Why not simply NOT allow uploads of sprays directly to the Server. But
allow Sprays to download after prior approval. Set up a area where people
can send Sprays for Preview prior to loading on Server. Enough said... As
long as someone out there wants Porn as a Spray... they will surely find a
server that does not block it...

I do have a couple kids playing on my Server and some of thier parents have

they respect the fact Porn is an automatic BAN, I do check, more work but
try to maintain a clean server.

They respect the fact I do take an action to eliminate it..

James, that is why we have disabled sprays completely.
It really is just not worth the hassle for something so peripheral to the
game.

It's like janet jaksons titty where the superbowl is the server and the
titty is child porn. The superbowl could not stop the titty yet it was still
blamed for the unfortanate inncident. The titty can be explained if you
realize that it is just a poor misguided sole trying to make themselves
relevant by resorting to the only means they have.

I don't think anyone here is debating over whether or not such a spray is
wrong, as we all know it is and it is sad that some have to revert to that
kind of behavior. I think what got my panties in a bunch is when this poor
guy started talking about potential litigation. It's a freaking game and
games are meant to be fun.
Then we start comparing it to real life and how it should be handled in the
same way. That just isn't possible, case in pointthis mailing list. How
many times has someone typed something that was completely taken out of
context because it doesn't have the body language and facial animations to
accompany and supplement the true meaning of the statement. I could come in
here and say "Hey whisper you fucker" and many including him would probably
be insulted, but do it in person where I give him a friendly tap on the arm
and smile while I am doing it and it is a whole other situation. There just
is no way to apply real life social norms to an online world and because of
that can someone really be sued over anothers actions in which they have
little control?
Just deal with everyone that uses any kind of porn sprays, that is what I
do. I have found that the ONLY real way to get a players attention is to
affect their score. Slay for any offense you find and ban for the major
ones.

Well I don't see how the server owner can be sued and forced to take away
every players ability to express theirself "in a good manner" through
sprays. Only thing he really can do is ban them from that server. I
really
do not see any grounds for him to be sued being that he has taken action

I totally agree - doesn't a multiplayer game involve social interaction?
Why would the same rules about normal social interaction not apply? Why
would the fact that you communicate and interact through a game
environment
across the internet rather than face to face change the normal rules of
etiquette, sportsmanship and politeness?

It is because some people like acting like thugs - and in this

Whisper,

I agree, this "it's just a game" excuse crap is about as lame as it
gets! Its the same thing as when you call in to get help with your
credit card, computer, etc, and they act like assholes. They do it
because they can get away with it, usually, and love to be idiots and
mean to others. It's a mental issue these people have. Don't get
yourself worked up over it, just ignore the idgits.

How does the "It's just a game" statement justify any of the mulitude of
transgressions one can accomplish in these games, just because they can.
Why is acceptable to do something online that would not be acceptable
offline? I am aware of why people do it, but there is no rationale that I
have seen anybody put forward thus far, that can possibily justify any of
it.

RE: [hlds] Re: Child porn sprays are out of control

2005-10-16 Thread Ben Elvin
I totally agree - doesn't a multiplayer game involve social interaction?
Why would the same rules about normal social interaction not apply? Why
would the fact that you communicate and interact through a game environment
across the internet rather than face to face change the normal rules of
etiquette, sportsmanship and politeness?

It is because some people like acting like thugs - and in this environment
they can get away with it.

And let's be honest here - the chap is talking about CHILD PORN sprays.
Which of you think that behaviour like that is acceptable in ANY
circumstance?
