Right. So the two 32 player servers are 66 tickrate, what about the other
three servers?

How are the servers arranged on that box?

I would guess CPU #1 = 32 player + 23 player and CPU #2 = 32 player + 13
player + 8 player

What are the tickrates on these servers?

As a rough estimate for dod:s (I notice Morten is quoting below default
tickrate settings, which are useful in terms of can it run at lower than
default settings fine, but not so much in terms of do people ever accept
lower than default settings), I would say 2Gig per 32 slots is minimum cpu
(and then it will be struggling just). I wouldn't want to run more than 32
slots total on any 1 cpu (if dual then 64 split unless a lot smaller servers
and HT enabled). I personally don't believe 100 dod:s slots can run on
a 2.4dual unless defaults lowered considerably. 2*32 yes, 4*18 or so
then yes
(assuming servers busy).

I have a 20 slot dod:s server running on my spare computer, on a 100mbit
connection.

Setup:
Windows XP, tweaked
20 slots dod:s server
Mani admin plugin
Crappy ASRock motherboard £20-30
Athlon 1.4 Ghz CPU
512 MB ram
Tickrate 45

When full it uses about 60-80 % CPU, with 500+ FPS..

No one is experiencing lag or ping spikesand the bullet registration
seems fine, with no complaints.

Just to point something out to those whiners who was banging Valve's head

Oh well... the "server" is available via STEAM.

Looks like vALVE may hav made another exceedingly stupid judgement error
if they think "dedicated server" is tied to a STEAM account.

The clock os ticking. If vALVE stupids out on this then I am getting out
of this retarded video game "business" (I make NO money folks..NOT a GSP

Damn... go to just one woodsball event and you will never... ever... go

You can can just make a new one right with the steam software, on a
win32 platform, the dedicated server stuff is included with every steam
account automatically and for free.

RE: [hlds] Dod Source

2005-09-25 Thread Jason L. Schwab
Yeah its available in my steam's dedicated source server as well,
although if I try to start one just to try it out, I get an error with
invalid file format for the dod\gameinfo.txt or whatever the file is.

I hope we hear something soon from valve, specially on the non-steam
requirements side, like the hlds tools being updated for both win32 and
as well updated for the linux environments.

I run servers on both, so I want to see both! C'mon valve! ;)

Valve,

It's a day before the release and we haven't heard anything from you
yet on the server files. If I can't get this installed tonight then my
servers will not be ready until 8pm tomorrow. So how about a time at least
guys.

Thanks

Yeah, a pre-release of the dedicated server would be excellent (and for
future title releases as well).

Having to fight every player for content bandwidth to set up servers for
them to actually play is a bit silly.

From what I read earlier we were expecting to have the DOD Source
Dedicated files 2 days before the public unlock of DOD:S.

Right now we are less than 24 hours away from the public unlock time.
The files are not available yet and we haven't had any news about this
as to what the delay is.

Waiting until the public unlock time would be bad for those of us that
have more than a few servers. The whole idea behind a pre-load is
supposed to prepare gamers to be ready at the unlock time without
putting strain on the Steam network I would think.
However if Server Admins and game host providers do not have the
dedicated server files there will be none online for players to connect
to or worse yet leaving us to scramble at unlock time to try to load
server files.
Meanwhile, people asking why they can't connect to the new DOD:S server
because the files are not there.

Is there any updated news on when we will really have the dedicated
server files ?

Thank you for helpful info,
LB

Will linux binaries be available at the same time as win32? Also, will

Sorry to add yet more questions to the mountain that you probably

I second that. We are arranging a dod source tournamet at a café and it's my
job to set up the servers for it
and I would surely like to have more then 1 - 2 days to set up the servers
and make them work at an optimal
configuration.. Please release the server this upcoming monday so we
serverowners can have atleast a week
to set everything up for our gamers.

Any chance we can get more then 2 days to get the server side downloaded
and
setup? Be realy cool if the release of DOD source had more servers ready
proir to the clients being set lose to fight over the 20 or so servers
that
happen to get it downloaded and setup. In the passed (and I might be
speaking for my self only here) it always seems that there are hardly any
server up on the release, so I end up spending my time tring to download

I made this suggestion a few months ago too, but never heard anything
from Alfred about it. Yes, they run from different installations, but
for the sake of map searching and game querying, having some minor
distinction between the two is useful.
