Nancy, I would say that it can be done in a very particular situation: i.e.: no 
more tissue available, and type of IHC stain. If it is a dual stain, 
pathologist can not obtain the good results. In the lab I worked before, it was 
done, but this technique was not part of the protocol.

Regardless of the position of the tissue: control/ patient ‘s tissue, most 
likely is the  distribution of the reagents during staining, isn’t adequate. 
Syringe, staining  reagents expiration, calibration, etc.,   Have you contacted 
service from Leica? Hope the solution is found,

Toni, hope my 5 cents contribution will Help in deciding your future auto 
stainer. 
I have experience in Sakura units, 6 + years, and an old Leica unit, 10 + 
years. 
The most positive feature for the first unit is that once is giving the proper 
maintenance is that it works pretty well, the good advantage is that you can 
load in every oven, (coming with 2 oven dwells),  but if you overloaded it will 
delay your H staining. I think with other models is occurring the same 
results…
Other advantage now is that you can attach an automatic cover slipper. 
(Film cover slipped)…
It’s important to have at least 2 units for a big number of H slides…
I was working in a facility with at least 45 hundred H slides, no counting 
levels per protocols, recuts, etc., 
The only downside for all units, is that they cannot left without proper 
regular maintenance and service. 
At this moment you may have almost decided which unit serves your lab needs 
better.

Toni, the complete information can be found on the manufacturer specifications 
for these auto stainers. The only factor to be solved, no matter what 
instrument you will be selecting, is that you keep close monitoring of the 
service required for them. Important to be on the correct TAT. 
Other factors are influencing the good results as well,
