Sometime early this morning this fellow:
  http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198005902725
crashed one of my servers and bragged about it, since his buddy:
  http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197995252712
was banned for speedhacking. He rejoined, presumably to crash the
  server
again, and was instantly banned for connecting as 'unconnected'.

Log files just end, no crash dump. I was asleep, so i didn't
  get a
chance to check the console. I've turned on much more logging and
console dumping, so if it happens again i'll track it down. If
  anyone
knows of this exploit, send me a email and i can work on a block
  plugin.

It was not the rcon exploit, i have a block in place for that.

Re: [hlds] Issue with July 09 Killing Floor Update

2009-07-10 Thread Saul Rennison
Hey Dayle,

I'm just wondering what your issue is with not forcing server updates? I,
and I'm sure many other server administrators, will sacrifise a few minutes
just so then they can have a more stable, up-to-date server. Optional
updates are bad for the clients connecting to the server, for example, if an
update fixes a few exploits, some clients can come on and damage the
experiance for the other players on the server, just because the server
administrator is too lazy to update.

My two cents ;)

Re: [hlds] Issue with July 09 Killing Floor Update

2009-07-10 Thread John Gibson
Saul,

Any time that we have major changes we'll always force an update. But
sometimes we'll have minor changes that we don't think merit a forced
update. For instance, if we update the map white list to add more
custom maps which allow perk earning.

Some admins that run a lot of custom maps will want to grab an update
like that two times a week. But other admins won't. So in cases like
that we feel it's best to give the server admins the choice.

Additionally, updating all servers can be disruptive for the players
since the game servers will go down/be incompatible with the client
until they are updated again.

Cheers,

John

Re: [hlds] Issue with July 09 Killing Floor Update

2009-07-10 Thread Dayle Flowers
Hey Guys,

We have fixed up our update from yesterday and it is now available via
the hldsupdatetool. Here is the original text from John's post
yesterday, as it still applies:

A non required update for Killing Floor has been released for both
Windows and Linux dedicated servers. This update fixes an issue with
perks sometimes not being accumulated on whitelisted maps, and sometimes
accumulating on non-whitelisted maps. Additionally, the update adds many
more custom maps to the whitelist of maps which will allow perk earning.
This update is automatically applied for clients.
