RE: [hlds_linux] Server not showing up in master list

2003-09-13 Thread Marius

It appears the default value for sv_region is 255?

Almost, sv_region 255 is the Moon.

You'll get this automagically set as an indicator of the current steam
network status has been blown off the planet.

I'm currently investigating setting up operations on Mars (sv_region 666).

 Server-Side

 1.)How to banid with steam?
2.)DOD needs better fix than using 1.0 .so file.
3.)Seen several crashes just running vanilla hl/cs.

for (1) i'm using AMX (0.9.6F) which works fine (here anyway YMMV). For
banning by rcon I think the easiest way is to use the user id, rcon
banid time #userid (and writeid of course) this worked ok for
banning VALVEID's (DoD retail users) pre-steam.

DoD definately needs some work, a FATAL error does rather imply that the
testing was, shall we say, inadequate? It would also be nice if cfg
files were excluded from updates, the DoD update nuked autoexec.cfg and
ALL of the mapname.cfg files, (just as well I updated a copy of the
HL/DoD tree).

Not had any crashes yet (but then havnt had too many players to test
with yet either).

[hlds_linux] steam account creation

2003-09-13 Thread john
Is it just me, or is the account creation screwed?

[EMAIL PROTECTED] hlds_l]$ ./steam -create [email] [pass] no no
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Creating Account
Connection Reset

I have tried several times removing the clientblob (rm -rf
~/.steam/ClientRegistry.blob)
and also tried running steam on a base install from another default setup
I did yesterday (with which I was able to create an account), and as an
upgrade to an existing server, and still the same.

Note its slightly different to the error in the faq and that faq
'fix' doesnt work.

I'm guessing the servers are just overloaded. Kinda annoying coz means all
my servers gonna have to stay 1.5.

Does anyone know if you just copying the clientblob from another server
would wing it?

[hlds_linux] hlds on RH7.3 behind a netgear RP114 firewall router

2003-09-13 Thread Dan Alderman
Hi,

I'm in need of some help. I have a Red Hat 7.3 PIII 700 with 768MB of
RAM just waiting to serve up some DOD action, but I'm having some
trouble getting the server to connect.

The server is connected to a Netgear RP114 router which has a built in

When I run the server with the following command I get this.

./hlds_run -game dod +maxplayers 20 -map dod_anzio

So obviously something is working, but the server just doesn't seem to
connect. Adding +ip 192.168.0.3 doesn't seem to make any difference.
Can anyone help me debug this?

Thanks,

Dan.

[hlds_linux] Steam given up and using a real download

2003-09-13 Thread Steven Hartland
Well after nearly two days to dismal failure Im now downloading
steam cached install from fileshack which is maxing out my line
at 250Kb/s instead of the 400b/s / constant disconnects that
is steam.

Conclusion for those of you that havent managed to get it via
steam give up and download it like a normal demo / game.
Both Fileshack and Fileplanet have it and Im sure more will
follow. Now just need them to release cached versions of all
the other mods so I can finally test our servers.

I just hope valve learn from this and either make considerable
improvements or ditch steam for hl2. I'd say you need 1000
times the bandwidth if not more than you currently have. A
client which doesnt constantly disconnect, continues where it
did aka like a web browser and gives decent feedback total
size transfer rate ( without the sill monitor window ) and
time remaining so we know if we can go on holiday while
it download :P

Steve / K
P.S. Downloaded 20% while typing this :)

I beleive it takes it out of the Registry.

Then it sends you an E-mail telling you your Half-Life CD Key is invalid :P
(At least, that's what it did to me)

Re: [hlds_linux] Failed to get valid content ticket

2003-09-13 Thread Miguel Filho
I think (and I hope) that this problem is caused for the high number
of people connnecting to update. Take a look at fileplanet.com, the
lines for the new installer that have cs 1.6 and hl 1.1.2 are completly
full.

Or is this just another reason why it is a stupid idea not to release
'network install' versions of server software. I don't want to go
through this on all the servers I'm running.

If you have the files already, don't bother running steam. Start your
server with -autoupdate and it will work when the network works. If
however you don't even have the files, let me know.

2003-09-13 Thread Destroyer
Yep on my dual p3 866 server I was able to run a 20 player server under
1.1.1.1d but on the steam release I had to drop to 16 player or the cpu got
pegged. I hope this is one of the things that get fixed sooner rather than
later (I can wait until after the server crashes ar fixed).

I would like also say that cpu usage have gone way up again.

  0% 100% Scale
  95% [ ] Total CPU usage
  99% [* ] CPU0 usage
  90% [*** ] CPU1 usage

On 1.5 this machine run at 60-80% usage.

Re: [hlds_linux] Failed to get valid content ticket

2003-09-13 Thread Alastair Grant
I have installed 3.1.1.1, shoved on Steam and re-created my account. So
the files need to be updated.
I type: ./steam -update cstrike /path/ user pass Y
With the correct details obviously.
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
No installation record found at /usr/local/games/steam_1/
Checking/Installing 'Linux Server Engine' version 0
Failed to get valid content ticket
For variety I got:
User's ticket has expired
It certainly seems like it's because Steam is overloaded, which is even
more of a joke.

It's happening to a lot of us.

however, there's another reason why a shell script is more useful than a real

You've managed to get 16 people on your server under steam?

There are plenty of players with it installed. There are just so many
players that why you hear about to many issues. I had my 20 player full
