RE: [hlds_linux] [UA] Guide to Fighting OGC

2002-08-18 Thread Nick McLaren

Seems kind of elementary to me. I do NOT however recommend disabling
footstep sounds for the sake that it is an important part of the gameplay
for alot of players. Personally I'm maintaining my faith in VAC and VAC
alone, as the aimbot/wallhack blocking functionality for the **Guard series
results in too much of an increase in resource utilization, primarily CPU.
Still, your heart as in the right place. We can all respect that. =)

Your #1 advice, "Enable VAC" is mistaken... VAC runs by default, and the
"secure" liblist.gam value is irrelevant, it's only disabled if you
place -insecure in commandline.

No you do not need to open a port just to see reports of cheat detections.
Just place -testmodule vactest in your command line and restart your server
if you would like to test. To view who's been caught cheating by VAC, thus
far I've been using the following simple grep:

cd /logs
grep -i secure * | more

OR if you want to just see today's detections, make sure you include the
date in your wildcard:

cd /logs
grep -i secure L0818* | more

Hope this helps! Nothing too insanely difficult, but I figured I'd at least
try and help out by providing the answer for those who didn't know. =)

Last I knew we were using 205.158.143.67:27013, so after this change I think
it would be safe to assume you can use 205.158.143.67:27011 instead. Now I
don't know whether it's TCP or UDP traffic, but if your firewall can log
basic information on the traffic, you can probably find out pretty quickly.

And eg Lynx people are SOL and will have to refresh manually anyway,

Importance: High

We're currently testing some beta security modules that catch all
versions of OGC and will report detected cheaters to the ban list.
We'll test the beta security modules over the weekend and release them
next week if there are no problems.

If you'd like to help test the beta security modules, the information
you need to know is listed below (the information below ONLY applies to
servers that want to run the beta security modules).

1) This beta test is only for Counter-Strike servers...not Day of
Defeat.

2) Anyone detected cheating during this beta test *may* get banned for
it, but only for the duration of the beta test. This means if you test
a cheat on your server while running the beta modules, you might find
yourself banned from your own server. At the end of the beta test,
we'll most likely clear the bans that were collected before releasing
the modules publicly.

3) We're no longer using port 27013 for the ban list. You will now see
traffic (in/out) on port 27011. This traffic is to/from the ban list
server. Make sure you have this port open in your firewall.

4) The password for the beta modules is "vactest", so make sure you
have...

-testmodule vactest

...in your command line and restart your server.

Let me know if you have any problems with these modules and we'll look
into them right away. Thanks for helping out.

-Eric

Re: [hlds_linux] Oscars Cheater Hlstats Modifed Pages

2002-08-18 Thread Oscar N

Well, this is how it works right now.

It uses dns-tommy's code to log all cheaters from both hlguard and vac
to a database.
Then everyone who is listed there will be shown at the webpage as a
banned player.
Also, every 20min a perl script is running on the cs servers to update
the banned.cfg, so the players that are listed on the webpage are
actually perm bans...

One thing that have not been implemented (intentional) is that when an
admin puts a perm ban on player using admin_ban it will not be
registered in the database. Which mean that when the server is restarted
all the perm bans that where put by admins are removed.
We do this because we don't have time to take care of the cs servers.
Instead we handle out adminmod rights for each server to clans.
If some admin would go wild and put perm bans on lots of players, then
we'll only have to restart it, not delete entries in the database.
And banning a player for 1 day is often enough to get them to understand
that they should not do certain things...
But what if we really want to put a perm ban on someone? Well, then you
can log in on the hlstats webpage as admin, and under the
"counter-strike" link there is a "banned players". There you can add or
delete entries from the database manually...

I cleaned up the ftp site some weeks ago and figured that the one who
wanted the files allready had downloaded them. If someone wants them,
let me know :)
Also, I would be happy If someone want to write it more userfriendly to
install, because then I don't have to do that ;)

And about the ping "thing" on the webpage. I figured that it could be
solved in 2 ways, either to code in VB something that would run on the
client. But since I don't know VB and don't have much time over right
now I choosed the other way...
The popup window is actually a .php file that have entries like this in
it for each server:

http://ida.bhood.nu/?ip=$REMOTE_ADDR";); ?>

Then on the cs servers the index.php file look like this:

if (!$ip) header ("Location:bhood/");
else {
  $ping = exec("ping -c 5 $ip");
  preg_match("/round-trip min\/avg\/max =
(\d+)\.(\d+)\/(\d+)\.(\d+)\/(\d+)\.(\d+) ms/",$ping,$matches);
  $min = "$matches[1].$matches[2]";
  $avg = "$matches[3].$matches[4]";
  $max = "$matches[5].$matches[6]";
}

One problem with this is when you are behind a firewall that does not
forward or reply on icmp(ping) packets. I'm going to print out some info
text about that, and instead of not returning any numbers at all in
min/max/avg it will show 0 or some other value...

Very nice! I see that it works well with TFC also!

Wanna share?  :)

Take a peek at these:

http://tf.bs-linux.com/stats_sorted.php

http://tf.bs-linux.com/hlq.php

First one only works if halfd is installed, other one works for none
halfd servers. Both scripts I wrote.

Sorry, i dont understand:
The player is only banned on one server, or on all the servers with the WON
non-authentication?
