Dear colleagues

We purchased Ventana GX from Rosh for IHC

I reviewed the resent CAP check list 2013 for validation of IHC but I got
confused.

I am using ready to use prediluted antibodies from Ventana and I want to
validate the antibodies before use according to CAP requirements.

Can I have the validation plane and procedure for IHC antibodies.

RE: [Histonet] Clinical EM Labs?

2014-07-21 Thread Turner, Leandra

I definitely have to agree about the dying breed. Our hospital network closed
down our whole specialty lab which included EM. It was very sad day when I had
to turn off the scope for the last time.

I have some experiences in asking such type of general questions to Histonet
members and frequently the answers are few and far apart.
I think that you should prepare a very short questionnaire and give it out at
the next NSH meeting.
Perhaps the NSH could have some idea or the National Health Institute or the
National Academy of Sciences.
You are right when writing that EM labs are a dying breed. We used to be and
no longer are.

RE: [Histonet] Clinical EM Labs?

2014-07-21 Thread Cartun, Richard
We closed our EM laboratory many years ago after our Director passed away
unexpectedly and we could not find anyone to take his place. We now send all
of our medical and transplant kidney biopsies to Columbia in NYC for diagnosis
including EM. Other specimens (e.g., ciliary biopsies, heart biopsies for
amyloid, an occasional liver biopsy, etc.) are sent to Yale. Although we run a
large Anatomic Pathology operation there are very few specimens that require
EM. We no longer use EM for tumors and most infectious disease cases are
resolved with IHC. It's unfortunate (given our size) that we can no longer
provide these services on-site; however, I'm a firm believer of Centers of
Excellence and I think sending these specimens out to centers that are
performing EM on a daily basis is best for the patients that we serve.

[Histonet] HS IHC project

2014-07-21 Thread Patsy Ruegg
Friends,

I am going to help a local HS class (a Biotech class) do
a simple IHC project. This class already processes tissue, embeds,
sections and does an HE stain. My husband fixed up an old black AO
microtome for them to use and they actually cut sections. They cannot
use human tissue there so what they have available is mouse spleen
already ffpe. I was thinking of using a rab antibody that works on ffpe
ms spleen. Ki67 comes to mind? It has been a while since I was in the
lab so I am consulting with you all to make sure a rab poly or rab mono
Ki67 will indeed stain a ffpe ms spleen? If you have evidence of this
can you tell me which ab was used successfully. If you can think of a
better rab ab to use on the ffpe ms spleen for this project let me
know. It would help if we could keep it simple for antigen retrieval.

One of our kind vendors will be donating IHC reagents for this HS class project.

I hope the IHC meeting is going well in Vegas, wish I was there.

Cheers,
Patsy

I am so jealous of these kids. I didn't get near a microscope until
