Re: [hlds] Why A Mailing List?

2008-02-12 Thread Ook

A mailing list is (for me) more convenient. It comes to me. It's in my
mailbox. I don't have to go to some website and log in and then search
through the messages to find anything worth reading. It's there whenever I
check my email. Ten mailing lists means they all come into my mailbox
whenever I want to check email.

Forums tend to be moderated. And more then often you end up with some heavy
handed nazi moderator that pisses people off and drives off a lot of good
people. Ten forums means ten different web sites with ten different (or not)
logins that I have to remember, and it's too much trouble when I can just
sit on my fat butt and let them all come to me in my mailbox.

I know I go on them all the time. Why do we have a mailing list though if there
are forums. Release update emails but still not enough to make an email system
for just that.

lol yeah, I know. I don't bother to read them anymore.

And I like the mailing list since announcements like updates to SourceDS are
emailed to me. That, and most of the nubbins from SteamPowered forums can't
muster the will to be bothered to sign up on these lists, so the idiot count
is considerably lower.
