RE: [hlds] A curious problem of connection to a dedicated server
Things to test with (in order, top to bottom): All between you and your friend. - ping (GET IT WORKING!) - tracert (this should show where any routing issues lie) - telnet (to an open TCP port, e.g. 3389 for remote desktop) - hlsw or similar for UDP testing to server port If all of the above succeed it's a software issue, if they fail, it's somewhere in networking. I hope you can figure out the rest, but feel free to ask more later. :) bonsoir > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: 02 November 2005 21:55 > To: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com > Subject: [hlds] A curious problem of connection to a dedicated server > > Hi everyboby. Re: [hlds] 100 mb port
100 players might use as much as 5Mb or so. Your observation of 6-10% is very reasonable. A 100Mb connection doesn't even break into a sweat with this kind of traffic. This is not the source of your lag. How much bandwidth do you have? Real bandwidth determined by conducting bandwidth tests, not some theoretical maximum? RE: [hlds] A curious problem of connection to a dedicated server
You could try one other thing, you could try forcing what would be a local connection to the 82.236.140.x subnet, you could force it through the gateway. start\run: cmd Route add 82.236.140.Friend mask 255.255.255.255 82.236.140.254 Route print Should now show that traffic to that address will be sent to the gateway and not directly to the system via the local interface. I'm gonna guess that it's possible that your provider only permits traffic to pass out of your DSLAM (ie only access the gateway address) as some sorta protection, or it maybe a limitation of thier setup. Seriously just call them and confirm this with level 2 or 3 support, the first person you talk too will be clueless on the topic, so let them know early you need a real tech. The problem is : - Everybody except this friend can connect to the server. - This friend can connect to every server except my server. - The server seems ok, since it can allow 10 players without any lag. - If I create a server with ou without amxmod does not change everything. - If I create a listen server on the same computer this does not change everything. - all the ports have been opened in client and server. - If I create a listen server on a other computer at my home (with the proper change of the port forwarding) this does not change anything. - If my friend change its router setting from modem to modem+router, the connection failed in two case. In a case, the progression stopped during the "connecting server", in the other case during the "precaching ressource". In all case this finish with a timeout, and changing sv_timeout or fs_lazy_precache does not change anything. - Changing routers in dwz does not change erveything. - The only thing that distinguish my friend and me compared to the rest of internet, is that we are neigbours, with the same internet provider ( a french internet ADSL provider named "free"), and connect on the same DSLAM : our adress differs very fee 82.236.140.45 and 82.236.140.172, with a gateway at 82.236.140.254. I suspect that this last point is responsible of our problem, but how to test it ? -the problem is symetrical : if my friend create a server, everybody can connect on its server except myself. Since I am french it may be difficult to understand if you reply with a lot of abbreviations, and sorry for my naive english. thanx for help ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds
Re: [hlds] changing the port
How are you connected to the Internet? If your machines IP address is 192.168.xxx.xxx, then you are behind a router. It's only a question of where the router is, and is quite likely built into your modem. What kind of Internet connection do you have, what kind of Modem do you have? To answer your question, the -port 27035 goes on the command line you use to start your server. If you have a shortcut on your desktop, then edit the shortcut and add it to the end of the target field, so you have something like this: hlds.exe -game cstrike -port 27035 - Original Message - From: "Justin" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Wednesday, November 02, 2005 12:48 PM Subject: Re: [hlds] changing the port -- -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] i dont have a roughter but were to i put -port 27035 ---Original Message--- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: 11/01/05 11:03:00 To: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com Subject: Re: [hlds] changing the port And forward the port from your router to the box running the server. [hlds] RE: hlds digest, Vol 1 #4147 - 7 msgs
I have a question for Alfred or someone very knowledgeable; I have some Steam servers running on port 27020 on some of my machines and often-times I will look in TCPView or some similar software and see that a SRCDS server running on another port (ie. 27015, 27025, 27045, whatever) has taken over the 27020 port and from then on, the server running on 27020 stops and/or cannot start. Any ideas why a server would take this port over? Only the SRCDS servers do it, not HLDS servers. And it's always port 27020. I had to use the -sport variable to start my HLDS servers to avoid this but there is no such thing for SRCDS... Any help would be appreciated. Re: [hlds] dedicated server optimization
No, it did it for me when I was using Beetlesmod as well. I've read in the Steampowered forums that it's more of a problem with servers that have more players. So a 32 player server is going to exhibit this behavior more often than a 24 player server. Mani isn't to blame about everything. [hlds] dedicated server optimization
This is a multi-part message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] dear valve, is there any way we could get your attention pointed to the errors in console that say "free sound list is full" i know the message may be harmless, but i see it like 100 times a minute in the console of the dedicated server. It seems that without this error that would be a little more cpu freed up for the game. this error has been going on for some time and has gotten totally annoying. -- ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds
