Re: [hlds] This Steam account does not own this game message in console
I've got about 130 counts of this in ALL my log files for more servers than sin ;) However like 110 of them are HLDM and HL2DM, so I might believe it was something weird to allow people to play single player w/o buying the game. Maybe Alfred can clarify for us when and where this message comes up. Roman Hatsiev wrote: All gcf files are kept in shared folder. Re: [hlds] This Steam account does not own this game message in console
This has been going on a long time. I saw the first on 11/17/2005, but only 3 events total in 2005 (on HL2DM). I've seen 17 so far in 2006. I mostly see that message in my HL2DM server but it does occasionally show in HLDM too. - Original Message - From: Andrew Armstrong To: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com Sent: Tuesday, May 09, 2006 9:19 AM Subject: RE: [hlds] This Steam account does not own this game message in console Is this a recent change at Valve? -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of WaLLy3K Sent: Wednesday, 10 May 2006 1:42 AM To: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com Subject: [hlds] This Steam account does not own this game message in console Non legit steam clients accessing games that they don't own on that account. I wouldn't jump on the hack wagon just yet, you do have the ablity to brows servers so for a second lets say someone is sharing the PC with one user profile and two steam accounts, player Y has all the games and player Z has half, so if player Z was browsing the server list and saw said server then double clicked on it, the content would start to load seeing how the contect is truely there, so they would be able to get all the way to authenicat and at that point Steam would match the account to the game and dump player. That still isn't right. Installed apps go in different directories for different users.
