RE: [hlcoders] what a bloody n00b

2001-12-26 Thread Pat Magnan

If you're Adobe, feel free to invoke the DMCA and call in the FBI, if
you're anyone else, no, because copyright infringement is civil law
isn't it?? ;) (little sarcasm there).

I don't know honestly think that the police are concerned with
copyright infringement, however, it would appear from other bidders
that this little schmuck is actually comitting mail fraud (not making
good on things he's supposedly selling -- My parents wouldn't let me
buy/sell it). I'm not sure what position that the US courts have taken
on this kind of stuff (i.e. is it really mail fraud - I'm pretty sure),
and the other thing with fraud that I can vouch for from personal
experience is that no one really goes into small cases (got ripped
buying a Magic card a number of years ago in a newsgroup auction), no
one cared.

Better to report the little puke to EBay (selling someone else's
software illegally has to be against their rules), and let them handle
it. It also seems he's under age (no contract in Candian law is
enforceable against a minor, and I believe that the US would have a
similar consideration), so EBay may be interested to learn that.

We could always make a number of complaints to them, and let them
handle it. ;)

RE: [hlcoders] VALVe: GMAX?

2001-12-26 Thread Kevin Navia

its
not only for mapping my friend, also modelling as wel, gmax is better
suited as modelling program afterall, with a free tool very accessible to
ppl who doesnt own max and having cool animation capabilities and behave
almost similar to max, well gmax is the TOOL to use for budget lipped
modders. (and it might help them get ported to the pro
stuff)

I'm curious as to why Valve (who
own Worldcraft now), would spend money and time making a *new* mapping plugin
for a 3rd party piece of software, when Worldcraft is already out here, and
  doing the job fantasticly.

I'm actually far
more interested in the mapping "capabilities" of gmax.  I already have
a nice legal version of max thanks to my college's bookstore.  However,
I find that doing complex architectural stuff in a map is difficult.
(For example, making a statue is a pain in the butt.)  A modeling
program is far better suited for stuff like this.  Complex
objects are much more difficult to construct in Worldcraft.  Often
a model is the only way to deal with this.  And then you have to use
work-arounds like putting in clip brushes where the model is.  If gmax
were set up to make prefabs, that'd be great.  WC is more than
sufficient for everything else.

Considering that hundreds, probably thousands of people get along without custom binding every peripheral in their possession to control a game, I think I'm safe in saying that you don't need to bind anything extra than the defaults. If it isn't working at all for you, say screw it and just play the game. Its about the game, not a contest to see who can have the most insane binds. Also to add onto what Tom said, if you set a button on your mouse to a function that isn't used in the game by default, you can just bind to that function instead of the button itself. I bound my mouse4 to F12, and it works as my comm button for roger wilco. To get the Rho-Bot to work with MingW32, I needed to link to the stdc++ library. Maybe
you need to include an -lstdc++ to the mp.dll portion of the make file.

I'm with tom in that it can get more confusing trying to
remember what you had a button (or key) bound to when you have more keys
to deal with. Considering that hundreds, probably thousands of people get
along without custom binding every peripheral in their possession to
control a game, I think I'm safe in saying that you don't need to bind
anything extra than the defaults. If it isn't working at all for you, say
screw it and just play the game. Its about the game, not a contest to see
who can have the most insane binds. Also to add onto what Tom said, if you
set a button on your mouse to a function that isn't used in the game by
default, you can just bind to that function instead of the button itself.
I bound my mouse4 to F12, and it works as my comm button for roger wilco.
A whole lot easier than trying to hit F12 while playing the game, I'll
tell ya that much =)If you can't get it working by now, get someone on
your computer who can get it working, or it would probably be best to just
  leave it as it is.--lemingAt 15:31 12/25/2001 +, you

go check that out... i find it extremely lame.
I remember a post a while back on phl on how someone was selling hacks on
ebay so i thought i'd see if the trend is still there... well only one
guy.

What i find worse is he is selling on a cd
update patches to something not owned by him. This is what he is listed as
selling
Counter-strike full version
installation 1.1

Counter-strike updates to 1.3 (current)
Half-life update to 1.1.0.7
Half-life update to 1.1.0.8(current)
Maps you get(very popular): AWP_MAP, AWP_MAP2, SCOUT_MAP, HE_TENNIS
Wally texture editor (edit textures in the game)
Half-life logo creater (spray paint a picture on the walls in
Counterstrike, w/ any picture you have on your computer)
OGC CHEAT(current version)
OGC PUNKBUSTER HACK(bypasses punkbuster servers even if you have OGC
CHEAT!)

Now is it just me or is selling valve owned programs
and update patches not only wrong but illegal? i'd really like to see this
dork punished. So feel free to spam him with emails detailing how big a dork
he is.. and for doing the biggest injustice of it all trying to extend
the already huge cheating problem in online
  games.
