I tend to disagree. Firstly server admins should have the option to disable
them. This is especially needed if you play the game in a competitive
environment. The players on my servers play the game in a very competitive
manner and thus even a minor advantage can be deemed as cheating by some.

Scripts are built-in features... Valve put them into Half-Life and they have
propagated through ever iteration of the game since.  What's wrong with

Okay now Im really confused.
Whats the difference between fps_max 100 and -tickrate 100?
I been using the fps_max setting and boosting my server fps will i benefit
if I use the -tickrate command at all?
I'm running a 24 player server on windows 2000.

[hlds] tickrate

Tickrate on CSS is set using the -tickrate command or so I been told.
By default the tickrate is set to 33.

What is the best setting for a 24player server?
What is the best setting for a 10player server?
Should server admin touch this setting and if yes why?

I agree once a cheater always a cheater. Make him pay for his mistakes by
making him buy another copy of the game that way valve get richer and
hopfully invest more time and effort into VAC2 making us server admins

Cheating is the biggest #1 scourge of online gaming

Valve screw up, thats a given, but cheating and the problems they

I been away from this list for a while and after seeing the last update
notice I ran back.

Can I make a suggestion for VAC2, please?

I know its only fair to warn before inserting a new system that will try to
catch cheaters.
I also know that it's the right way to do it when you are acctually trying
to get more players, and not less.

But, here goes.

What if you update VAC2... but only record cheats until the next update.
Then you ban the collected list and start a new recording after the new VAC2
update.
This way you create a fear for cheating... which is one of the most
successfull ways of stopping people from trying to cheat...

They can't just have someone else check if the cheat gets detected first,
then use it until the next VAC2 update.

To me this sounds like a really good idea, but it popped up an hour ago
while reading the archive.. so maybe I missed some side affect...

If people comment on this idea, maybe valve will consider it?

[hlds] Client side FPS influenced by css server?

Hi

Note : This is for Counter-Strike Source servers.

Is there a way to influence the client side FPS with cvar setting on the
server? I been server hopping and find that my servers generate half the
client side fps than other servers. Is there something on the server that
can influence this and if so what is it?

I'm running windows based servers on intel based hardware.
Any help will be appretiated

[hlds] Using same steam account on 2 servers at the same time.

I just picked this up and wanna know if its a know bug.
I have picked up a user playing on the same steam id on 2 servers at the
same time. Is this possible as I thought this could not happen.

If you would actually play it, you would see it as proof that you can carry
more than one primary and one secondary. Cause it's obvious you wont take my
word for it.

Once you have a primary and/or secondary, you can not PICK UP anymore. But
if the map is made so that you spawn with the weapons, you can spawn with 1
of each individual primary and/or secondary.

Since there has been no word from valve on the issue and The
weapon_weaponname entity's have been removed from the fgd in
Counter-strike it seems that valve has chosen to remove the ability
for mappers to place weapons in maps.

Not a good idea, anyone with half a brain will be getting a new steam
account for their HL2 purchase, so they don't lose their old HL / CZ
keys.  Though if you must do it you'll probably have to get someone to
code you a plugin to achieve it. :/

After reading some of the posts regarding the hacked steamid's I now need to
take action on my servers against these users as when we ban someone they
just come back with one of these id's. Correct me if I'm wrong but all
hacked steamid's are in the following format STEAM_X:X:44XX. I want to
some how ban all those id's off my servers using a wildcard like
STEAM_0:1:44%. Is it possible to use a wild card in the banned.cfg if yes
how, if not how can this be achieved?

Confirmed the old dll does fix the problem with server cpu spike but there
are things missing like the round time.
At this point we are looking at dropping all our 1.6 servers and going back
to 1.5 or maybe just dropping counter-strike in total with all the problems
experienced. Here in South Africa we are reliant on Cheating Death to do our
anti-cheats since VAC causes problems with the limited bandwidth out of our
country and users struggling to get the VAC module downloaded. Now with
Cheating Death breaking yet again plus the server cpu spikes plus AMX
needing to be upgraded it makes no sence in hosting a game thats more of a
problem to maintain than anything else.

"Most" of the issues with lag are a direct result of three native functions
changing/being removed. If you run amx mod or amxmodx on your servers
disable it. These 3 native functions being gone are causing parts of these
modifications to loop endlessly.
