RE: [hlds] Stats for HL1DM Source

2006-08-31 Thread Doug Crabtree
Why?!?!?!?!?!

From HL1 to Source, Valve's games have always been stats friendly. Unlike
Fear or Quake 4/Doom 3, they allow programs to parse and collect data. Why
would they go this way?

Shame

Ooks, it looks like the log files don't have weapon information in them, I
just checked both server and client and the logs only say that someone
killed someone not what they were killed with (it does log suicides though
... but it says with player ... odd!).

This will make it a bit hard for stats programs I think.

I'll go ahead and ask the obvious. Do you have the weapons set up as they
would appear in the console during play?

If so, could you send me a server log (direct e-mail) so I can compare it to

RE: [hlds] Stats for HL1DM Source

2006-08-30 Thread Doug Crabtree
I agree with your assessment. But the realtime beats ps any day of the
week. The things I don't like about HLStatsX I change. I just added a
skill decay based on inactivity, and took out all the Headshot info (HL2DM)
and made our hlstats.php allow the sig command just like the premium site.

I like the flexibility of both, but the realtime, again, beats the log
shipping method IMHO.

You might look at pyschostats (www.pyschostats.com)

Neither pyschostats or hlstatx are particularly easy to set up - complicated
by the need to setup and configure: PHP, GD2 (for graphics), Perl, MySQL and
your web server of choice. Not for the faint of heart. HlstatsX requires
an older version of MySql and more recent versions break some of its
queries. Installation documentation is not entirely crystal clear for
either - but IMO marginally better for ps - perhaps because it is a bit less
complicated to install.

Of the two developers, it seems to me that psychostats is the more active -
with work now underway for ps3.

I run HlstatsX to be fair - I like the real-time updating, which is lacking
in ps. It took me a LOT of hours to get it working and figure out the
things that the documentation didn't quite explain. I would dread having to
do it again.

answer I've gotten so far is to use the paid premium service. So, I'm
thinking I'm going to scrap hlstatsx. Any recommendations for any other
stats package for HL1DM Source?

RE: [hlds] Sdk update

2006-08-07 Thread Doug Crabtree
I don't know if it's common knowledge or not, but Hammer is now broken for
Linux mapping. It doesn't compile the physics data for Linux, only Windows.

I guess we have to wait _yet again_ for another update.

They definitely need to look into using some kind of QC program at Valve.
This is getting old. They, in my book, have surpassed Microsoft in
releasing problems.

RE: [hlds] Sdk update

2006-08-07 Thread Doug Crabtree
I'm am well aware.

I was just stating that if you now compiled a map using hammer, it won't
work on a Linux server.

It worked before the update. It now doesn't. I, being a programmer, am
aware about the complexities of multiple platform support. But as a
programmer, I enlist people to test out every aspect of the updates to make
sure I don't overlook anything. On each platform. This was an easy find...

Thanks for your response, Mr. Bush. As Mr. Reynolds has said, this is not
an issue for this group. I won't respond again.

Do you know how hard it is to have one thing be completely the same from
windows to linux? From your posting here, I'm pretty sure you DON'T.

I'm also sure of the fact you don't know how hard it is to take on such a
large size project like CSS/HL2 and the rest of the games to be released and
run flawlessly on BOTH win32 and unix based operating systems.

Do me a favor and google the word POSIX and read up on the differences
between Unix and Windows. When you've done that; and when your more than
just a map maker come back and complain.

Thanks and have a nice day.

I tend to disagree. Firstly server admins should have the option to disable
them. This is especially needed if you play the game in a competitive
environment. The players on my servers play the game in a very competitive
manner and thus even a minor advantage can be deemed as cheating by some.

Sorry if this is not the place to post this question but I can't find an
answer anyplace else and you guys are very good at solving problems.
Although I do run a hlDS this is not really a server question... almost.
This morning when I attempted to enter a game on my server (from my game
puter) Steam indicated that it was downloading updates... not too shocking
yet... but after the update was done and I tried to enter the game, I got a
message asking if I wanted to Download and install dedicated Server. If I
say no, the Steam Servers screen redisplays but I can't enter any server.
If I say yes, the Dedicated Server install downloads and thereafter, when I
attempt to enter any server, I get the screen up to start a dedicated
server.
Long story short, I can no longer join any server from my client. I
performed the standard delete the Clientregistry.blob stuff and stopped and
started Steam several times, but the problem remains. As near as I can
tell, my server is running fine but my game puter(client) can't join any
servers. Basically, the function to join a server , no longer executes
Half-Life but instead wants to either download dedicated server or start
dedicated server.

RE: [hlds] High Ping Players Lag Server?

2006-05-04 Thread Doug Crabtree
I don't think ping is the only problem. I think packet loss has something
to do with it also. We had a member of our clan that lives in Germany, when
he plays he is between 200 and 300 ping all the time. Didn't ever effect
our servers. We have many visitors from over seas that don't effect our
servers. On the other hand I have seen some in there with 200-300 pings
when they get in the whole experience grinds to a halt. So it can't be
_just_ ping. There has to be another reason... Not all 200+ pingers are
cheapskates :)

I'm sorry that you cannot afford 12.99 to 17.99 a month for DSL. I bet
you use dial-up because of that reason only. You are wrong when you say
you don't cause lag you do. I have used dial-up, and every time I did
I was told that I lagged the server. I have DSL now. I see it all the
time when the speeds are good because everyone has Broadband and one guy
who is too cheap to buy broadband, comes in with 300 ping and lags the
whole thing. We have been playing without lag for an hour, all of a
sudden huge lag, over and over and over. A guy came on with 250 ping.
Once he leaves it's back to perfect for another hour till the next cheap
skate comes in.

One person with 200-300 ping does wreak the fun of the other 30 players
because he is too cheap. If it were reversed and I was doing that to
you? Or something similar at your work or home I'm sure you would be
one of those cursing too. Why is it fair that because you don't have
dsl we all have to suffer?

hope if they do plan on phasing out the older version that they get this one
