The servers can get crazy but that craziness brings a whole new
gameplay, why erode diversity from the games, just like the custom maps
post earlier today. Does everyone forget what valves multiplayer is
based on, originally custom mods.

I wish to install the dedicated Windows XP TF2 server strictly for LAN play.
The following is the shortcut target line I used with the update tool to set

C:\SRCDS\Updater\HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game hl2mp -dir
C:\SRCDS

I created the Updater folder in my SRCDS directory to store update

modify this target line to optimally install the TF2 server? I'm a little

because of the new engine used in TF2. Thanks for your help.

I would recommend that you make a totally isolated install for TF:

-dir C:\SRCDS_TF

Although the stock mods will be migrated over eventually, for now and
through the beta test period you will want to be able to run one or the
other so best to keep them separate.

When installing tf2 just isolate the parent directory with the updatertool ie:
c:\srcds. TF2 will create its own sub directory within the parent ie:
c:\srcds\orangebox. Your install afterward would resemble:

orangebox\tf
orangebox\bin
orangebox\hl2
orangebox\platform

Tf2 will use some shared files from c:\srcds\hl2. Till the other mods are
ported over there is no way around it.

RE: [hlds] TF2 ... All 32 player servers filtered out?

2007-10-10 Thread Mike Munoz
OUCH!!...
To actually go so far as to modify the server browser so that it won't list
32 slot TF2 servers! Never mind fixing the issues the server browser has,
with various servers not displaying for whatever reasons. They chose to take
away our choices. To run as many slots as we see fit, with the settings we
see fit for our community. To the best of my knowledge without any
notification or explanation.

First FF, now this...

All it would have taken was another filter option on the client side to
select how many player slots you want display. A useful feature for any mod.

Do it in ranges: 1 - 10, 11 - 16, 18 - 24, 25 - 32 Or do it using or any
number. An option to filter on a number of players actually playing on
servers, rather than just not empty.

Any thoughts on this?

LET THE PLAYERS AND ADMINS DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES!!! YOUR MAPS WON'T BE THE
ONLY MAPS FOR TF2 (or will they? Still no fgd...)

I have been hosting only Valve related servers for so many years now, since
at least 2000, (WonID anyone?) that this last blow is hitting me really
hard. My small community was originally based on CS. Since then we have
branched out to other mods such as: CS:S, DOD:S, Gmod 10, Dystopia, Eternal
Silence and now TF2. These are just the mods we liked enough to put up
servers for. We currently run 18 servers and 3 HLTV servers. The love of
doing this for the community is the only thing keeping me from shutting them
all down right now. I am still on the fence about keeping our TF2 server up.

I pay for the bandwidth and hardware out of my own pocket, I have never
asked for nor taken anything from anyone to help pay for this. It truly is
something I love to do. Or at least I used to...

P.S. I do not use the modified server.dll I use the plugin. Thanks Tony,
works great!

So today I will post a vote in my forums, to see if TF2 survives or not in
our little community.

Yours, Truly disappointed,

Mike ParaDOX Munoz

Removing the option for people to decide how many people they would
like to play with sucks...

The way in which it has been implented sucks even more.. updating the
server browser list not actually borthering to tell us even after
the update. We aren't really asking too much to be informed.

We have spread across from running 1 css server, to 3 x css servers
1 x tf2 we have coped with previous updates which killed our traffic
in css, rebuilt moved forward. Please don't make us leap through
hoops, we just want to play the games enjoy them. We have liked
every tf2 update so far apart from this one as it removes choice.
Please return the choice to the players, if they didn't like it they
would not come play putting our tf2 server in the top100 ranked on
game monitor. It would be nice if we could filter by players.. for
instance I would like to be able to select to see 24 -32 man servers
only, this would also be nice for other games like css too.

Re: [hlds] TF2 ... All 32 player servers filtered out?

2007-10-10 Thread Kevin Ottalini

I think the issue here is this is a brand new mod (officially only HOURS
old!) and the user experience needs to be uniform and unpatched as much as
possible so Valve can calibrate the new engine before porting over all the
other mods.

Remember that the stats tracking system is brand new as well and hacking the
maps and servers will throw off the baseline for stats, in some cases
dramatically.

Once the engine's behavior and quirks have been thoroughly hashed out, THEN
is the time for allowing modifications like this but most certainly NOT by
server admins hex editing server binaries.

The developers at Valve had very good reasons to set the max number of
players at 24, let's give them the a little credit and consideration here
ok?

In addition, one of the maps tc_hydro has potentially too many base entities
for 32 players and could cause servers and clients to crash (but it seems ok
with 24 players but might be right at the borderline).

maps and servers will throw off the baseline for stats, in some cases
dramatically.

 OUCH!!...
To actually go so far as to modify the server browser so that it won't
 list 32 slot TF2 servers!
