I hate advertising in games. If I'm hosting my own servers, I will pay for
it. If I do not have the money, I can't rent dedicated servers. Easy thing.
To make money with the work from others (plugindevelopers/valve) is the
wrong way. Programm your own shit server and then you are able to earn
money. Big communitys has much members, which are able to pay together.
This point doesn't count, that big communnitys dies, when they aren't able
to advertising.

Re: [hlds] Ad Company

2013-04-08 Thread 1nsane
Ugh... Valve's business is earning money from the work of others (Steam
publishing games).

Also TF2 is a free to play game that requires a big number of servers to
keep the game easily accessible for everyone all over the world.
There's practically no reason to host MvM servers because you can't exactly
build a community around that mode if you run it stock.
It's all just random players sent by matchmaking yet the resource usage can
be equal to a server full of real people.

If the Steam forums are to be believed then there's no ad-free servers in
Australia.
Not everyone is willing to do charity work for random people on the
internet so they don't have to wait hours in the matchmaking line.

Re: [hlds] Ad Company

2013-04-07 Thread Paul
I haven't received messages of this type, but that could be because
ElitePowered are based in the USA where my servers are in the UK. I'd be
interested in talking to him myself, just a matter of finding how to. The
website seems non-functional, with a MySQL error occurring when trying to
login or register, so either the service is fake or it's just not quite
ready yet.

company and how he wants to put ads on my server? Seems a bit strange but i
go along. He gives me a link to this page.

 http://elitepowered.org/ads/

Just by looking at the page, i can tell it is in beta or still being
worked on because none of the links actually lead to anything. Now he
apparently says to contact Mamo the owner of Elite Powered. Elite Mamo
added me and we are discussing things, but i really am confused as to what
 is it.

What is exactly going on and has anyway else been contacted like this?

Do you know any alternatives to pinion, which is dedicated ad networks for
games/well integrated into source-games?

Otherwise, this could be a good time to make a alternative with
non-intrusive ads but same work methods as pinion.

I think you are looking for this one because its audio advertising. I also
didn't like pinion because it used to pay good before but now I hardly even
pay for 1 server with it and players dont like the forced ads either. If
you disable ad forcing they will stay paying you peanuts, I will see if I
will give it a try after looking at the smx file of course.

Re: [hlds] Ad Company

2013-04-07 Thread scott biszmaier
ive been contacted by them myself, he was telling me that the plugin needs to
be on 'custom' type TF2 servers over vanilla due to the latest update blocking
the motd in vanilla type servers or something other... it sounds too good to be
true. offered $7 CPM, said that he gets paid $10 CPM and he keeps $3 and pays
me $7.

i declined for multiple reasons, the main being he wouldn't send me the source
of this plugin so i have no idea what this plugin is capable of and i dont want
to get blacklisted in any way by valve. another reason was that he's obviously
found a loophole of some sort making all that money without anyone seeing the
ads, they only hear them and id hate to see the repercussions when this ad
company finds out.
