3. Addictive
The addiction to
tobacco is a physical response that often interferes with one's life and
worship. For example, most Muslims are aware that it is forbidden to smoke
during the fasting days of Ramadan. Many of these addicted smokers spend their
fasting days sleeping, cranky, and short-tempered, just counting the hours
until they can have their fix. There have been times when the most severely
addicted will wait outside the masjed door for the adhan, and break their fast
by lighting up, before taking even food or water.
4. Noxious Smell
Muslims are
advised to refrain from eating raw onions and garlic - simply as a courtesy to
those around them. Nobody likes the smell. The same goes even more so for the
reek of cigarettes, which permeates everything around the smoker - hair,
clothing, home, car, etc. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: whoever has
eaten from such greens as garlic, onions or leek should keep away from our
mosque.?Many smokers try to hide the smell by using breath mints or perfume.
This does not get rid of the smell, it only masks it. Often the combination of
smells is even more nauseating.
5. Waste of Money
Allah says,
"...But spend not wastefully (your wealth)
in the manner of a spendthrift. Verily spendthrifts are brothers of the
devils...?"{Surah al-Israa17:26-27}
In an authentic
hadith the Prophet (peace be upon him) said that: "Allah hates for you three
things: gossiping, begging, and wasting money." In the U.S. and other
countries, cigarettes are taxed heavily in order to discourage this habit and

At a time when other libertarians stayed silent or championed the regime, he as usual spoke truth to power. The Ground Rules for Fighting Terrorism This 3-part series will propose the actions I believe our government should take to fight terrorism. Before looking at those proposals, however, we need to establish some ground rules. Perfection Isn't an Option Rule #1: No solution is going to be perfect. Our government has created ill will in many parts of the world. It has bullied smaller countries, imposed new governments upon people who didn't want them, and demanded that other governments do what our government wants. It's unrealistic to think that there's anything that can be done now to quickly undo all the ill will. I have been criticized for dwelling on what our government has done that led to the terrorist attacks. But if we don't understand what provoked this, we can't evaluate any response to it and we can expect that the faulty policies will continue and provoke more such attacks against Americans. Foreign Policy Is the Issue Rule #2: It is American foreign policy that has provoked the attacks, not anything inherent in Muslim fundamentalism. There are hundreds of millions of Muslims in the world who don't believe in killing non-Muslims. In fact, Muslims have been killed in Arab terrorist attacks, just as non-Muslims have. In an interview conducted by John Miller for Esquire in February 1999, Osama bin Laden said: "This is my message to the American people: to look for a serious government that looks out for their interests and does not attack others, their lands, or their honor. And my word to American journalists is not to ask why we did that but ask what their government has done that forced us to defend ourselves." The fact that bin Laden uses bad means to achieve his ends doesn't excuse our own government's mistakes; nor does it justify our government doing the same things he does. Bombing Doesn't Work Rule #3: Bombing foreign countries doesn't end terrorism, it provokes it. Our government has bombed Libya, Iraq, the Sudan, and Afghanistan, among other countries, supposedly to teach terrorists a lesson. But the bombings haven't caused terrorists or foreign governments to change their policies. This Is a Crime, Not War Rule #4: The terrorist attacks are a criminal matter, not a war. War is by definition an armed conflict between governments. No government has claimed responsibility for the September 11 attacks, and no government has been so accused. Calling the present situation a war is an excuse to impose wartime policies against Americans and foreigners including violations of the Bill of Rights and killing foreign civilians. Because the September attacks were a crime, the government's job is to locate and bring to trial any perpetrators who didn't die in the attacks. If some of them are located in foreign countries, our government should request extradition not threaten to bomb the foreign country if we don't get our way. If not all the criminals are found and brought to trial, it doesn't mean that bombing innocent people would have brought the criminals to justice. Reverse Positions Rule #5: If you think you or America is entitled to something, reverse the positions and see how you'd react. If Afghanistan doesn't turn bin Laden over to our government, ask yourself whether you'd want your government to turn you over to the Iranian government if it accused you of a crime. If you don't think that American troops in almost a hundred foreign countries are a source of resentment, ask yourself how you'd feel if Chinese troops were stationed in your city. If you believe America has a right to bomb foreign countries for the actions of a few, ask yourself whether you'd want foreign governments to bomb your city because of something Bill Clinton did. (Haven't we already established that the terrorists were wrong to kill innocent civilians because of their hatred for American foreign policy?) Government Is Incompetent Rule #6: Government does not do anything well even those functions delegated to it by the Constitution. The government has the constitutional authority to operate a Post Office. But if it's urgent that a package get to the other side of America by tomorrow morning, will you trust the constitutional Post Office or will you use Federal Express? Don't assume that just because the government has the legal authority to do something that it will actually succeed. So be careful what you ask for. What Is the Object? Asmwbkth... ** Dana JIM ** Lepas solat Fajr di Surau Saujana Impian Gemilang, AKAD bergegas ke company Yahudi di Saujana Impian; Tesco. AKAD redah satu tong sampah ke satu tong sampah mengutip recyclelable goods. AKAD naik motor. So, banyak kotak-kotak yang AKAD tak boleh nak bawa. at least hampir 30 kilo. lost begitu sahaja. Jadi yang AKAD dapat bawa atas motor sekitar 20 kilo, campuran paper, plastik items, aluminium cans, dan tin cans. Insya ALLAH bila jual, untuk satu pagi ini sahaja, lebih dari RM 10 boleh dapat. Ada ikhwah dan zaugah dia awal-awal dah ke Tesco. Serempak dengan AKAD; "Eh Khairy, enta buat apa tu?" AKAD kata; "Ya akhie, tak dapat salam enta sebab tangan kotor, badan kena tong sampah... Akhie, a man's poison is another man's cure... A man's trash, is another man's income... Minyakpetrol tak naik harga ya akhie, di Malaysia ni memang macam tu harga dia, sekitar RM 3.97 seliter, tapi hanya subsidi yang dipanggil balik sebanyak RM0.30 sen seliter... Jadi ini lah kesudahannya ya akhie..., Gaji banyak tu juga... Jamaah nak duit... Alhamdulillah, buat kerja ni dapat extra RM seratui lebih, dua ratui lebih sebulan dapat kat jamaah, jadilah..." Ikhwah tu mengiyakan sahaja... dan kami berpisah; AKAD pergi redah tong besar di belakang pulak... So, bila menaip ke mailists, AKAD tak ada masa nak pikir sebelum hantar... Pi qadha hajat pun, ada masa sampai hampir nak 'accident' tebaghai, baru AKAD terpaksa pergi juga lah... Alhamdulillah ALLAH kekalkan kita atas usaha islah dan dakwah ini sampai mati syahid hendaknya, ameeen... ** Saudara Baru ** Alhamdulillah, ada ikhwah yang bermurah hati, telah menyumbangkan RM untuk membiayai program tarbiyyah akhi Muhd Daniel Sathiyan Nehru. Insya Allah AKAD akan beri maklumat book keepingnya bila AKAD buat perbelanjaan nanti. Bila susut nanti, AKAD mintak lagi. Lepas tu, sekitar minggu 2 minggu lepas, seorang lagi saudara baru; gadis Cina, pelajar tahun satu fakulti AKAD juga, telah kembali kepada pelukan Islam. Namanya Winnie Khoo. Kini namanya Nurul Iman Khoo. Insya ALLAH Nuul Iman ni, keluarga dia dah tahu... Tapi tak boleh terima dan minta dia murtad dan beri tempoh kepada mereka untuk adaptasi selama 2 tahun; lepas tu kembalilah semula kepada Islam... AKAD kata kepada Winnie; "Mereka akan jadi kayu api kepada kuali yang besar bernama neraka itu, you mahu kembali bersama-sama mereka jadi kayu api!!?" Laju dia menggeleng... Keluarga Iman ini penjaga Tua Peh Kong. Iman sering diganggu oleh keluarganya yang memaksa dia jual colok dan lain-lain barangan sembahyang mereka... Itu yang buat Winnie tension dan dia tak selesa nak balik kampung... Dia lebih nyaman kekal berada di UKM ini dikelilingi saudara-saudaranya yang concern tentang imannya... Di UKM ni, ramai rupanya kafir yang telah kembali kepada Islam. Tapi AKAD yang tak terdedah... Insya ALLAH AKAD akan berjumpa dengan Syukri Yeoh, pensyarah muallaf di Fakulti Pengajian Islam UKM utk dapatkan gambaran yang lebih jelas dan cuba bantu dapatkan mereka ini bantuan zakat... Insya ALLAH, program tarbiyyah mereka terurus... Alhamdulillah... Ladzatnya buat dakwah ni... Satu naskah akad minta izin utk dimiliki sebab nak translate kepada bahasa Melayu. Ramai students AKAD yang kafir, mereka cenderung mendapatkan bahan bacaan yang berbahasa Melayu. Mereka sekolah, Malay medium majoritinya... Kalau AKAD nak beli buku tu, untuk edaran kepada non muslims (kalau dah exausted yang free punya), berapa harganya senaskah...? *** Ini dulu tulisan AKAD... tak pikir sangat pun... terus tulis aja... Umpama menjawab soalan objektif atau soalan yang ada jawapan a,b,c,d, atau e, yang pertama kali jawab itu biasanya yang betul... Tapi bila disemak semula sebelum dihantar ke hadapan, akan banyaklah yang dipadam dan ditandakan yang lain. Bismillah [hidayahnet] Peniaga sepatutnya diberi panduan naik harga barang
Kenaikan harga minyak sebanyak 30 sen seliter baru-baru ini sudah pasti memberi kesan langsung kepada semua harga barangan di pasaran. Ini adalah logik akal kerana semua barangan yang hendak dipasarkan memerlukan setidak-tidaknya kos pengangkutan yang berkait langsung dengan penggunaan minyak, samada petrol, diesel mahupun gas asli. Memberi amaran kepada para peniaga untuk tidak menaikkan harga barangan adalah merupakan satu tindakan yang tidak pro aktif dalam kita sama-sama menanggung beban kenaikan harga minyak baik daripada pihak pengguna, mahu pun pihak peniaga apatah lagi pihak kerajaan. Apa yang sepatutnya pihak Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna lakukan ialah menyediakan garis panduan kepada pelbagai sektor peruncitan dan perniagaan di negara ini untuk menaikkan harga barangan mereka mengikut kadar yang bergantung kepada berapa banyak barangan berkenaan bergantung secara langsung atau tidak langsung kepada minyak atau hasil sampingan minyak. Kenaikan harga minyak sebanyak 30 sen seliter adalah merupakan kenaikan sebanyak 18.6% daripada harga asal minyak. Dalam erti kata lain kenaikan apa barang sekali pun di Malaysia ini sepatutnya tidak boleh melebihi daripada 18.6% selepas kenaikan harga minyak sebanyak 30 sen seliter. Sebagai contohnya katakan harga ikan tenggiri sebelum kenaikan minyak ialah RM 18 ringgit sekilo. Maka harga ikan tenggiri selepas kenaikan minyak sebanyak 18.6% tadi tidak boleh melebihi RM 21.35 sekilo. Tapi adalah tidak logik harga ikan tenggiri adalah berkadar terus dengan kenaikan harga minyak. Katakan kos pengangkutan dalam perniagaan barangan basah adalah 50% daripada kos keseluruhan. Justeru itu harga ikan tenggiri sekilo sepatutnya dinaikkan 50% daripada 18.6% menjadikan harga ikan tenggiri yang sepatutnya selepas kenaikan harga minyak ialah RM 19.70. Malaysia mempunyai pakar-pakar ekonomi, pakar-pakar matematik, pakar-pakar perangkaan dan pakar-pakar teknologi maklumat. Justeru itu gunakanlah kepakaran mereka tadi untuk memberi garis panduan kepada pelbagai sektor perniagaan di Malaysia ini untuk menaikkan harga barangan mereka mengikut kadar yang sepatutnya. Daripada perniagaan kecil-kecilan hinggalah ke peringkat perniagaan besar-besaran, selaras dengan apa yang dislogankan iaitu untuk melahirkan Melayu Glokal. Berilah panduan kepada peniaga roti canai berapa harus mereka menaikkan harga roti canai mereka, berilah panduan kepada peniaga ikan berapa mereka harus menaikkan harga ikan mereka, berilah panduan kepada pengeluar simen berapa mereka harus menaikkan harga simen mereka. Kenaikan harga minyak hanya sekali untuk tahun ini sepatutnya memudahkan pihak kerajaan untuk mengeluarkan garis panduan tersebut. Bukan seperti kenaikan harga minyak yang sedikit tetapi kerap seperti tahun yang sebelumnya. Sekiranya garis panduan ini tidak diberikan sudah pasti apa yang akan berlaku ialah kesan domino , apabila ada pengeluar atau pemborong yang menekan butang panik kerana tidak tahu berapa hendak menaikkan harga barangan, mereka akan menaikkan harga barangan mengikut kadar mereka sendiri untuk mengelakkan kerugian memandangkan para pembekal sekeliling mereka telah menaikkan harga barangan. Yang pada akhirnya yang menanggung kerugian bukan hanya para peniaga yang kehilangan pelanggan, bukan hanya para pengguna yang semakin kosong poket mereka, bahkan kerajaan sendiri yang akan rugi dari segi kehilangan pendapatan daripada hasil cukai jualan. Adakah belanjawan negara sudah sampai ke tahap begitu kritikal sehingga beban ini dipindahkan pada kadar yang begitu tinggi dan mendadak kepada rakyat? Bukankah kita sebagai Negara pengeluar minyak bukan hanya menanggung kesan negatif tetapi juga kesan positif kenaikan harga minyak? Adakah rakyat cukup kuat dan mampu memikul beban pada kadar tersebut? 2. Adakah perbendaharaan dan belanjawan Negara tidak mampu menghadapi kenaikan harga minyak kerana perbelanjaan luar kawal atau kurang berhemah kita sebelum ini? Adakah ini termasuk proses membayar balik âhargaâ?segala projek-projek mega serta beberapa perbelanjaan kurang berhemah sebelum ini? Jika ini benar, bukankah pihak kerajaanlah yang lebih bertanggungjawab di atas keputusan-keputusan tersebut? Bukankah pihak kerajaanlah yang sepatutnya lebih banyak membayar âhargaâ?polisi kewangan yang diputuskan oleh kerajaan sendiri? 3. Rakyat bersedia dan telahpun beberapa kali tabah menerima kenaikan harga minyak akibat potongan subsidi baru-baru ini. Tetapi bukankah ada batas dan kadar yang munasabah yang patut ditanggung oleh rakyat? Kadar kenaikan yang begitu mendadak ini wajarkah terus ditanggung rakyat? Adakah pendapatan rakyat turut meningkat pada kadar yang sebanding dalam tempoh yang sama? 4. Antara alasan yang diberikan untuk memotong subsidi agar ianya dapat disalurkan kepada projek pembangunan dan meningkatkan sistem pengangkutan awam yang ada. Soalnya, bukankah kerajaan yang telah memilih polisi menggalakkan penggunaan dan pemilikan kereta individu selama ini? Termasuklah dengan mendokong kuat industri kereta nasional? Apakah sekarang kita betul-betul serius mahu mengutamakan pengangkutan awam? Jika betul itu sikap kita, sekali lagi wajarkah rakyat yang perlu menanggung beban perubahan dasar ini pada kadar yang terlalu tinggi? 5. Seperti sebelumnya kita dipujuk dengan perbandingan harga dengan beberapa Negara jiran. Soalnya, adakah situasi kita sama dengan mereka? Bukankah mereka lebih teruk terkesan oleh krisis kewangan berbanding kita? Bukankan kita lebih berjaya mengharusi krisis tersebut dan sepatutnya berada dalam kedudukan yang lebih baik? Di sudut lain, adakah rakyat mereka juga mendokong industri kereta nasional hingga menanggung harga kereta yang tinggi seperti kita? ABIM menggesa persoalan-persoalan asasi diatas mendapat tanggapan sewajarnya oleh semua pihak terutama pihak kerajaan. Jika hakikatnya di akhir segala perbahasan pro dan kontra isu ini, persoalan-persoalan ini tidak mendapat penjelasan yang benar-benar memuaskan, maka ABIM memohon agar keputusan menaikkan harga minyak yang diumumkan malam tadi dikaji semula. Walau bagaimanapun jika jika apa sebab sekalipun kenaikan ini tetap dikekalkan, ABIM menggesa agar adalah sangat perlu beberapa langkah tambahan diambil untuk mengawal kesan-kesan negatif kepada rakyat terbanyak. Selain daripada langkah kawalan harga barangan lain yang lebih ketat, ABIM juga mencadangkan agar suatu sistem subsidi harga khas diperkenalkan bagi kategori pengguna yang memerlukan. ABIM berpendapat dalam mengurus ekonomi Negara, kepentingan dan kebajikan rakyat terbanyak khususnya golongan berpendapatan rendah dan sederhana yang merupakan kelompok terbesar, perlu sentiasa diberi keutamaan dan diberatkan. GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba - After four years of secrecy, the Pentagon handed over documents Friday that contain the names of detainees held at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo. The release resulted from a victory by The Associated Press in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit. The Bush administration had hidden the identities, home countries and other information about the men, who were accused of taking up arms against the United States. But a federal judge rejected administration arguments that releasing the identities would violate the detainees' privacy and could endanger them and their families. The names were scattered throughout more than 5,000 pages of transcripts of hearings at Guantanamo Bay. The names were given only in the testimony when court officials referred to them by name in their remarks or when one detainee spoke of another detainee by name. The documents themselves released by the Pentagon did not identify each detainee who testified. In some cases, even having the name didn't clarify the identity. In one document, the tribunal president asks a detainee if his name is Jumma Jan. The detainee responds that no, his name instead is Zain Ul Abedin. Zahir Shah, an Afghan accused of being a member of an Islamic militant group and of having a grenade launcher and other weapons in his house, admitted to having rifles. He said it was for protection and insisted to the tribunal he did not fight U.S. troops. "The only thing I did in Afghanistan was farming. Other than that, I did not do anything else in the country," Shah said, according to the transcripts. The documents also contain the names of former prisoners, like Moazzam Begg and Feroz Abbasi, both British citizens. A handwritten note shows Abbasi pleading for prisoner-of-war status. The status of other named detainees, such as Naibullah Darwaish, was not immediately clear. Darwaish was described as having been the chief of police for the Shinkai district in Zabol Province, Afghanistan, when he was captured. Most of the men were captured during the 2001 U.S.-led war that drove the Taliban from power in Afghanistan and sent Osama bin Laden deeper into hiding. Most of the Guantanamo hearings were held to determine if the detainees were enemy combatants. That classification, Bush administration lawyers say, deprives the detainees of Geneva Convention prisoner-of-war protections and allows them to be held indefinitely without charges. Documents released last year also because of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by the AP had the detainees' names and nationalities blacked out. "Some folks don't want the names to be released for security and privacy reasons. Other folks think it should be open to the world to see," Army Maj. Jeffrey Weir, a Guantanamo spokesman, said Friday outside the kitchen where prisoners' food is prepared. The documents, transcripts from at least 317 hearings at Guantanamo Bay, should shed light on the scope of an insurgency still battling U.S. troops in Afghanistan, in part by detailing how Muslims from many countries wound up fighting alongside the Taliban there. U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff of New York ruled in favor of the AP last week, a major development in a protracted legal battle. Some current and former Guantanamo detainees remained unidentified, even after the release of the documents Friday. An unknown number of the named prisoners have been freed or transferred to custody elsewhere. The AP has also filed suit seeking a list of all detainees who are being held or have been held at the prison in eastern Cuba. One night I had worked hard to help a mother in the labor ward; but in spite of all we could do she died leaving us with a tiny premature baby and a crying two-year-old daughter. We would have difficulty keeping the baby alive, as we had no incubator. (We had no electricity to run an incubator.) We also had no special feeding facilities. Although we lived on the equator, nights were often chilly with treacherous drafts. One student midwife went for the box we had for such babies and the cotton wool the baby would be wrapped in. Another went to stoke up the fire and fill a hot water bottle. She came back shortly in distress to tell me that in filling the bottle, it had burst. Rubber perishes easily in tropical climates. And it is our last hot water bottle!" she exclaimed. It is no good crying over spilled milk, so in Central Africa it might be considered no good crying over burst water bottles. They do not grow on trees, and there are no drugstores down forest pathways. "All right," I said, "put the baby as near the fire as you safely can, and sleep between the baby and the door to keep it free from drafts. "Your job is to keep the baby warm." The following noon, as I did most days, I went to have prayers with any of the orphanage children who chose to gather with me. I gave the youngsters various suggestions of things to pray about and told them about the tiny baby. I explained our problem about keeping the baby warm enough, mentioning the hot water bottle. The baby could so easily die if it got chills. I also told them of the two-year-old sister, crying because her mother had died. During the prayer time, one ten-year-old girl, prayed with the usual blunt conciseness of our African children. "Please, Allah," she prayed, "send us a water bottle. It'll be no good tomorrow, Allah, as the baby will be dead, so please send it this afternoon." While I gasped inwardly at the audacity of the prayer, she added by way of a corollary, "And while You are about it, would You please send a dolly for the little girl so she'll know You really love her?" As often with children's prayers, I was put on the spot. Could I honestly say, "Ameen?" I just did not believe that Allah could do this. Oh, yes, I know that He can do everything. The Holy Quraan says so. But there are limits, aren't there? The only way Allah could answer would be for a package to arrive from the homeland. I had been in Africa for almost four years at that time, and I had never, ever received a parcel from home. Anyway, if anyone did send me a parcel, who would put in a hot water bottle? I lived on the equator! Halfway through the afternoon, while I was teaching in the nurses' training school, a message was sent that there was a car at my front door. By the time I reached home, the car had gone, but there, on the verandah, was a large twenty-two pound parcel. I felt tears pricking my eyes. I could not open the parcel alone, so I sent for the orphanage children. Together we pulled off the string, carefully undoing each knot. We folded the paper, taking care not to tear it unduly. Excitement was mounting . Some thirty or forty pairs of eyes were focused on the large cardboard box. From the top, I lifted out brightly colored, knitted cotton jerseys. Eyes sparkled as I gave them out. Then there were the knitted bandages for the leprosy patients, and the children looked a little bored. Then came a box of mixed raisins and sultanas- that would make a batch of buns for the weekend. Then, as I put my hand in again, I felt the...could it really be? I grasped it and pulled it out -- yes, a brand-new, rubber hot water bottle, I cried. I had not asked Allah to send it; I had not truly believed that He could.
