RE: [hlds] autoupdate

2006-04-04 Thread Williams, Paul
Many thanks for that Roman, very helpful..I have however realised
that there is a further complication. I use Serverdoc to restart the
srcds instances everyday and reboot if there is a crash, not sure how to
get the two functioning together without screwing things up completely.
I suppose I'd have a similar problem if -autoupdate worked.

Normally it's not a problem for me to manually update the servers
directly on the machines or via RDP. I am however going on holiday for a
while and internet access may not always be available, plus I wanted to
simply forget about the servers for a while! Not to worry, if there's an
update people will just have to wait until I manage to hit a wireless
network somewhere on my travels...I suspect it shouldn't be too hard
find one in California somewhere.

Thanks again, Paul

You can use very simple batch file for this:

:loop
start /wait HldsUpdateTool.exe
start /wait HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game cstrike -dir .
start /wait /high hlds.exe -console -maxplayers 20 -game cstrike +map
de_dust -port 27015
goto loop

Save this into your server directory as something like run.cmd, copy
hldsupdatetool in there and have fun.
Just one little comment about hldsupdatetool being called twice - first
run
is to update tool itself, without this you may end up with server
starting
and updating at the same time resulting in non-working installation
which
will require an access to server console to fix.

I have another more complicated batch file I wrote to simplify
management of
multiple servers on single box, let me know if you are interested.

Regards,

Roman

Sorry if I'm behind the times here but did -autoupdate ever get
implemented for CSS windows srcds?

Thx

RE: [hlds] SRCDS Memory hog now!

2006-02-03 Thread Williams, Paul

Well, I take it all back! My vanilla instance of srcds was showing over
200MB of memory usage this morning with no players on. After a restart
it was back to just over 45MB. It would appear that it may not be a
plugin issue after all.

Both servers were busy last night and empty when I checked memory usage
this morning. It's rather odd that the srcds instance with Beetles mod
still leaked memory overnight (about the same as stated in my last post)
but the vanilla instance leaked far more!it did however have
source TV running..I'm getting a bit bemused now...looks
like it may take a bit more time to work this one out. In the meantime
I'll just have to reboot the servers more often.

There is something, but I haven't been entirely able to replicate it.
My
standard mani mod setup is pretty customized and does not exhibit the
leak,
but I ran a stock server since Monday night with stock mani setup and it
has
leaked (upwards of over 2GB of usage when it was full with 32ppl)

Getting back to the thread subject, always difficult on this list :-)

I've been running a basic test over the last 24hrs using two srcds
instances
on the same machine (2003 Server, 1Gig Ram).

The first srcds instance has been running beetlesmod and has displayed a
memory leak. Memory usage increases from, roughly, 45MB to 125MB over a
few
hours.

The second srcds instance has been run both with and without the CPL 1.1
plugin. With the plugin installed memory usage increase again from about
45MB to 180MB over a few hours. Without the plugin installed memory
usage
remains around the 45MB mark.

I haven't had an opportunity to investigate this further, but based on
the
information to hand at the moment it does appear that an issue exists
with
memory leakage when using plugin dlls.

It would be good if someone at valve could take a look at this issue and
either fix the leak or inform plugin writers how to change their dll
code so
it's compatible with srcds.

[hlds] CS Source dedicated server errors

2004-10-08 Thread Williams, Paul
How many people are getting errors on server start-up and map changes
with the new source dedicated server? My source servers work fine,
players don't seem to notice anything wrong at all, just loads of errors
in the server console.

On server start up I get the following.

Attempted to create unknown entity type event_queue_saveload_proxy!
Error parsing 'BotProfile.db' - invalid template reference 'VOICE'

Error: Material sprites/bubble : proxy AnimatedTexture not found!
The Navigation Mesh was built using a different version of this map.

On map changes, well, loads of errors depending on the map, all relate
to 'Material'...

A small example from Aztec...

Error: Material maps/de_aztec/liquids/aztecwater_-384_-1520_-455 :
proxy AnimatedTexture not found!
Error: Material maps/de_aztec/liquids/aztecwater_-384_-1520_-455 :
proxy TextureScroll not found!

The folders hinted at above do not exist in the source installation (the
server is up to date, just checked again to be sure!).

Any ideas?

Thanks, Paul

There are one or two CVARs that need to be set each map change
or they fall back to the default.

In your server.cfg file add the CVARs and the values you want and also add
this:

mapchangecfgfile server.cfg

You can certainly use some other config file but usually this isn't
necessary. If you do not set this CVAR then your server.cfg will only be
executed once when the server first starts.

This isn't a bug but it can be confusing if you don't know about it.

[hlds] sv_maxspeed

2004-07-17 Thread Williams, Paul
An admin on one of my servers flagged this up. It would seem that the default value of
sv_maxspeed 320 in the server.cfg is being ignored and defaulting to a value of 900.
If I set it to 320 during a map then all is fine until a map change, then it's back up
to 900.

A quick browse through other servers shows that, at least all of the ones I looked at,
they are also running at a value of 900. Has something changed that I don't know about
or is there a problem somewhere?

Cheers, Paul

RE: [hlds] Latest Win Version, HLDS - Lag Issue

2004-06-23 Thread Williams, Paul
Unless I've missed something, it seems that those who had the problem have rolled back
to the old mp.dll and are up and running.

We wait patiently for Valve to say something more on the subject. No other fix that I
know of as yet.

Just wanna verify those who had this problem are you still having it with
the latest mp.dll?
Is there any other fix anyone knows of appart from replacing the mp.dll to
the older one?

RE: [hlds] Rollback dlls wanted

2004-06-17 Thread Williams, Paul
There is a download link to the CS dlls posted on the steampowered forums here.

http://www.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?s=threadid=95189

Although these dlls have worked for my servers as a temporary fix, I'll be exploring
the AMX angle as well. I simply haven't had time to explore this problem in the last
24hrs, but it does seem that equally a lot of people are not having this issue, so
it's certainly worth investigating/testing the AMX angle. Its just a pain to have to
jump through these hoops on occasions, especially when you have players screaming at
you to fix problems.

If anyone has the Windows equivalent dlls for CS and DoD (mp.dll and
dod.dll ) would you be so kind as to post a link to download them.

The Linux folks I'm sure wouldn't mind theirs as well ;)

I'm sure it would help a great bunch of us out!

Appreciate it

your servers now.'

luv ya really Eric, your not a bad lad despite the rumours!

Whenever you see a file attached from a VALVe employee email address. It's
not a VALVe employee. Its our infamous list hax0r. We suspect it is a virus
