Re: [Histonet] Slide Printer

2022-08-05 Thread Cooper, Brian via Histonet
Similar story here, except we went with SlideMates. Before AB&T LIS
integration, we were able to have CoPath print a barcode on our cassettes
(Leica IPC cassette printer). The SlideMate Field Service Reps were able to
translate that barcode info on the slide printers (which were still standalone
at that point). That barcode on the cassettes translated to a patient name and
accession number on each slide.

HEllo Histonetters,

We are a research lab that has been using the Leica IPC/IPS printed for many
years. Today the flash motor went out in the IPS. We are now looking into
updating the slide printer.

We are research only and NOT hooked into any LIS system. It would be a stand
alone process. Can some of you share what you have and the pros/cons?
I need to start the search for the replacement I would like.

Thank you in advance.

Hi All,

I am posting this for a friend. Any info would be appreciated.

Any way we are looking at several slide printer options and wondered the
following:

1) What are you using?

2) Did you first try any other vendors besides the one you are using now?

3) Do you like what you are using now?

4) Is it a one or two slide hopper - ie can you load and then select
charged or non-charged slides?

5) Are you using vendor specific recommended slides or have you
substituted for a cheaper or other option?

6) We are looking specifically at Leica, SlideMate and ESPO - do you have
any experience of info from other users you know about these vendors?

Any and all information you are able to share would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Karen,

We print an average of 150 blocks a day and 250+ slides a day. We have 2
cassette printers and 1 slide printer. We have had them for several years now.
They are Primera printers purchased from Creative Waste Solutions.
https://cwsincorp.com/ We have had excellent results with them both in
functionality and service. Also they can connect to your LIS if you want very

I really like it. You can use it as a stand-alone or connected to your APLIS.
It's compact and works very well. You can print your slides with a color band
across the top to distinguish different stains or types of tissue if you want
or add bar coding. I don't use bar coding yet so I can't say how well that
function works. The printing on the slides is very good. There hasn't been
any smudging or fading. There is a little bit of babysitting but not much.
Tech support is fast and reliable when needed.
If I can answer any other questions feel free to get in touch with me.

RE: [Histonet] SLIDE PRINTER

2009-07-29 Thread Michael Mihalik
I guess I'm confused. If pricing is an issue, why not go with a Zebra
printer that prints labels. I wholeheartedly agree that printing directly
on slides is a preferred solution, but the up front cost is a killer. I
wouldn't blame a lab for going with slide LABELS.

Frankly, if it was me, I'd save the money on this printer and put it towards
a cassette labeler.

If money is not an issue, then I'd get both.

P.S. ..and you guys are getting me nervous. This is the second person that
I've heard that has 'returned a printer'.

BUT...I have a small lab and can't justify a more expensive printer so
we purchased this printer - in fact we probably purchased the last one
that AccuPlace sold before Thermo got it.
I like it a lot and even though we have returned a couple of them we
have no complaints. It does a nice job. We were lucky to get it at the
AccuPlace price.

RE: [Histonet] SLIDE PRINTER

2009-07-29 Thread Laurie Colbert
We have two units that we bought from Accuplace when it was called the
PSLIM. We had a fair amount of problems with them and I was ready to
return them, but Accuplace sent someone out to service them, and they
are working really well. I've heard that when Fisher took over the
slide printer, they "revamped" it, so that it would have less problems.
We have the Thermo Fisher Printmate cassette labeler, and we have a 2D
barcode print on the cassette. The PSLIM (Slide Mate) reads the barcode
and prints out the number of slides that we tell it to. We have it
programmed very simply right now, but it is flexible and you are able to
have it print various ways. I love it!
