it wouldn't be so bad if it were used wisely. Putting it in there a
few weeks ahead of time so that we could preload the stuff that has
been finalized so that the final download would be relatively small is
a good idea. But having it in there for months and months for no
reason makes no sense.

2005-08-16 Thread Shawn Zipay

It's possible that when it was put in they felt it would be released
soon enough. It was added to Coming Soon before they had decided to
completely redo everything instead of just porting it up. Removing the
icon at that point would have probably been worse with people freaking
out and saying it doesn't exist (more than people are doing now I guess
it'd be).

Re: [hlds] Coming Soon BS...

2005-08-16 Thread Shawn Zipay

I'm holding out more hope for Fortress-Forever at this point if we want
any semblance of a TFC: Source. Granted the FF people are making minor
changes, the core gameplay is promised to remain. In that I still play
the original TFC, I'm definitely looking forward to anything either
Valve or the FF crew can get out to us.

stalker333 wrote:

Ruiner,

Thank you for pointing that out, I started playing TFC and still do,
would LOVE to see a TFC port. However, valve has pretty much poo pooed
all over that idea, in favor of TF2. Which is fine with me, at least
they don't CLAIM we'll get TFC:S. Though they never said we wouldnt
get TFC:S either, if I remember right. That's not the case with DOD:S.

Funny thing about all this is, part of the reason (small part, but
still) that I started playing DOD more often, was I thought it would
get better support than TFC. It does, I mean, at least DOD:S is coming
at some point, but here I am still looking at coming soon.

Meanwhile CS:S is being updated every other week. That, as penn and
teller would say, is BULLSHIT.

I had something similar happen to me once but mani was not involved.
Someone who had just connected to the server (not even in the game

[hlds] SRCDS Mod Wanted

2005-08-16 Thread Whisper

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Wanted
 Mod that does the following:
*1.* Takes Care of Team Attacking/Killing
*2.* Will limit the allowed range of values for rate cl_cmdrate
cl_updaterate cl_interp
Those are the only 2 things we need:
A little rcon or text spammer would be nice but not neccessary.
Are there simple SRCDS mods out there that only do this without inflicting
upon me and my users 1000 other options we do not want or need?
 Thanks

RE: [hlds] Half Life server problems

2005-08-16 Thread Alexander Kobbevik
I don't see any point at all hiding your external ip.
Why you have a firewall is to protect and hide infrastructure on the INSIDE.

And if you list your server ip maybe someone can try to connect and help
out.

As long as your router doesn't have a loop-back, you have to connect to your
internal IP adress.

http://showmyip.com/ check that you have the correct ip.

You don't have to forwards ports manually if you have set your computer as a
DMZ in the router. But you do have to open the ports in the firewall if it
doesn't open that automatically. Some do, some don't.

Your dedicated server will show its IP adress, not the IP of your router.
People on the inside will still be able to connect to the internal server if
you have forwarded the port correctly or set up DMZ to your server.

I hope some of this helps for now.
Maybe some pro's will help you out later, and correct me if im wrong.

I'm having severe problems with my server, listen or dedicated. For my
listen server, my listenserver.cfg is as follows.

ip [external ip hidden]
port 27015
sv_region 0
sv_lan 0

// Execute the Admin Mod configuration file
exec addons/adminmod/config/adminmod.cfg

and is placed in D:\Program
Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\lordtalon\counter-strike\cstrike

Whenever I run a listen server, my server does not show up on the master
server list and X-Fire lists the ip of the server I'm currently in as

69.28.148.250:27014

My connection runs through a router which I have forwarded port 27015 to
myself and also added my computer as a DMZ host. The following was taken
from the console in my listen server

] ip
ip is [external ip hidden]
] sv_lan
sv_lan is 0
] sv_region
sv_region is 0
] port
port is 27015

I do not understand why my server is not showing up on the master server
list nor why x-fire lists my ip incorrectly.

On my dedicated server, my ip is listed as my private ip and not my
external. Nor could I find a .cfg to modify within my
lordtalon/dedicated server folder. My question is why is my server not
reaching the main primary server and if I add my server as a favorite ie
[external ip hidden]:27015 to my favorites list, it shows non responsive
for either situation while my priavte ip ex: 192.168.1.102:27015 shows
the server. The authentication has passed within steam and it says it's
Connection to Steam Servers Sucessful when I type manually the sv_lan 0
command.

Any help is much appreciated, thank you

And just run down the mani_server.cfg and turn off the bits you don't

as I think that is far better than any of the 'fun' features.

Re: [hlds] SRCDS Mod Wanted

2005-08-16 Thread Brian M Frain
Mattie's event scripts http://mattie.info/cs/ is a great plug in that
can do what you require and a lot more. I use it in conjunction with
beetlesmod and together they can handle nearly everything. Beetles
http://www.beetlesmod.com/forums/ has a great feature (not sure about
manny's don't use it) where you can give anyone who shoots a team mate
a set amount of damage within a set time after freeze/buy. I have mine
set to give 100 damage to anyone who shoots another 4 seconds after
buy time and it is funny as hell when you see one of those guys come
in and try to tk everybody only to die themselves. Usually they are
only able to do about 20 damage which still sucks but isn't bad. There
are also settings to mirror damage to the ff offender after so many
instances of shooting team mates.
There is a great script someone wrote for Mattie's that will bring up
a menu asking a rate offender to change their settings or leave.

The only down side is the two big admin tools manny's and beetle's are
becoming so bloated it takes longer to disable features than to turn
on what you want. With Mattie's you just add what you want or write it
yourself, it is a very nice and versatile tool.

Hope that helps.

Re: [hlds] Possible hack

2005-08-16 Thread James Tucker

correction here, hlstats and hlstatsx do not REQUIRE rcon for stats.

The UDP stats capture system (hlstats.pl) does not require rcon to
collect data. You can enter the rcon command into the server box and
this will allow the live view connection to work, which uses RCON
through php.

cheers,

raggi.

Re: [hlds] Possible hack

2005-08-16 Thread James Tucker

It is however the case that on most webhosts, if you store the rcon
password in the database and all of the install files in your web
folders, that any other user on the system can read your database
details, and then next read out the rcon password. For more information
on this google on apache vhosts and mysql passwords - it's a VERY common
problem.

Next, are you sure that your HSP are not repsonsible? Are the boxes
otherwise secured?

You can disable it, as Mani has it's own section dedicated to rcon commands
that are allowed to run. A few stats packages require rcon though, most notably

When you run mods like mani, can't you just disable RCON?
Or does it need to be there?

I had something similar happen to me once but mani was not involved.
Someone who had just connected to the server (not even in the game
yet) managed to hack the quite complex rcon password and start
spamming dozens of lines of hahahahahahaha as console chat all
within one second. When I noticed this in the logs the next day (some
other event caused me to look through my logs and I came across this),
I changed the rcon password and I haven't noticed it since. This was
like 4 months ago.

server. I join and all is going well so I leave, then check HLSW and
someone is talking as Console. I take a quick snapshot of all the
Steam ID's involved plow into the logs. Cannot tell what is going
on. People are asking the Console for Admin there are none on the
box! Looks like a map was changed without a vote. I'm lost. I did ban
one guy that caught my eye and nothing has happened for a little while
but we'll see.

There are only 3 admins, none with RCON password but me none of them
were playing.

Just me or anyone else getting this? Maybe a new hack out there?

Oh, and it is a VAC2 secure server.

Here are a few things that I've heard about but seen little or no
action being placed for such.

1. Team Fortress Classic 2.People even pre-ordered their copies of the
game
2. Half-Life 2 Lost Coast...so its on the soon to come list...I'll
believe it when I see it.
3. Half-Life 2: Aftermath. Heard about this game via www.megagames.com
said it'd be released along with the X-bug 360
4. DoD:Source Again, I've seent this game on the Soon to come list for
decadescan you not create a game?

If valve will EVER actually produce a game properly and give a release
date rather then just farting around, perhaps we'd be more itnersted.
Give us a multi-player demo or something phyiscal. Screenshots only go
so far. Come 3 years we'll all be saying, Hey man, can you wait for doom
5? The graphics engine is amazing. And we'll reply, Nah I'm still
waiting for Day of Defeat Source. Now is the time for valve to rise up
and actually get some work done. Give us a game that some of us ordered
and do it in a timely fashion. Is that so much to ask?

Wasn't all this just covered in another thread?Maybe I'm mistaken.I
dunno just a hunch.

going through any new logs very carefully untill I know what is going

That and the people I play with enjoy seeing their rank on a web page up

Should maybe convert to Psychostats then.
It runs smoothly now that they started to use a database for saving the
data.
Who needs live stats anyways. Every 30 mins/1 hour should do good.

correction here, hlstats and hlstatsx do not REQUIRE rcon for stats.

The UDP stats capture system (hlstats.pl) does not require rcon to
collect data. You can enter the rcon command into the server box and
this will allow the live view connection to work, which uses RCON
through php.

cheers,

raggi.

[hlds] Client crash at verifying resources

2005-08-16 Thread David
Had a couple of complaints of people not being able to download custom
content from my server. Some can, some cannot. Myself included. The
client crashes at verifying resources and returns to desktop with no error.

A bit of investigation has led to me finding out that it does not happen
with everyone. When it does occur with a client, it only occurs on VAC2
servers and not VAC1 servers that have not updated. It also only occurs if
custom content is missing and would normally be downloaded to you.

The only things new are the steam updates of the last 2 weeks (server
currently running: v1.1.2.5/Stdio 3213 secure and my own pc having internet
explorer 7 installed. I did wonder if ie7 could cause the problem.
Although there are reports of the same problem at the steam forums, the
numbers are relatively low. But then it only happens on VAC2 servers and
not VAC1.

I don't fancy a re-install just yet so any suggestions would be helpful.

Re: [hlds] Client crash at verifying resources

I doubt this will help, but this is our case:

Our server is using VAC1.

Same this as you describe is happening to about 100
peeps. This is what fixed our 100 issues. Let Steam
update 100%. Most peeps just connect and play. Steam
will work at 80-97% of updating. As soon as we allowed
the clients to update 100%, what is described below
was fixed for US.

[hlds] SV_DownloadURL

2005-08-16 Thread Jim
This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
I recently decided to check my sv_downloadurl and noticed two things happening.

If I removed the .BSP map from the Server (Webserver) the map with the
.BSP.BZ2, downloaded but then reported the Map.bsp was missing. When I went
back and reviewed the client it was evendent the Map.BSP.BZ2 althou sucessfully
downloaded did not go into the client directory for MAPS.

So Second test. I loaded up the Map.BSP and the MAP.BSP.BZ2 on the Web Server.
I notced that both downloaded. The Map.BSP was there in the client Directory.
Almost seemed like putting the .BZ2 on the HTTP Server was serving no pupose.

Is anyone else seeing this happen and how to stop the double download and only
download the compressed file.
