[Histonet] test cost

2015-10-29 Thread Terri Braud via Histonet
Do these steps in order:

Take the total cost of your supplies + total hours salary average, for set
period (usually use 6 months), and then divide by the number of blocks for a
cost per block (ie. 0.80/block)
Do the same for slides to arrive at a cost per slide. (ie. 1.25/stained slide)
Calculate the average costs of a block and slide by taking the average (cost of
block + cost of slide, then divide by 2 = average cost per block/slide
Calculate the range of blocks per surg level during that same time period
(ie. Lev V ranges from lowest 1blk, to highest 15blks)
Calculate the range of test cost per surg level by (lowest block # X average
cost per block/slide) = lowest cost, bottom of range
Calculate the range of test cost per surg level by (highest block # X average
cost per block/slide) = highest cost, top of range
Show the math. Give them the range and average for each level.

Add a paragraph explaining added costs of reference lab work, special stains,
and other charges (CPT codes) that could be incurred in order to report out a
case.
Sometimes it is very difficult for administrators to understand how one CPT
code may cost $5.80 or $25.00 depending on varying factors such as source of
specimen or pathologist, and what is average for you, may not be average for
another lab with different pathologists or cutting protocols.
Keep it short and sweet!

I have been asked to identify test houses in the USA that we can use to
outsource some of our histology studies.
We will be using human tissue (dermis, tendon, meniscus and heart valves) and
require H&E, DAPI, Picrosirius Red and Russell Movat Pentachrome staining. We
would require the lab to have all the appropriate licencing, and prefer the
lab to be GLP compliant.
If you work in, or know of a suitable lab then please drop me a private message
(to avoid clogging up Histonet) and I'll get back to you with more specifics.

Many thanks

Andrew

Cornelia:
After a "deadly" fixation, followed by a complete dehydration, clearing and
paraffin wax infiltration, the only potentially surviving "entities" are prions.
No cell will be viable after this treatment and if you get some positive
results of viability with what ever test you use, I caution to believe those
results.
Your research director evidently is absolutely ignorant about tissue processing!

Histonetter's: For anyone planning to attend the Region II SympoiumI
wanted to give you a quick reminder that Monday May 10th, 2010 is the
final day to get the discounted room rate at the Clarion Hotel for the
Region II.. If you need information on the meeting you can find it
through the NJ Society or any state society in the region ( DE, MD, PA,
NJ, VA, W.VA amd District of Columbia)...and also NSH. The vendors
attending will be many, and this will present a rare opportunity to get
thos needed CEUs and network as well. Check out the program...make your
selections...but, hurry on those discounted room ratestime is
running out for that one!

As the Region Director, I look forward to touching base with you all on
the questions and suggestions you have for our Region! See you soon!

After years of working to get away from the use of Formalin in our lab, it
seems as though we are going to be bringing it back. I'm seeking advice
concerning what everyone is using to neutralize their formalin prior to
disposal. Any recommendations welcome! Thanks in advance! Laura

Don't dispose of it... Recycle it. Creative Waste Solutions has a nice
"Green" recycler for smaller labs, but we're using the BR Instrument for
our lab. I never imagined that we would recycle our formalin, but when
we tried out the BR, I was very impressed. We've saved so much by not
having to constantly purchase formalin and our surgery department has
quit ordering it as well. Since we have much more recycled than we can
use, surgery now gets their formalin from us.

If you can't get a recycler, we used to use D'Formalizer from Surgipath
to neutralize our formalin.

Good luck,

Karen

Some of my recent posts to the Histonet Listserver have bee garbled, although
other emails that I send are OK. These few lines are sent as rich (HTML) text
(HTML) to see if they look OK when distributed to the List.

This is a second paragraph.
