RE: FW: [hlds_linux] P3 550 performing as a 10-user server

FF monitoring and having to redo all of my admins levels would be too
hard :-) as well as the admins having to learn how to use amx.

I still love AMX for it's low CPU usage.

But it increase the hl server performances too.
Pings are much betters, it's really better than any option of pingbooster i think.

Thanks m0gely,

I guess one of the things i'm most unsure of is the least bloated, least
cpu intensive module to provide user level commands for teamplay and so
on, in other words, clanmod, adminmod or amx?

Thanks,

You will get all sorts of advice that may conflict. What you need to do
is fire
up your server and see how it does. Start with the config you *want*,
and if
that works, great! If it lags bad, start scaling back on what you think
is
least important untill the performance is good.

RE: [hlds_linux] [BETA] HLDS 3111c1

2003-06-06 Thread Scott Pettit
I should be more specific :-)

I'm running 2x CS and 1x FLF on one box and 1x DoD and 1x CS on the
other box. Both boxes are P4 1.5, 512 DDR, 40 and 80GB ATA 133's. Kernel
2.4.2 with everything stripped out that isn't needed.

Plugins on each server:
Adminmod 2.50.52
Metamod 1.16
And one of the CS servers runs the WC3 plugin for AMX so that runs
Adminmod, AMX and Metamod.
VAC runs on all

I got these values from top after watching it for 5 minutes. On 3110c I
used to get around 20-30% CPU usage with a full server (16 players) but
the RAM usage was more intensive. I have tweaked my boxes a lot more and
removed unneeded services and so on since then however so that could be
a contributor.

With 3111c1 I would say that the game feels much smoother and I was
constantly pinging 30-35 from home (Under 3111c I was getting 60). I
could also attribute my lower CPU usage to the fact I don't run
pingboost on any of the servers but with this update it feels great
without.

sys_ticrate is 100
sv_maxupdaterate is 30
sv_minupdaterate is 0
sv_maxrate is
sv_minrate is 0

And the servers feed off 100Mbit fibre for each.

Scott, have yout some info on your config where you got those values?
On my fastest 3.1.1.0c server, 16 players on iceworld would get me
roughly 38%, however I am running plugins, VAC, HLG-11000, plus some
other plugins.

Have you also a comparison to 3.1.1.0c as well?

just becuase you exec another file in your cmd line, does not negate
that autoexec will execute. It will _always_ execute (hence the name :)
) after the cfg indicated in your cmd line. I think this is a misnomer
referring to it as an alternate autoexec.cfg, because you cannot assign
a cfg to be your autoexec.cfg like you can with server.cfg
(servercfgfile cvar).

occasional peaks of 60%. The new engine has lower CPU usage but not as
good as the old days. The good news is no core dumps since 3.1.1.1c1!!
We do notice timeouts at map changes though, seems like ever since
3.1.1.1b3 we as players timeout at map change from time to time. Hope
this helps there Alphred.

Command line from a su'ed shell script:

Once we are happy with the optimisations we will release a compatible hltv.
The existing hltv from 3.1.1.1c will works fine, you should use that (i.e
have a seperate install of 3.1.1.1c that you can use hltv from).

Just because you specify a map doesn't mean the autoexec.cfg is ignored. It's
just next in line for cvar's to be set. If you set the map in 10 different
spots, the last spot supercedes all the previous spots.

About 3 weeks ago, we went from a couple 20-man servers to a 32 player

points. Here's the list of what I have that's playable now:

as_oilrig.bsp cs_india.bspde_dust2.bsp

cs_estate.bsp de_dawn.bsp de_vertigo.bsp

I'm also currently working on several others when I get time. If
anyone has requests, I would be happy to add them to my list and work on
them. I have a feeling I'm going to end up modifying quite a few
anyway.

[hlds_linux] HZ=1000 and CPU-usage on FreeBSD 5.0

2003-06-06 Thread Bart
I've just installed FreeBSD 5.0 on a SMP-system,
and I'm running several CS-servers on it.

My question is:

Does the HZ=1000 (or another HZ-option above 100) increase or
decrease the CPU-usage. The kernel is now compiled with
the standard HZ. The problems isn't the latency (that's low enough),
but the question is: what happens according to the CPU-usage?

[hlds_linux] Re: [hlds] 32 players maps

2003-06-06 Thread Tony Di Schino

--- joe <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

As discussed several weeks ago, I indicated I would try to host some 32
spawn maps that had been modded by Joe. I have the following official
maps hosted:

as_oilrig
de_nuke
de_train
de_vegas
cs_assault
de_prodigy
cs_italy

http://www.7inchtaint.net/files/index.php?group=2

Will add more as I get them. Ideally I would like to compile all
official maps that have been released since 1.0 that do not have 32
spawns by default. According to Joe's page, the following official maps
have 32 spawns bey default:

cs_aztec
de_dust
de_dust2
de_inferno
de_cbble
de_vertigo

If you have other official maps that have been modded to 32 players
that you would like to contribute, please email me.

Thanks,

[hlds_linux] [Announce] Shared Ban System

2003-06-06 Thread Simon Garner
On Thursday, June 05, 2003 8:29 PM [GMT+1200=NZT],
Drew Broadley <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

> Simon Garner has built a banlist system, http://ban.cstrike.co.nz/

May as well release this I suppose. Keep in mind I built it over 2 years
ago, and it has only had minor changes since then. It's fairly simple
really, and while I have ideas for all sorts of improvements to it, I
have never had the time (or motivation) to implement them. I'm basically
releasing this as public domain, you can do whatever you want with it.
If somebody wants to turn it into a project and improve it, that'd be
cool.

What It Does

- Stores bans in a MySQL database, with a web front end for
maintaining the list
- Allows a group of game server providers to collaborate, sharing
bans between each other
- Makes it easy to keep bans sync'd across multiple servers
- Requires no special software on the game server, other than
ncftpget and a crontab (no adminmod or mysql etc)

As Drew said, you can take a look at it in action at
http://guest:[EMAIL PROTECTED] - this instance covers almost all
of the major HL game server operators in New Zealand, containing some
6000+ bans, and has been operating since Feb 2001.

What You Need

- Web server with PHP4
- FTP server on the same machine
- MySQL database
- wget and ncftpget tools
- access to a crontab

It's intended for Linux. Some modification may be needed under
Windows. The game servers can run on Windows if you find a third-party
FTP/scheduling tool, such as www.ftpvoyager.com

Where To Get It

Download from ftp://ftp.cstrike.co.nz/pub/sbs/sbs1.0.tar.gz (14KB)

How To Use It

Read the README file for installation instructions:
ftp://ftp.cstrike.co.nz/pub/sbs/README

When planning how you will deploy it among multiple admins, keep in
mind that any admin can edit or remove any other admin's bans, and any
bans they add will affect all participating servers. So you need to
trust everybody who will be a member not to screw up or abuse the
system; use some discretion in choosing who you include.

Wishlist

Here's some of the things I wish it did, but haven't had time to
implement ;)

- Better user management
- Better tracking of changes to bans (ban history)
- Better interface
- Better way of applying bans; large banfiles slow down map changes
on the servers

Enjoy.

-Simon

Any plugin that responds to anything can be flooded out somewhat may it be

Can you try it without screen, just run it directly from a console window.

(yup, its that old) and I see about 35-45 cpu usage for hlds when
running DoD with 10 players on the server.

I launch it in a screen yes.
Does this change so much the cpu usage ?

OK, I just tested this new patch, here is the test:

The computer: DUAL AMD 1900 MP, 512 ram, on linux debian.
Two CS servers (30 ppl on each servers, full) on this box.
Same map on both servers: de_dust2
Same addons/plugins on both servers: AMX v0.9.3 , wwcl 2.51 Same
 server.cfg config No pingbooster options.
 Server 1: on hlds 3.1.1.0
Server 2: on hlds 3.1.1.1c1 with the hlds_amd binary
The CPU usage depend of the number of "alive" players.
That's why I'll give the cs CPU usage when exactly 30, 20 and 10
players are alive. CPU usage is checked with the "top" utility.
Usual average ping of the 30 players: 60-70ms (with hlds 3.1.1.0)

The results (cpu usage in of ONE cpu):

 Server 1 (hlds 3.1.1.0):
 30 players alive: 70
 20 players alive: 60
 10 players alive: 50

 Server 2 (hlds 3.1.1.1c1):
 30 players alive: 98 (average pings: 200-250ms)
 20 players alive: 90 (average pings: 100-150ms)
 10 players alive: 80

 /me downgrade the server 2 to 3.1.1.0 :(

The server we have been profiling has provided some useful data and
we have performed some optimisations. We now need further input on
how these changes improve performance under different mods and
 different linux distributions.

If you wish to help then grab the patch from:
 ftp://hlserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/
