Re: [hlds] Valve testing servers
I tried it on my tf2 server... if you set it to 22 fake players, then your server only shows as a 2 slot server on the list (if it's a 24 slot server) =] I think that's something valve did though. oh well. Yes, Valve decreased slots when there is bots and fakeclients are bots, so we can't do anything ! As a player who would resent joining a seemingly full server only to be greeted with no filled slots and 18 bots, I derived sexual pleasure from that quote. Seriously though, is it too much hassle to act in an honest manner? Simply grab a few frineds/clan members and 'seed' the server. Usually if it is popular 6-10 seems to be the critical mass required to really get it going - surely it's a better option than lying to your potential...perhaps not clients but community certainly. Exactly the same thing that is happening with ours. We have a massive memory leak that gives out about every 2 - 3 days. The server will start reporting snapshot overflows and start dropping everyone. I get about 300,000K memory usage before the server goes down. I didn't have this problem for about 2 months, and now we're back to it. What happened? RE: [hlds] Valve testing servers
Our servers reboot daily automatically and I don't think we've observed these symptoms if that helps. Our graphs of the server usage (players vs memory vs cpu) show a slight rise in memory over time but not much at all. May be more obvious if we left a server online without rebooting it for a few days as you describe. - Andrew -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Erik Johnson Sent: Wednesday, 27 February 2008 6:19 AM To: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com Subject: [hlds] Valve testing servers This is a multi-part message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] We're running a bunch of games servers right now to get some performance data, but we need to get a bunch more clients to connected to make it worthwhile. Re: [hlds] Valve testing servers
Maybe make this a special event, and give out random free passes to play on just your servers? or just let me play tf2 on your servers for free, I don't see me leaving CS:S for a long time but I will stay in your servers if you want. I would like very much to help find the leaks ;D Andrew Armstrong wrote: Our servers reboot daily automatically and I don't think we've observed these symptoms if that helps. Our goal is to make the servers pretty much fall over from the load, or crash from lack of memory. If people have any spare cycles, connect to one of the 16 servers running at: 207.173.176.220:27045 through 207.173.176.220:27060 They will be running all the time, so getting a good sample of data would be really useful.
