Re: [Histonet] Dragon

2021-02-10 Thread E. Wayne Johnson via Histonet

I use Nuance Dragon for making video scripts, transcribing audio stripped out
of video recordings, and for dictation of documents.
Until one gets it trained it will create very humourous mondegreens of
technical terms.
But you can add terms like thromboembolic meningoencephalitis and
extramedullary haematopoesis which it handles with glee.
It is very fast and it can go as fast as I can talk.
I have a very fine Shure desktop microphone and a Jabra headset.  The Jabra
headset sounds awful on audio recordings
but is great for dictations.  The Shure microphone sounds awesome but doesnt
match the Jabra headset for dictation speed and
accuracy.  The worst thing about Dragon is that it is Windows-based and they
dont have a Linux version and it doesnt run under Wine,
so I have to reboot my machine and start windows when i want to use it.

mModal is a 3M product.  3M medical is pretty stodgy and unfriendly and hard to
get along with.

Does anyone use Dragon while grossing? We are looking at switching to Dragon
and wanted some feedback for use in pathology.
Currently, we use M*Modal for dictations and then have transcriptionists type
all of the information in Cerner reports.
Thanks!!

I used it exclusively in GI lab for years and loved it but we only did small
biopsies, so it was super simple. We use it now throughout the system I work
in and there are a variety of opinions. Some of the PAs love it and some
really struggle. Same with the pathologists. So we live in dual worlds with
both Dragon and MModal. If you would like to contact me separately I am happy
to discuss! Thanks Cristi

We use Dragon with CoPath Plus and works great, you can make macros and I know
my PA have created some quick texts as well.  We actually stared with Kurzweil
in the 80's and expanded to Dragon speak.  the only time we do not use Dragon
is with Synoptic, although it works, it is labor intensive.

Hey everyone,

Just wondering who out there is successfully using Dragon within the AP
application of Cerner?

Does it work? Not work? Are you using templates in Dragon or Cerner?

You can PM me if you like. This is a peer benchmarking I would like to compare
what we do now to what other Cerner users are doing. I don't want to ask this
question in a Cerner forum where Cerner can control the commentary.

2014-09-26 Thread Keyser Gerald T
Voice to text cannot cope with doctors mumbling into recorders. Even the best
VRS only hits about 95% of the regular dictionary; which is very good. But, a
5% error rate is wildly unacceptable in a clinical environment.

Another parallel is trying to apply handwriting recognition software to a
physician penmanship. Would totally make the software divide by zero and have a
fit.

The work that can be done in histology-pathology is endless! I know that in
past positions that sometimes transcriptionists have felt threatened by voice
recognition dictation and software when it was suggested. I don't really blame
them for these feelings, but it never turned out the way they worried it might.

Machines or computer software never completely replace people, they don't
"think", make decisions or have judgment. The people just have to function at a
higher level or in an alternate way since the rudimentary processes for the
people are reduced .

I just set up Dragon dictation for the microscopic for the pathologists, but it
will be in Orchard Pathology, so could not help with the interface to your
system Ronnie. But it did not replace the information management function or
its oversight, just changed the tasks that needed to be performed somewhat, and
increased overall efficiency.

Judy, my company and I have been experimenting with Dragon since version 4.
The current version is 10.

The bottom line summary is Yes, it will work if you

1. put a lot of time in it, or
2. use a lot of macros/shortcuts/items of that nature.

When it works, it's pretty awesome. If you need more details, please let me
know. I'd be happy to share.
