[hlds] TS2 Not Updating: WinSock Error 10054 Connection reset by peer
Hello all, I see many have been having trouble with TF2 update. I'm having the same. I've tried about 7 times today already on the same server without success. I have tried with the normal update which doesn't complete. When I try to start the server I get some errors. I tried with the -verify_all switch a few times and keep getting this error: Connection Reset, WinSock Error 10054 Connection reset by peer So it doesn't complete the verification of files or the update. [hlds] TF2 Lag issues still, Dual Xeon 2.8Ghz
I have been trying to get this problem sorted out for a while. I tried the suggestions people gave on this list before and none have helped. System specs: Win 2003 Server Dual Xeon 2.8Ghz (not dual core) 4GB memory Server load: CPU, memory and network utilization aren't an issue from what I have seen from hours of looking. I have been trying to sort this problem out for several days now. I have seen the issue on several different server machines so it's not isolated to just one server box. I have tried running the servers at both 66 and 100 tick, boosting the FPS to 600, fps_max 600 I have tried running them at the default rate settings and also these that were suggested: sv_minrate 4000 sv_maxrate 2 sv_maxupdaterate 85 sv_minupdaterate 10 sv_maxcmdrate 66 Description of Problem: When above more than 14 or so players join the server, This is the description of the problem: stuttering across the map, rockets were skipping etc. Others were complaining too. This is definately not the users end since they say they can play on other servers without this problem. As I said I have been trying to get this problem sorted out for several days and so far have been unable to. Yes, mine is a Dual Xeon 2.8Ghz P4 not core2. What problems have been cropping up with P4's exactly ? I tried Tony's suggestions for server.cfg settings but don't have any confirmation if anything was fixed yet from the players. [hlds] TF2 Server laggy above 20 players
Hello, I am hoping someone will have some good input about this issue I am having on one of my servers. The server is dual zeon 2.8ghz. CPU usage 30% or less at full load. Memory is non-issue Network Less than 19% capacity I have ruled this out as neither a hardware issue or network problem. What happens is when 20 or more people join this 24 man server it gets really laggy and people start complaining that it's unplayable. The server is running at 66 tickrate with these rate settings in server.cfg: sv_minrate 4000 sv_maxrate 2 sv_maxupdaterate 66 This is a windows 2003 server not that it makes a difference. It does have Beetlesmod current version on it. Alright, I think that's all my details. The hardware should be able to handle this no problem and it's not a hardware load issue at all. I spent about 2 hours monitoring this tonight to verify that with feedback from people playing. Searching the net I have found several people complaining about lag issues on TF2 servers also. I appreciate your reply. I tried using a server.cfg I use for CSS servers with sv_maxrate etc. the same it seems to work ok as far as I can tell. It would be great for valve to post a sample suggested server.cfg. [hlds] Lag with Bots on 100 Tick CSS ?
I have been spending allot of time trying to figure out a problem so far I haven't been able to find a solution. The problem is when bots are added to a 100 tick cs:source server it starts to lag and players complain about in game performance. The server rates are set correctly for 100 tick. This is not a cpu/memory load issue and not any network ping related issue. I also have moved this to a brand new server box with the same symptoms. Is there some issue with adding bots to 100 tick servers (10 to 15 or so bots) that causes performance issues for the connected players in the game ? [hlds] Need Help with CZ sv_downloadurl
Hello, I Need some help from you guys.. (*Please*) I have setup sv_downloadurl but part of it doesn't seem to be working. When I first connect to server I can see it is looking on the website during the verifying resources because the Content Provided by box is blank. Meaning it doesn't say Content provided by Valve I have created a .res file for fy_streets but when I connect to the server it is not downloading from the website (tries to take 10 mins starting to download from game server) In the server.cfg I have entered: sv_downloadurl http://www.MyClanWebsite/czero; sv_download 1 sv_allowupload 1 in fy_streets.res on the game server it shows: maps/fy_streets.bsp maps/fy_streets.nav maps/fy_streets.txt I have verified that the maps and files are in place on http://www.MyClanWebsite.com/czero in all the correct folders /czero/maps etc. What could I be missing that won't allow fy_streets.bsp to download from the website ? [hlds] Question about .res files and custom models
Hello all, I have a fairly simple question I'm sure someone here knows the answer but I have been unable to find it online. I know that .res files need to be created for custom maps when using the sv_download or web redirect but do I need to create some kind of .res file to make the connected gamer download custom models as well ? If so what would the .res file name be for the custom models ? I know say if I have a custom map I would make a .res file named de_superdust.res but what for a custom model file called superduper.mdl ? superduper.res ? (those aren't real file names of course in example) I need to know about custom model files and .res file names or if .res are even needed for custom model files. [hlds] HLTV issue
I got a HLTV issue that has me stumped. I've run HLTV on a bunch of CS / CZ servers before with the same config with no problem. Here's my problem: HLTV connects to the server fine and you can see it's a connected. However, when you go to the game and type: connect (followed by HLTV IP) it will not connect it gives a Failed to connect to game server message. I don't understand what the problem could be. It is running on the correct IP/Port I try to connect to. I can see it connected in the console. Can anyone give me a clue as to what could be the problem ? Below is a very basic HLTV.cfg. [hlds] CS Source Update released (server still out of date problem)
Anyone having problems after updating CS Source tonight with the server still not saying updated in Steam ? In the server console it no longer shows Your Server is Out of Date since I ran the update tool and restarted however if you find the server in Steam and try to join it says This server is out of Date and will not allow you to join. You can join directly from the game console by typing in the IP. I'm a bit stumped. I re-ran the update 3 times including deleting the .blob files to let them come down again. I restarted a few servers today and found that they did not become VAC secured again at restart. Servers were on different machines in different parts of the US. Nothing in my config or setup has changed. Getting that good ol' message of: Could not establish connection to Steam servers. VAC secure mode disabled. Anyone else ? The only thing they seemed to be able to do was to change the map at will and annoy the server admin and other people trying to play on the server in chat. As I said before, at first the server was running manimod and eventscripts. I stopped the server, removed the mod temporarily, changed the RCON pass and restarted. They still were able to change the map somehow when they wanted bothering people that were trying to play the game. They just kept changing the map over and over. I then banned them both by Steam ID and IP address. That kept them out but I still don't know exactly how they were doing that in the first place. I looked through the logs and I couldn't find anything unusual. It wasn't a real server crash just map restarts. I had an admin complaining about someone that had somehow got control over his DOD:Source server and was harrassing the admins in game and restarting the server at will by changing maps. Running on the server at the time were manimod and eventscripts. I shut down the server and restarted it with no mods and changed the RCON password as well. Still this person seems to be able to keep changing the maps. Has anyone heard of any DOD Source Exploit like this ? Please let me know if you have. It is very annoying. Thank you. Does anyone have available the pre-march CZ files I could download somewhere ? I need the files that are current enough to be VAC secured. Someone had posted a link to some files for CS a week or so ago but I need the ones for CZ. I just need the CZ .dlls I guess and some of the engine files. Can anyone help with this ? [hlds] HL1 Issues on Dual Xeon Servers
Hello, A week or so ago about 3 people posted on this list about having strange lag issues on HL1 servers that were not due to server load or network performance. They found the solution was to roll back to the next to last HL1 engine update files and someone posted the files for download here. So at this point has this issue been addressed by Valve that it is going to be fixed ? Someone told me that this has been posted in the list however I have been watching it closely and have not seen this. All my servers start with a server management tool that sets affinity to use Both CPUs when HLDS starts so my issue is not the same as the one people have been talking about the problem of CS only being bound to one CPU. The bottom line for my question is has valve said anything about fixing the issue in the last HL1 update for dual xeon systems that already have set on startup bound to both CPUs. Symptom of problem: Strange lag.. pings will be normal 30-40ms or whatever then all of a sudden pings go through the roof.. 300ms above or whatever. This is not related to CPU, system resource usage or network related. This only seems to be seen on HL1 servers that have had the newest update. [hlds] New VAC Problems
I have some VAC problems today that I haven't had before with updated HL1 based servers. The message I see when I start servers is: Connection to Steam Servers Successful (SU) VAC Secure mode not available status shows: insecure (secure mod enabled, disconnected from Steam3) If I have had problems in the past I have been able to fix them either by an -sport switch or making sure my files are updated. Neither of those are working for me today and I have this issue on several server machines. The Steam VAC error message also seems different. [hlds] Problem since last CSS Update
My servers were updated properly and are no longer showing the Server out of Date message. I can connect to the servers fine with no problem but several people have said they can't connect and when they try they get a message saying You do not have this third party mod or something like that and they cannot connect. I do not understand why some people would see this message since I know the servers are updated and I have no problem connecting myself. I have had quite a few people complain about this issue and I'm a bit stumped as to what this problem could be since I know the updates completed. Anyone know what this could be ? I don't see as many serious issues as other people seem to be complaining about. For the most part people are happy with valve games as far as I can tell. I'm glad that the valve team responds fairly quickly to severe game issues so servers do keep up and running. For that other game that someone mentioned that had a successful boycott. That was Call of Duty 2. There was a well publicized protest about lack of anti-cheat in COD2. The company got the message and they plan to release an anti-cheat soon. As far as boycotting Valve I don't think thats going to work and it's not helpful. Instead it would be best to post your issues or bugs in a polite manner instead of the bad attitude too often we see displayed on this list. I have the newest version of Neo TF I could find ver 1.81 or something like that. I installed it according to instructions, server starts fine and shows as running. However when you try to connect no one can join. It hangs on Loading resources. I spent several hours last night trying to get it work with no success. I even loaded the client file on my PC so it shouldn't need to download resources from server but I still can't join. No error message, just hung on Pre-caching resources.. something like that. My first servers on that night sat at the Updating Steam to ver 45 message without bringing down a single file for at least 3-4 hours also. I tried a few restarts during that time to see if it was just hung but that didn't do anything. Is anyone else having problems with the update starting or completing ? On updating I have this screen: Updating 'Counter-Strike Source Shared Content' from version 43 to version 45 It's been at least 8-10 minutes and not one file has come down or updated. Steam Network overloaded ? It seems constipated because nothing is moving. I've complained before about the time Valve picks for updates but no one seems to care about that. I do understand that. I guess I live in the unlucky part of the world because steam updates allways hit our servers at the worst possible time of the day. That is right when everyone is getting home from work and tries to get on their servers between 4pm - 7pm. It would be nice if us server admins could get some sort of pre-load the night before it goes live to steam clients or a staged deployment based on time zone at 2am. [hlds] Problem with sv_alltalk on CZ Server
This seems really dumb but I'm having a problem with sv_alltalk on a CZ Server. In the server.cfg there is the line that says: sv_alltalk 1 However, when the server is restarted and I check the value it is set to sv_alltalk 0 I can't understand why this would be since it was set to 1 for sure in the server.cfg when the server starts. I have looked around as to why this would be and can't find out why. Does anyone have any idea why sv_alltalk 1 set in the server.cfg would not be applied on server start ? Is there a specific port that has to be open on a server box for servers to show in the Steam server listing ? For some reason I have one server box with CS Servers not showing in the Steam server listing. You can connect and play on the CS Servers fine it's just not showing in the server list. The strange thing is that another server box in the same rack has CS Servers showing fine in Steam. The difference is the kind of firewalls on each box. The problem with people that setup remote control panels to update games by Steam that don't have full access to the server is the person using the control panel never knows how long the update is taking, they also never know if there is some steam error that did not complete successfully. I have seen many times when I update a server the update has completed, however after restart only to find that the update did not complete and it is missing some files. Only after running the Steam update again will it correct the problem. Someone trying to do this from a Control Panel will never know this. Second thing is.. when Steam Updates first come out on the release day I often have seen where I need to keep restarting the update over and over where it will seem to hang not downloading a single file for a very long time. I'm guessing because the Steam network is overloaded with everyone trying to get the update at the same time. Often after sitting there for a long time it will just exit after not downloading one file and will need to be restarted again. I have seen it sit there for over an hour not getting a single file. I've been having allot of problems with DOD:S Servers where anything above 18 players on a server will cause lag. Meanwhile CPU/Memory are a non-issue. I have messed with rate settings, have fps booster etc with no improvement. I can't figure out why people say they lag with more than 18 players. I've had no problems with CSS or other game servers I host. I also have a Dual Xeon with Hyperthreading. What's this about Disabling HT and how would it improve game server performance ? [hlds] DOD Source Dedicated Server Files
From what I read earlier we were expecting to have the DOD Source Dedicated files 2 days before the public unlock of DOD:S. Right now we are less than 24 hours away from the public unlock time. The files are not available yet and we haven't had any news about this as to what the delay is. Waiting until the public unlock time would be bad for those of us that have more than a few servers. The whole idea behind a pre-load is supposed to prepare gamers to be ready at the unlock time without putting strain on the Steam network I would think. However if Server Admins and game host providers do not have the dedicated server files there will be none online for players to connect to or worse yet leaving us to scramble at unlock time to try to load server files. Meanwhile, people asking why they can't connect to the new DOD:S server because the files are not there. Is there any updated news on when we will really have the dedicated server files ? [hlds] VAC Problem Could Not Establish Connection to Steam Servers
Since no one replied last time I'm reposting this question/Problem. After the last few updates I now have problems with some of my CSS servers where when I start it up it will say VAC Secured then a few seconds later it will go unsecured with a message saying Could Not Establish Connection to Steam Servers I have other CSS Servers on this same machine that are VAC Secured with no problem. This server is running on its own IP on Windows machine. I have run multiple CSS servers on the same machines for months with no problems until these last few updates. I understand there's some new -sport option but I don't know what this does or what the fix is to correct this problem with several CSS Servers running on the same machine. I have not updated my servers with the latest steam updates since they were optional updates and not required for players to connect and play on their HL 1 engine servers. I only updated one for testing purposes. However, I started getting complaints for DOD Servers only that are not updated about problems connecting. [hlds] Problems with CSS Surf Maps
I have a server with some performance problems and I noticed that when running Surf custom maps for CSS there are 100's of errors per minute in the console. The error is something like Datatable Warning:... Out of Range Value.. in Send Prop Float This is bad scripting in the custom map I would think. I have only seen this for people that run these custom Surf maps and not other custom maps. Can someone explain what this means and has anyone else had this problem on CSS surf maps ? Since the HL1 engine update the other day CS servers can't display the server in HLSW and online web server views from web pages that show live server status. There was the similar problem with a CSS update a while back that was fixed by adding sv_enableoldqueries 1 in the server.cfg This doesn't seem to fix it in CS after the HL1 engine update released on June. 7th. I know in CS you had to use AMX or statsme to get extra data written to the logfiles that was then processed player data and weapon hitbox info for Psychostats. There's some statsme mod out for CSS but I heard it causes performance issues. I would rather just have an option to turn on for more detailed logging. Can someone please explain to me why Steam Updates are always released between 4pm PST and 7pm PST ? What is the purpose of this time frame ? I know there are others outside of the US but 5pm to 9pm is the heaviest traffic time for gamers. I know valve is also in the US. can someone explain to me why it always has to be at this time ? Question to the Valve Team: Why do you guys always release new Steam updates for servers late in the day like 5pm ? Don't you guys know that is when people start to get home from work and try to get on all the CS:Source servers ? Meanwhile people that are game hosts are scrambling trying to update all the source servers on an overloaded Steam network. I have been staring at a screen running an update for over an hour on the west coast and not a single file has been pulled down or moved. It's in the updating mode Please have a heart and release new updates in the morning instead of the end of the day to give server admins ample time to update servers before it hits prime gaming time. Either that or fix the problem with the Steam network getting overloaded and unable to supply updates quickly. I'd be fine with a slow network if the updates were released in the morning. I'm sure other game hosts would say the same thing. Thank God for ServerDoc, because Firedaemon is not restarting the HL2-DM servers that are being intentionally crashed with all of the model and other exploits. The steam forums are full of lists of bugs, exploits, crashing models using ### characters, invisible player models, etc. etc.. I have personally banned about 40 players in the last 3-4 days just while I am in the server seeing those who are playing as a bullet, barrel, headcrab, or invisible. At first it was cute seeing a headcrap running around with an RPG, but this is really out of control now. I can no longer run the Steamlab map because there apparently are many more things that can be used for them to crash the server and cause trouble. I am surprised that there are not more server admin posts on this list about it. [hlds] Can't display MOTD in CS:Source Beta
For some reason when I modify the motd.txt file that came with CS:Source Beta the changes still aren't displayed. It still shows the generic motd that came with the beta.
